The Fourth Kind Movie Trailer

The Fourth Kind

Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for The Fourth Kind. No, this is not a sequel to Steven Spielberg’s Close Encounters of a Third Kind (lets hope that never happens) This sci-fi thriller is directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi and starring Milla Jovovich as a psychologist who “unwittingly discovered some of the most disturbing evidence of alien abduction ever documented.” The most interesting thing about this film is that it is a “fact-based thriller” based on an ongoing unsolved mystery in Alaska, where one town has seen a large number of unexplained disappearances during the past 40 years. The trailer even makes mention of this, using Jovovich as herself to explain that the film is a “reenactment.”

“A UFO sighting is referred to as an encounter of the first kind…When evidence is collected, it is known as an encounter of the second kind…Contact with extraterrestrials, is an encounter of the third kind… The next level, abduction, is the fourth kind. This encounter has been the most difficult to document… Until now.”

Check out the trailer after the jump, and leave your thoughts in the comments below.

Thanks to Sci-Fi for premiering the trailer.

In 1972, a scale of measurement was established for alien encounters. When a UFO is sighted, it is called an encounter of the first kind. When evidence is collected, it is known as an encounter of the second kind. When contact is made with extraterrestrials, it is the third kind. The next level, abduction, is the fourth kind. This encounter has been the most difficult to document…until now.Structured unlike any film before it, The Fourth Kind is a provocative thriller set in modern-day Nome, Alaska, where—mysteriously since the 1960s—a disproportionate number of the population has been reported missing every year. Despite multiple FBI investigations of the region, the truth has never been discovered. Here in this remote region, psychologist Dr. Abigail Tyler (Milla Jovovich) began videotaping sessions with traumatized patients and unwittingly discovered some of the most disturbing evidence of alien abduction ever documented. Using never-before-seen archival footage that is integrated into the film, The Fourth Kind exposes the terrified revelations of multiple witnesses. Their accounts of being visited by alien figures all share disturbingly identical details, the validity of which is investigated throughout the film.

The Fourth Kind hits theaters on November 6th 2009.

  • this looks a lot creepier than expected.

i got a copy of the script but it was late at nite and i didnt want to get spooked before bed so i let my roomate read it and she has not slept in 2 days. according to the script there is no visual on the alien in the film just the owl which is creepy because if u cant see the monster he is scarier. Also
the script had some newspaper clippings attached. I still dont know if it is actually based on true events but regardless this movie will be great!

Looks kinda like The Mothman Prophecies 2. The scenes added with actual footage was pretty intense. I'm definitely intrigued.
  • Chad
I'm pretty excited for this film. Hopefully it lives up to its trailer. Reminds me of "The Mothman Prophecies" or "The Exorcism of Emily Rose".
  • get a clue buddy
both those movies sucked... and im sure this one will too
  • Creepsville. This looks like what The Mothman Prophecies should have been. It also reminds me of Communion. Definite sleeper potential. I wonder if Milla Jovovich will guest on Coast 2 Coast AM...
  • Maracle2
seeing the real footage next to the film sorta took the edge off what the actors were doing. they wernt nearly as creepy as the real stuff
  • claudehenrysmoot
What's the real town that this is based on? My google skills are lacking today...
  • sylerisback
i think this is actually based off of nome or maybe some other alaska city since i searched and found some missing people news coverage in the nome nugget and high sleep disorder reports in that city

    how creepy!!
  • Peter Knudson
    Nome
  • Holy shit. I am horrified. The side by side footage is legit.
  • chriscage
I don't know about legit - but found Nome mentioned in this archeology article - has anyone found other stuff on Google? http://www.uvaarchaeology.info/news/articles/6-...
  • lewis2010
This is a con. Viral marketing taken to the Coen bros. level.
  • Hastings
I think you're right. I've tried looking up Abigail Tyler, Nome, Alaska disappearances, that Tommy guys full name, all sorts of stuff. Nothing comes up. Pretty sure they're saying this is all based on actual evidence (pssst, The Blair Witch Project), just for marketing. It's not actually real.
  • Hastings
oh and also, in the beginning that supposedly REAL "Dr. Abigail Tyler" is having an interview with director Olatunde Osunsanmi back in 2002? right...

all skepticism aside, I'm going to check it out. looks creepy.
  • Name
Yeah, plus she gives her name and everything but blurs her face?
  • allthingskeptic
haha i did the same but i found stuff. there's a ton of coverage in alaska abductions and videos on youtube. i found dr. tyler's profile too
  • davidtheartist
It looks like the viral video fad but thats just because the footage is of real people. its pretty widely known that UFO abduction cases all have same accounts and details in them. I have no doubt its a legit as it says it is.
  • Ed
The director said this is fictional.

