Where The Wild Things Are Movie Trailer #2

wild_things_tableau

The new movie trailer for Where the Wild Things Are Peter aluded to a few days back is now online, embedded after the break. After one of the more anxiety-racking development and production periods of recent geek cinema, Where the Wild Things Are will finally be with us in October. Can it possibly live up to our collective expectations? I’ve found out today (simply by asking) that this is the film more /Film readers are looking forward to than any other. I’ll be quoting some of your reasons why after the trailer below.

Make sure you are sitting comfortably. You’ll most likely want to watch this a few times over.

Watch the trailer in high definition on Yahoo. The rumored Flaming Lips song does not appear, but I can certainly tell you Arcade Fire’s Wake Up gets another airing. That song will probably now be forever associated with Wild Things in the way Mr. Blue Sky is eternally Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

Your given reasons for anticipating this picture so… er… wildly included the following:

…because everything that I have seen and heard of this movie looks and sounds absolutely top notch. The visuals I saw in the trailer look great and the Wild Things’ costumes are spot on to the book as well as realistic feeling in a fantastic sort of way.

…because that was one of my favorite books as a kid.

The book brings back great memories from my childhood. The trailer looks absolutely incredible and the nostalgia almost brings me to tears. The film comes out on my birthday weekend and I plan to see it with a some friends in order to reminisce on the book that occupied my childhood. Hopefully, this film will bring back the greatness that Jonze once captured with Being John Malkovich and Adaptation.

…I’ve got such good memories of the book - I’m hoping the movie brings it full circle to my adult life.

Spike Jonze is one of the most talented and inventive directors working today, and it is evident that he has created a fantastic movie.

As soon as I saw the trailer and heard Arcade Fire’s Wake Up I knew this was one of those movies that would have me gawking at the screen with my mouth open (looking like an idiot) but completely engrossed. I cant even count the amount of times I’ve watched that trailer and gotten psyched each time I saw it. It looks like it can deliver a complete movie experience that will leave me more than willing to spend another $10 to see it again.

I mean, it’s Spike Jonze and have you seen the trailer? Tony Soprano literally becomes a monster plus there is Arcade Fire in the background. I hate reading so I haven’t technically read the source material, but I love the audiobook. Hopefully they can do it justice.

And that’s just a small sampling. I think we’re in agreement here. Let the wild rumpus start!

Beautiful. Glad we could finally hear some of the voices.
  • Rick Gershman
Insanely awesome trailer. Cannot wait for this. WTWTA and District 9 might just save this craptacular summer after all.

And also, respectfully, Brendon: ALLUDED. Two Ls. Alluded. Make a note.
  • It's so amazing
  • Anrkist
Yes. I can't wait for the red band trailer.
  • Nick
Did someone really say they hate reading? Where The Wild Things are is like literally 17 sentences...and you have to read to read this site...what the fuck, man?
  • justinGentry
The last commenter: "I hate reading..." Uhh, yeah.

Thanks to this movie, everyone at the 7:00 showing of Harry Potter in Norwalk Connecticut knows what I sound like when I'm trying to muffle my sobbing by burying my face in my shirt. Seriously. Embaressing as hell, but I couldn't help it, that trailer was just designed to bring me back to a simpler time.
  • smither
WOW...JUST WOWWW. that was freaking superb!!
  • johnsconi
Amazing, for sure. But what does the Wild Thing at 2:12 say before "...love you so"? I can't make it out.
  • tenno
I think "I'll eat you up I love you so"
  • johnsconi
I think you got it! And it sounds like Lauren Ambrose! Who, in the beginning of the trailer, assumed that Max ATE HIS FAMILY! Many thanks, tenno!
  • That's correct.
  • Octoberist
somebody must of 'edited' out their comment, because I don't see that post anymore. EIther way, it's a funny comment because the book is ONLY 20 PAGES LONG, with 9 worded sentences.
  • Ezra
I was really excited until I saw this trailer. CG on the monsters' faces? I thought this was gonna be all puppetry, a la The Dark Crystal or Neverending Story. That stuff looks a thousand times more believable than these stupid CG facial movements. You'd expect something a little less lazy from Spike F-ing Jonze.
  • They did try and do the animatronics with faces at first, but they had issues so they had to go with CG faces. At least you didn't get everything CG
  • tenno
I disagree, but considering all the studio interference and meddling he was put through as well, its amazing it got completed let alone look this great.
  • Superimposing CGI animated faces onto physical suits is no easy task and is a large part of the reason it's taken so long to complete - so "lazy" is hardly a word I'd use to describe it.
  • wah wah wah moan moan
  • Believe_Me
Why can't you people just take it for what it is? without trying to poke holes in inconsequential aspects in a sorry attempt to make yourself look cool/smart

The trailer looks amazing, and the movie is, no doubt, going to be awe-inspiring, and make kids of all ages believe in something so magical and so great, that they won't have to nit-pick at stupid details just to make themselves feel important...
  • tenno
Wow. So impressed with how this feels already. Hope it does well.
  • Rabstown
I am seriously tearing up right now. That was so beautiful. One of my favorite books as a kid, finally a real movie. I'm so excited.
  • lipslikeasukal
Yes, the trailer looks great. My only issue is will this movie have half the effect it's having on folks who've read the book in their childhood?

