Movie Trailer News: Avatar and Up in the Air

avatarupintheair

Want to know when the trailers for James Cameron’s Avatar and Jason Reitman’s Up in the Air will be online? Details after the jump.

We all know that the first teaser trailer for James Cameron’s Avatar will hit on August 21st, Avatar Day, attached to the new releases of the week. But did you know that the trailer will premiere online the day before? On Friday, Apple began running a countdown on their movie trailer page, advertising the first teaser trailer for the new 3D sci-fi movie. The countdown ends on Thursday at 7:00am, which is when we can expected the trailer to be online. Check back then.

Jason Reitman’s new film, a big screen adaptation of Walter Kim’s novel Up in the Air, will premiere at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival. But a few days before that happens, the first trailer will premiere online. The Up in the Air teaser trailer will premiere on Apple on September 10th, and will be attached to The Informant and Love Happens beginning on September 18th.

The film stars George Clooney as Ryan Bingham, a corporate downsizing expert whose cherished life on the road is threatened just as he is on the cusp of reaching ten million frequent flyer miles and just after he’s met the frequent-traveler woman of his dreams. We’ll be in Toronto for the premiere, so keep checking back for our coverage. And check back on September 10th for the trailer premiere.

  • Frankly the normal trailer is going to be better advertising for Avatar than the IMAX screenings. Everyone at the IMAX screenings will be seeing Avatar any way. Why not just wait for the film?

I'm drooling all over my keyboard...hope my laptop doesn't short out before 7am on Thursday, after which point I will be humping it endlessly throughout the day.
  • I really wish they'd announce the theaters the screenings are gonna be available in

Is it wrong that I'm not really that interested in this movie?

Hopefully the trailer will change my mind.
  • angtu583
    yes
  • No, your low level of interest means you may enjoy the movie. Most people have impossible to reach hopes for this film. They will be crushed when it doesn't single handily change cinema forever.
  • freemachine
With the exception of Piranha II, Cameron delivered every single time. Even though I wasn't a huge fan of Titanic, the experience still blew me away. I'm going to bet that Avatar does change cinema, maybe not forever, but for a significant period of time. Long enough for people to catch up.
  • I'm not saying it isn't going to be good. I'm just saying to predict any film is going to be a game changer before any widespread public displays. Maybe after Avatar day we can reconvene.
  • freemachine
    It's a date.

I loved the dark knight but the hype ruined the first showing for me. I hope to god it doesn't happen with avatar and that after this it all quitens down a bit.
  • okayflint
anyone know what time specifically the tickets will be available today for the 21st of august?
  • Wiimo
They'll be available starting at 12PM PST and 3PM EST. If you go to the movie site there's already a button to get tickets, though it doesn't work yet.
  • okayflint
thank you! kind of unfortunate since i work at night and i'll be sleeping at that time. hopefully i wake up from my alarm
  • luke_test
I'm guessing that is 7am Pacific Time?

The countdown changes depending on your computers time zone. I'm in the UK and it is counting down to Thursday 7am in UK time.

I doubt that will actually be the case. I'm guessing I will have to wait another 8 hours after my clock has finished counting down.
  • Once the "Avatar" trailer debuts, THEN maybe it will justify all the hype surrounding it... or finally kill it.
  • Nope... Regardless of how the trailer turns out, and regardless of whether or not the hype is justified... it'll only create more hype because it will be the first real stuff other than 1 or 2 official photos released... and thus it'll be what everyone is talking about... especially since 1. It's Cameron's return to directing a fiction feature since Titanic, the highest grossing movie ever, and 2. Rather than working within the existing technology, Cameron researched and developed the technology needed to realize his vision, and 3. Cameron is a perfectionist, so if the footage weren't up to all the hype, he'd probably push the release date back or prevent the public from seeing it until he feel's it is ready... (hence part of the reason why there hasn't been a trailer yet).

So either way, the hype will continue.

A sexually frustrated, wheelchair bound miner is given the opportunity of a life time to walk, love, feel and live again by inhabiting the body of an alien. Watch as he uses this new found freedom to get down and dirty with a 12 foot tall, blue skinned alien with a tail. From the director of one of the 20th Century's greatest love stories, Titanic, comes something for those who think that romance should sometimes take a walk on the wild side.

Avatar! Blue movies will never be the same again.

I hope my face is in the (Up In the Air)trailer, but I'll settle for the back of my head!!
  • Kyle C.
Well it's about damn time we got an Avatar trailer! This whole Avatar day thing is stupid though. If your going to go to a theatre this Friday, go see Inglourious Basterds, not some stupid 15 min. promo.
  • juan0162
cant wait for the avatar trailer to come out but hopefully they'll show more footage cause it is a (teaser) trailer and they've teased us enough with the pictures