It's the studios that are marketing it as "based on true facts".
  • Sharon
I am surprised that they used the correct names. I am not surprised that nothing much has been said about it all as these people going to therapy, is not the sort of thing that gets written up in the local news. Thanks for the info...but I already believe there is a lot of truth to it..I have since I was a little girl, terrified of an owl that might appear at the window!!
  • norman619
Hmmm... since they tiled her face it implies she wants her anonymity. That's assuming it is a real person. Why would they use her real name if this were the case? But yes it could be marketing but hardly viral.
  • StrugglingWriter
If this is just viral marketing, and I suspect as much, I believe this crosses the line. It deliberately misleads the audience, and while I can respect that they want the movie to appear scarier by making it seem like it's based on facts, it shouldn't be legal to promote a fictional movie this way. Milla Jovovich says (as herself, supposedly not in character) that every scene in the film is based on actual archival footage with REAL evidence to back everything up. Really?

You can't sell fake leather by calling it REAL just because you know people will pay more for the real stuff.
  • It's not their fault people are idiots.
  • spikeystarfish
yeah viral or not this looks like a great film. and who says alien abductions aren't real?
  • corneliusflux
    unicorns
  • matt
    ignorance
  • photophile
The lack of real evidence speak pretty loudly against it.
  • Sharon
REAL EVIDENCE? What, do you think they should leave a calling card and next appointment date?!

There is enough 'evidence' out there in the form of implants, lie detector tests (being passed with flying colours), police/airforce and ASTRONAUTS witness statements, corresponding statements from those under hypnosis, etc...
  • photophile
Lie detectors aren't even admissible in a court of law. Much less as evidence of alien abductions.

"police/airforce and ASTRONAUTS" - Flashing lights seen in the distance is not evidence.
  • sharon
If you want to know what the astronauts REALLY saw up there Check>>>>'The Free World (Part 8) To be continued.' on youtube..start at about 5.00.
I have listened to the actual transmission and you will have to search for that if you want to listen.

I have also been 'taken' so I am absolutely biased on this one!!!!! Do you even know what it feels like to listen to you people just shrug it off like it means nothing!!?? Now you show me your proof that it doesn't happen! WAITING!!!!
  • photophile
I can't show you proof that it doesn't happen (can't prove a negative). It's your job to show that it did happen.

    Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
  • sharon
What do you mean..'it's my JOB?!' I owe you no explanation at all...and you can get proof of the negative...just prove that they are lying. Can't do it can you? There's more proof that they aren't.
Very soon you will eat your words.

Just wasting Time here..you have no idea.

  • magellan1501
I was actually creeped out by this trailer. What?
  • Chicken Fingers
I also think this is a CON! I cant see this being real, if it is that would be great. Everyone is on the viral marketing wagon right now. Im going to see District 9 tonight wooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!
  • socklogic
Yeah, this is some Blairwitch Project, Texas Chainsaw Massacre bullshit. I'm amazed this sort of marketing still works.
  • DeadlyPorpoise
Yup, viral marketing it is, but a good solid trailer. Anal probe away!
  • It's all utter nonsense, of course. I sincerely doubt any of that supposed 'archive footage' in the trailer is anything of the sort. That said, looks sufficiently creepy so I'm in.
  • Sharon
well, this is where the people are at now...you know...the ones that have been fighting to get the Truth to you people...

'Washington, DC On Monday at the National Press Club Dr. Edgar Mitchell called upon the new Democratic administration under President Barack Obama to end a six-decade long truth embargo imposed by elements within the United States government and confirm to the American people the reality of an extraterrestrial, non-human intelligence engaging the human race. '

    'It's all utter nonsense,'

These are just some of the one's that died after trying...

William Cooper..killed by the authorities (spoke of gov. involement with 'visitors')

James Forrestal..'fell' from 16th floor?! (first Secretary of Defense in 1947..alledged member of majestic 12)

    Phil Schnieder..'suicide'?!(underground ufo bases.)

John Mack...'car accident!'..Psychiatrist (spoke out that Ufo aductions ARE REAL).
  • dagrader
    Genuinely creeped out. B-.
  • Blair Witch Project meets Communion.

Communion always freaked me out when I was younger.
  • Sharon
Might just be a reason for that!!
  • john
dude i googled and found related sites of dr tyler's history, i think she's real and there's ton of abductions in alaska, i just saw in the news the other day that there are all these videos on ufo sightings

dr. tyler's probably not as pretty as milla, but this is pretty creepy

    can't wait to see it!
  • Sharon

my grandma lives in nome and she used to tell me about people disappearing and stuff.. it always creeped me out as a kid.

can't believe they made a film out of this this looks wayyy better than blair witch
  • CyT
DAMN! That looks awesome. Way creepier than I had anticipated and those archive footage things were wikid. Especially if they are real. I so wish I was a paranormal investigator :)

Especially if I got to hang around with Milla all day!
  • woah, i wasn't really thinking this was going to be that great, but after that it looks awesome!

    pretty stoked on it!
  • Looked up "Nome, Alaska missing people" in the google and found this gem about real missing people...
