VOTD: Cut/Slide Montage

zz4b274837

James McTeigue’s upcoming film Ninja Assassin has a lot of awesome bloody Cut/Slide action. And by “Cut/Slide,” I’m referring to a moment in an action scene when a blade (or wire) slices through a person (or many people) at a ninja-like speed, leaving pieces of body parts to slowly slide apart from each other, usually while the person is still visibly conscious. /Film reader Jon C sent over a video today which is a tribute montage to some of the best Cut/Slide moments in cinema history. But be warned, there is a lot of blood, and this clip is probably NSFW (Not Safe For Work).

Ugh. I'm already disturbed by the "Fourth Kind" trailer. haha
  • hoopla
The equilibrium one definitely has the best slicing sound effect ever.

This has to be the best VOTD ever! Despite being a gimmick, I'm surprised how original and creative each of those cut/slices were. Seems like there's an endless amount of ways to dice a human...
  • Epic.

I didn't know a lot of them, but I am certain that the second is the opening scene of Cube.

I thought that the most imaginative and brutal was the girl getting a shovel-to-the-mouth vivisection.
  • SG
The second is most definitely the opener of Cube, one of my favorites.
  • matwithahat

It's the first Resident Evil, and the Hellraiser one is Hellworld. Don't ask me which number of the series it is, though, it's embarrassing enough that I know that much.

The horse scene in "The Cell" would fit nicely:

Awesome video. I've seen all those movies and Ghost Ship was one of the best with that opening scene for sure.
  • cellchild
yeah, that is why cinema was invented.
  • Very nice :)

Interesting how a good cut & slice scene doth not a good horror make. Point in case: Hellworld, Ghost Ship and 13 Ghosts. In fact, that was Ghost Ship's ONLY good scene.

FYI, Hellworld was the last (eight) Hellraiser and by far the worst. In fact, it was so bad I never got far enough to even see that scene. Seriously, if you thought Bloodlines was bad, it's just downhill from there.

Also agree - Ichi The Killer should be on that list. But Slither is definitely a must-get for me now. I'm curious what it's like...

A left of field scene missing (though perhaps not accurate for this) is the horse dissection scene from The Cell...