Can I build a time machine and read this book when I had the chance as a child?
  • Craigasorusrex
Really loved this trailer. It gives us a more extensive look at the wild things world and a bit of their personalities.

Looks like real great stuff. The sight gag at the end with the dog is pretty funny.

I really can't wait until this is released.
  • wonderful...
  • Phontsolo
Ah man... I'm loving this shit!! I'm getting that "Never Ending Story" kinda feeling in my stomach. And I'm 34!! haha

I really hope this movie is good and that people see it. If this movie is anything like Spike Jonze music videos or his movies we're probably going to get something very special and unique.

I can't wait for this one!
  • Phontsolo
By the way. Arcade Fire's music fits perfectly in these trailers.
  • Garber
Wow, what is it with "children's" movies this year? Up, Coraline, Harry Potter -- and now, hopefully, this movie and Mr. Fox -- kids movies are turning into cinematic art with a whole lot of "growing up/death/death of childhood" type themes going on. It's a damn near golden age of family films in this regard once you wade through the G-Forces and Ice Ages.

Sadly, the ungrateful little bastards will probably be lining up to see New Moon instead.
  • darkloardpiggy
GRRRR!!! Well, to witness greatness, one must tread through the waters of......That.....
Hopefully those same kids will come to their senses and realize what a waste of time New Moon will be and decide to spend their money towards a greater cause: True cinimatic Greatness.

Ohh, how i long to see that day come aboard.....but alas.... ( i somewhat blame 'The Dark Knight' *stay with me folks* if it werent for that movie making so much bank, then HP6 wouldnt have been pushed back, and if HP6 hadn't been pushed back, then we would all be saying 'Edward Cullen? is that like...a skin disease?') well i suppose i should stop complaining: after all, who can be upset with such awesomeness as this?
  • Don't forget Up pal, that was a movie kids wouldn't even get. There are great kid movies coming out, I hope it stays this way.
  • probot
One of my most anticipated movie of this year. It would be nice to take a break from all the blockbusters this year and watch a little gem like this.
  • felicaday
"we're all gonna sleep together in a big pile"

    what?
  • Swarley
Hey man, I say that to my friends all the time, but NOOO, that's too inappropriate, we can't enjoy each other's physical company because it's awkward.

I totally know what that kid's thinking.
  • Meli_V
I love that line! It's wonderful and affectionate.
  • Electro_Jones
There is a chance that the movie will be insufferable.
  • The Great Cambino
There's also a chance that I could walk out of my apartment tomorrow and be killed by a flying cheetah in a purple jumpsuit, but I'm not banking on it.
  • duder
How'd you know my evil plan to destroy you?!
  • Spectacular. My entire childhood has just flashed before my eyes. I haven't had a film hit this close to me heart before.
  • Wow. Just Wow.
  • LOVED the footage we saw at Comic-Con, it was such a relief to find out afterwards that I wasn't the only grown man welling up with tears at those three scenes.
Definitely the film I'm most looking forward to this year. There seems to be a real magic in this thing. Reminded me a little of early Terry Gilliam too, which can't be a bad thing.
  • jakejoc
I have personally seen the film and it is PHENOMENAL.
  • duder
Well, now I need another pair of underwear!
  • dagreenman18
This just might beat Up as my favorite movie of the year., and thats from seeing the fucking trailer.
  • wittyphrase
If you've never "read" the source material stop by your local Barnes and Noble for five minutes. The book is only ten sentences long. Either way, words can't describe how absurdly excited I am to see this movie.
  • fleshyhead
I did not know there was an audiobook of Where the Wild Things Are, and to think I spent countless seconds reading it as a kid. Is there an audiobook for Where's Waldo?
  • BrokenHelix79
    Awesome.
  • Not as good as the first trailer, which was one of THE best trailers I've ever seen, but still freaking fantastic! I am so pumped for this.
  • ezekial
Anyone notice that they silently announced that this was to be released in IMAX?

I caught HP6 for the second time, but this time at the IMAX. They showed a couple of previews and before it, they said that none of these movies were going to be in IMAX. So the Where The Wild Things Are trailer comes up. It fills up the whole screen and has the IMAX sound, it looked great in that format. Though it didn't say it was coming in IMAX...

Today, on the IMAX YouTube channel, they have just uploaded the "IMAX trailer" for this movie. I know I'm happy about this confirmation, but how come there hasn't been any website to know about this?
  • An entire generation is going to hold this film as close and as dear as they did the original book. Such magical filmmaking.
  • Fir3Wolf
I read the book so many times and love it even now. The movie looks great and that trailer was beautiful. I'll be seeing this movie for sure opening day.
  • fleshyhead
Who the Hell says they saw this movie already? Whatever Dude, are you like Spike Jones or something? Give me a break.
  • Uh, studios test screen movies you know.
