When Will The First Trailer For Avatar Be Online?

Avatar

Now that the Comic-Con hype has died down, you might be wondering when the first trailer for James Cameron’s Avatar will be online. The answer is so very obvious: Avatar Day, of course!

You might remember that Cameron announced at the Con that 15 minutes of his new 3D sci-fi epic will be screened nationwide and internationally on August 21st as part of a marketing campaign Fox has dubbed “Avatar Day.” We’ve finally received an official press release from the studio that gives us a little more information about the promotion.

  • The 15 minutes of footage will screen only in 3D at “select cinemas and IMAX theaters.”
  • “Details on locations and reserving tickets for this extraordinary and unprecedented experience will be announced soon.”
  • The worldwide trailer launch will be presented in all formats, including IMAX® 3-D, IMAX® 2-D, digital 3-D, digital 2-D, and 35mm 2-D. The trailer will also be available online.
  • Also on Avatar Day: “Ubisoft will unveil the trailer for their videogame James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game, and Mattel will reveal the action figures for the film’s Avatar and alien Na’vi characters.”

When we learn ore about locations and times, we’ll pass along the info. And below you can find a high resolution scan of the Avatar banner which was on display in the streets of San Diego as part of Comic-Con.

    ....Wee...

Hate to be the negative nancy of the group, but what I saw at Comic Con was nothing "revolutionary".

    I have a feeling I'll enjoy District 9 a lot more.
  • The question isn't if it will be revolutionary or not, the question is if it looks awesome or not. Anyone expecting a revolution was/is bound to be disappointed. That said, the footage from the film looked incredible.

I'm not hearing much of anything about this movie. 6500 people at Comic con and not very many people talking about it from what I saw on the net.
I checked movie sites, Twitter, Facebook and just about everywhere else ... and came to the conclusion that out of 6500 nerds:
    A. People who saw the footage just didn't bother to tell the rest of the world "HOW GREAT AVATAR IS"
    B. People where not that impressed, didn't care, or forgot about it quickly.

The film couldn't be that incredible could it?
6500 people = very little reaction or buzz from the people who actually saw it.
  • Brian
You guys keep jumping to conclusions when you saw what 20minutes of an almost 3 hour movie? Shame on ANYONE who judges James Cameron like that, shame on you!
  • mchops
District 9 was good but Avatar will blow it out of the water. T2 is still good (I watched it the other day) even with outdated fx. That's the effect Cameron has on the movie world. Avatar will probably still be sick 5 to 10 years from now.
  • You're going to enjoy District 9 a lot more??? I hate to be the negative nancy on this one but dude it's James Cameron. This man has never let me down. Terminator, Terminator 2, Aliens, Titanic. The man is the king of action movies. Granted I don't think it's going to be revolutionary either but it's still going to be a groundbreaking movie. I'm excited as hell to see district 9 too but come on man... it's fucking Avatar. Just sayin haha.

But then again it sounds like you saw the footage so I guess in the end I cant really say much
  • RainMan
    Titanic?
  • olivermaton
Dude c'mon, it's the highest grossing film of all time.
  • Gelman
District 9 is going to be a cliche-filled little film that hardly anyone sees.
  • bonchampion
have you read a review? seen a trailer? wrong.

    the uncanny valley approaches...

The thing about Avatar is that the story seems pretty old-fashioned, and the hype over the new 3D tech is all the buzz. If the 3D doesn't live up the (ridiculously high) expectations of audiences, this could be a flop.
  • A@ronW
Its deff not just about the 3d. the story may seem olf fashioned cause its been used in diff ways before, but this will be all new, and James Camerons take on it. People arent just looking forward to the 3d, but the photoreal effects, new imaginatvie planetary invironment, and the story. Which ive been told is going to be very emotional. Which atleast to me is a good thing and what really draws u in and makes you believe it.

