Deadwood alum John Hawkes has joined the cast of the sixth and final season of LOST, and producers of Fox’s 24 are planning for the possible end of the series. Details after the jump.

John Hawkes has been cast as a new reoccurring character named Lennon on Lost. The character is described in the casting breakdown as “Scruffy, edgy, charismatic, and slightly stir-crazy, Lennon can be deferential when it’s called for. He’s the spokesperson/translator for the president of a foreign corporation. He’s a wily negotiator, and far more powerful than his lowly position would seem to indicate.” One would assume that Lennon works for Widmore or the Hanso Foundation, although that isn’t clearly stated. Any thoughts?  Hawkes played entrepreneur and politician Sol Star on Deadwood, Dustin Powers on Eastbound & Down, and his feature credits include Me and You and Everyone We Know, Miami Vice, American Gangster and Miracle at St. Anna.

Will Day 8 be Jack Bauer’s last? 24 Producers are taking precautions in case the show is canceled by studio execs. The answer? Writing a number of alternative endings for the series. Producer Evan Katz says, “We’re flexible. We have a scenario that would work well if the show ends. But we also have scenarios where it could go on.” The new season is currently in production and will begin airing on television beginning in January.

    Hawkes is a great actor

I loved him in Me and You and Everyone We Know

I have to find a shirt with that on it.
  • Just curious, do you have a source for that LOST picture?
cant say ive seen that promo image/poster yet, is it fan made?
    wouldnt mind a larger copy.

Otherwise, great news on casting. Should be an interesting role.

It really should be their last go-about on 24. They made a great recovery from the shitasterpiece of Day 6 in Season 7 and a slightly less ambiguous finale would have been all they needed to call it a wrap and move on. It would suck to see them get canceled though, as they're one of the only solid hits Fox has ever had.
  • Perhaps Lennon works for Sun's dad, Mr. Paik??
  • As much as I like Jack Bauer, the show needs to go on without him. It's too unrealistic that the same man would save the USA for 7 days. A better idea might be to have each season to focus on a new character around the world dealing with their own unique scenarios. This would allow the writers of 24 for more flexibility and creativity.

Interesting John Hawkes was already in season one of 24

Bet he's a member of the black rock. If you read the casting descriptions for Matthew Abbadon and Caesar and some other characters they were similar to this to throw fans off.
  • i dont know who John awkes is, but the commentersseem to like him so I probably will too. And sad news about 24, although I am curious about how it would end.

And does anyone know when there will be a new "Page 2" because its been a while and i love those articles
  • That LOST graphic screams Grey's Anatomy. I hope it's fan-made. And on the casting--scruffy and stir-crazy--let's just keep Faraday alive next time we need a character like that, eh writers??
  • Huge fan of 24, but like everyone else, 6 was a disaster with a remarkable recovery in season 7. I think they need to have an endgame soon, and end the series. If Seinfeld taught us anything, it's to go out on a high note, leaving everyone wanting more.

24 has at least 2 more seasons with Bauer, thanks to the sucess of season 7. As for the show itself, could it continue without Jack?
  • adrian_s
I betcha it could, but they would have to change format, tone it down or something to fit any of the possible lead characters. The clocktick is Jack's life in a nutshell. No other characters (left) have that kind of urgency about their daily lives. And assuming they DO do that, there would be a backlash.

I'm not particularly heavy on Jack anymore. I thought Day 5 was his best arc yet. I can't really include Day 7 because everything after 6 just seemed to completely ruin his life. (And I was one of the few people who gave the season a chance, even after the Bauer family reunion plot.)

They did some great things with new characters this year and it would be a shame to see they didn't try.

PS: Is it just me or is 24 following that old Star Trek rule, flipped on its head, about every other season being good? Makes sense too, they've got a lot of Trek actors and writers now.
