Robert Rodriguez

Why is it that every time The Weinstein Co becomes involved in a promising project, they somehow fuck it up? Robert RodriguezNerverackers has been bumped off the Dimension Films calendar. Earlier this year, the genre arm surprised everyone with putting the mystery project in an April 16th 2010 release date. We’ve since learned a lot more about the sci-fi project. Enough to make us excited and earn our attention (those details repeated below).

What does the film’s removal from the release schedule mean? We’re not sure. Rodriguez was clearly not prepped to make the original announced release date, and seems too busy to jump into production any time soon. And Dimension Films has a history of making premature announcements.

Rodriguez is gearing up to co-direct a low budget feature length film based on the Grindhouse trailer Machete and is hands deep in producing the prequel/reboot of Predators at his Austin-based Troublemaker Studios. Rodriguez has also been developing a live-action adaptation of The Jetsons, which the filmmaker was hoping to go into production on following Neverackers.

So what is Neverackers about? The futuristic thriller set in 2085, and follows Joe Tezca, a man who is part of an elite unit dispatched to “quell a crime wave in a theoretically perfect future society.” In the process, he discovers that “Nerverackers” are on a rampage for control of the city. Tezca consequently sets forth on a mission to reveal the cover up by the ruling class and stop the “Nerverackers” before time runs out.

    My sentiments regarding Robert Rodriquez's announced or in development projects---"I'll believe it when I see it." He talks about all these cool projects and then ends up doing some kiddy film instead. Even IMDb can't manage to keep things straight; they list Sin City 3 as 'in production', and then list Sin City 2 as 'in development'. That makes no sense. Not to mention that Miramax's option to produce the Sin City sequels has expired and he'll have to take the films somewhere else. I guess his flakiness is not all that bad considering I sincerely hope that Predators never gets off the ground.

    i blame it on machete, but i can't wait for that movie so whatever.

    This guy constantly acts like he's making all these movies, when really he's spitting out info on stuff where there is no foundation then it all gets fucked up and he's getting all this press. Every Rodriguez story is a big claim, then a big fuck up. De Niro in Machete? When do we get the story that he's dropped out?

    Seriously, I love this guy when he directs but god he's the worst director in the world when it comes to big talk and it's more irritating even than his shitty kids movies, which ironically are the only things he ever puts out after talking big game.

    speaking of which, whatever happened to Red Sonja?

    Again, another Rodriguezism.

    "Rodriguezism" :-)
  • I don't believe a word anymore. Get your sh*t into gear, Robert.

    Am I the only person who thinks Rodriguez is a really bad filmmaker? I loved his book "Rebel Without A Crew", but I think his self taught approach really has its limits. Sure, some of his films have some cool moments, but cool moments do not a great film make. He can't touch the originality of his buddy Tarantino and, seriously, compare a Rodriguez film to any film by a genuine great filmmaker (Michael Mann, Scorsese, Kubrick, etc) and they're all kinda juvenile. Anyone else think he's just a lucky one man hype machine? (Although I have serious respect for his indie status with his own studio)

    I agree 100%. He's an absolutely overrated filmmaker who's in luck to know Quentin.

    Man, this is awful news. Oh wait, I mean who cares. Seriously, does anyone really care about this guy's shitty, shitty movies? He writes scripts in a few hours whilst taking a dump and shoots them over a weekend with a couple of friends. And guess what? They're always shoddily done and terrible. The only reason anyone has heard of this guy is because of his friendship with a better and more well known writer/director. He's like a more prolific Eli Roth.
  • I've seen 'nerverackers' spelled 'neverackers' so much I'm beginning to believe a neveracker is a real thing.

    Can't be too surprised - the Weinstein Company's knocking at death's door - most of their 2008 slate is chilling on the shelf Orion Pictures style.

    Orion pictures style, hilarious. Good one.

    His best work is Desparado....everything else he has put out has not been nearly as good.