I agree, even if the CG is 'only' as good as LOTR/gollum (by all accoutns it's better) I'd still be on board for this movie. I love the idea of the journey to another world so wonderfully imagined and bought to life and in immersive 3D no less. The story is one I dig too, it's a classic theme of two different cultures clashing for the first time. Adventure, love and kick ass action. That's all good by me.
  • lol ... what a douche u are ... specially with a name like that! are u cameron's butty boy? lolz
  • Kilar
The 'hype' really only applies to us film geeks who have been tracking this film for the past year or so. The general public have NO idea about this film as there is no marketing out there for it, yet.
The general movie going public's first exposure and knowledge of this film will be when the trailer hits and their expectations will be based on that.
If Avatar dissapoints, it will only dissapoint rabid fan boys who have built up expectations that no film could ever deliver. That's their fault. By most accounts Avaatr is pretty stunning.
  • comersa1
i hope it lives up to it. I Believe that they are going to show the first 15 of the beginning of the movie, much like they did with The Dark Knight when they showed the first six minutes in front of I am Legend. it will probably will be the best action adventure movie this year.
  • bdawg923
Is the blue person in the photo supposed to be CGI? Because if that's CGI, holy shit, it is realistic-looking.
  • Colonel_Kurtz
    Yes, that is CGI.
  • Name
To be honest, being an artist, I'd have to say that's more photo manipulation than CG.
  • mchops
We won't see a trailer until November. Holy late!
  • agentx90
The trailer comes out on August 21st......November, WTF?, maybe trailer # 2.
  • All I can say is, ABOUT FRAKING TIME!
  • mchops
for what? Avatar day? or the trailer?
  • Trailer. I just want to be able to see something so I can make up my own mind about this project I have been hearing years about.
  • Gatcha
"Details on locations and reserving tickets for this extraordinary and unprecedented experience will be announced soon.”

Wait.. what? reserving tickets. Please don't tell me I have to pay to see a commercial. Fscking fail..
  • mchops
    @gatcha
You don't have to pay for it just reserve a ticket.
  • FreDre
There's a guy who got in possession shaky footage from Comic Con, he posted some thumbnails of it at IMDb forum and it looks like he is legit.
The good thing is that, for now, he didn't leaked it, but he probably will since he's seeking for attention.
Still, seeing from the look of the angle of the camera that captured it, it's not worth it.
I'd rather wait until Avatar Day.
  • comersa1
do you have a link to that or something to see
  • Poland626
Wait. What's the point? WHY would I travel to my nearest IMAX 3D theater to wait in line for an hour or two to at least get a good seat.......JUST to watch 15 minutes? Why not show a movie or something afterwards? Maybe do what they did with The Dark Knight where they have a clip, then a movie (I Am Legend)
  • The footage at Comic-Con was great. Some truly stunning environments were shown. I can't wait for Avatar Day!
  • Deee
So it seems like everyone here has seem some kind of footage from this movie. Did anyone record any video of footage?
  • Ok, this is just becoming too confusing. I just finished watching season 2 of Avatar: The Last Airbender and there is an episode about an "Avatar Day." I know they're calling the film "The Last Airbender" but I can't break the Avatar association with the series.

Is anyone else having this problem?
  • LuMendz
I am, and I'm pretty sure everyone else who doesn't know about this project and watched the cartoon series would be also.
  • ryz
This has nothing to do with the Avatar tv show.
  • Captain Awesome
    No. Because I'm not retarded.
  • Hat
Shoulda known those bastards had merchandising rights.
  • Emurion
That press release is like a week old?
  • After all the announcements for the past year or so, and things I read in the past week after Comic Con, I have a feeling that this movie will be a big disappointment. If they wanted to showcase 3D tech, and amazing graphics they didn't have to make a movie. Because movie still need a lot more to be considered good, let alone revolutionary. I am disappointed with Cameron's work in the past 15 years, and I am not holding my breath for Avatar to be amazing movie.
  • lorettajohnson
i really hope cameron does not read this thread. i'm sure he would lose countless nights of sleep because Milan Petrovic has not approved of his career of late.

dont get me wrong, im psyched for this film too, but i have to agree that the reaction from the comic-con audience was less than stunning- even from our boys here.

You guys said it was awesome, which is great! James Cameron is the freakin man and I wanna check this out, but if it isnt "revolutionary" then yeah alot of us "fanboys" ((why that term was used is beyond me to describe some of us with slight disappointments)) will be a little bummed. I only started following news on avatar when major directors were shown footage and described it as a second coming and a revolution is CGI and whatnot.

So, YEAH, those of us who read those quotes and read people's reactions to the footage are a little underwhelmed already. That doesnt make us fanboys, it makes us victims of the hollywood hype machine =\ Im crazy excited, just tryin to set some of the record straight here
  • Colonel_Kurtz
I can say unequivocally that I won't be disappointed in the movie whether or not the tech is as revolutionary as has been hyped. I'm pretty sure it won't look cheesy, and that's the only thing that could ruin it for me. I have complete faith in Cameron to make a kick ass movie. I won't be going to Avatar day though. I wouldn't be able to watch 15 minutes and have to wait 3 more months for the other 150 minutes.

James Cameron loves making movies. Michael Bay loves being a Hollywood director. Big difference.

If there is any chance of finding out where to see this in different Australian capitol cities, aswell as posting U.S. ones, I'd appreciate it as I am struggling to find info. But I do understand your a U.S. based site.
