Pirates of the Caribbean

Disney’s Head of Production Oren Aviv tells ComingSoon that the fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is gearing up to begin shooting early 2010

“We’re going to shoot Pirates 4 in April and May of next year,” Aviv said. “We are going to release it hopefully in 2011.”

Aviv also says that the plan is for Pirates 4 to “hopefully be the first of another trilogy,” which would be shot by itself, and not back-to-back like the previous Pirates sequels. No word on who will direct the new film. Series helmer
Gore Verbinski was originally attached to another Pirates film, but left to direct a big screen adaptation of the video game Bioshock. But as you probably know by now, Bioshock has stalled while the studio reassesses how to bring down the project’s budget.  With no start date in sight, Verbinski could possibly direct the fourth Pirates movie.

As long as Depp and Geoffry Rush are back I'm looking forward to this.
I hope they get some good new talent as well to replace Bloom and Knightley.
  • ryz
I agree. Depp and Rush are brilliant actors
  • Christy
Indeed!! it wouldn't be the same without Depp and Geoffry Rush I could not see anyone else playing the role of Barbossa better then him!
  • ...
I agree with the replacing Knightley but Bloom, even though not as good an actor as Depp and Rush, is also cool (not to mention super good looking) so i think he should stay, I think he plays a REALLY important part in the movies already anyway
  • mbellerbrock
Ugghhhhhhh! No more fucking Pirates. The last one was the worst movie I've ever paid to see.
  • AJC
You clearly haven't seen Transformers 2
  • mbellerbrock
Nope, paid to see that, as bad as it was, Pirates 3 was worse.
  • Andyroo
I thought hellboy 1 was the worst movie I ever paid for
    I liked pirates 1-3 and can't wait for #4
  • mbellerbrock
Blah, just watched Hellboy 1 again. I've been trying to understand them from a critical standpoint, I really want to like Del Toro since he's directing the Hobbits. I just hate Hellboy tho... And Pan's Labyrinth just wasn't my cup of tea either.
  • politico
What?!?!? Pan's Labyrinth was pure awesome!
  • Rockie
    blah
  • Michael_C
The Pirates sequels are pretty much the only blockbusters that I know suck but am never the less able to really enjoy, so I'm up for this. If you feel differently, you're probably right.
  • again a hit for johnny

    sdgfsd
  • Rena
Booooooo no more pirates its over its finished. I'm glad they liked it so much but can we maybe come back in 4 or 6 years?
  • stevevantine
Damn this really squashes my hopes of Depp playing the riddler.. if the earlier batman news was true, anyway. :/
  • CheshireAna
That was most definitely just a rumor. There's not even the beginnings of a script for another Batman film set in stone, much less a cast list. Plus, Nolan never really casts A-list stars like Depp.
  • spinster
I thought they were done with Pirates franchise
  • jim_koman
    Groan/Yawn.
  • Bobbio
Hey if its Pirates without Legolas, I'll be overjoyed.
  • The only 'Pirates' movies worth watching starred Jesse Jane and Evan Stone.
  • politico
    Agreed!
  • Ken Byrd
Pirates franchise has a closure. Enough already. Gore should have put his time on Bioshock.

Same with 300. What's wrong with Hollywood?
  • Guest
I believe they're shooting in Puerto Rico. With their huge tax incentive.
  • Enthropii
    Bring Verbinski back.
  • frelling_cute
These movies have gotten worse and worse but like Transformers 2 making tons of money people seem to like this uninspired crap.
Check your head at the door. Brain too.
  • aleex
if you are so briliant go and make movies...because the one you call "uninspired" is making more money in each movie than you in 10 years xD
  • topheavy
The first one was o.k., the second one was horrid, and the third was even worse than that somehow. Don't bother asking why I was still committed to watching the 3rd one, and it was actually THE reason for a change in my movie watching habits. Anyone else think low of this over-hyped, saccharinated, action set piece extravaganza, and paycheck of a thing?
  • topheavy
Oh, and depp's acting is serviceable.. much like tim burton's movies after the 90's. All this stuff seems trollable, but I actually believe this garbage to be true. So no offense intended.
  • rei
Just because some don't like it doesn't mean everybody will hate it. I for one would like to see another trilogy. We can't pls. anyone IMO. In the end all those whining here and there will also watch it nonetheless... what a bunch of hypocrites

man, you guys need to grow up, you sound like 12 year old girls.
i'm from the caribbean, i can say: the taste of reality/fiction they got for this movies was simply brilliant, the pirate era was one of the most realistic and mythological times ever, the vision on having the world at your horizon to just go and adventure it by sea, is beautiful for artistic people that like to live they're lives free, all you haters are the "so called civilized" people that tried to make yourselves feel better by saying nonesence.

what the f**k you guys know about movies?? God!! you're all so stupid, if the movies were that bad has you all say, YOU WONT EVEN BE HERE READING THIS AND COMMENTING IT.

ps. no one comes close to depp's acting, NO ONE.
  • rvee
the 4th version is releasing on 2011,bull shit i can,t wait any more man.shoot the film and release it soon and njoy the fever of it.bbyeee
  • I am the biggest fan of pirates of the caribbean and hope that everyone is in the movie like johnny Depp, orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, Geoffry Rush, and maby even Russell Brand as Jacks brother. I cant wait till I see on the big screen!!!
  • jack
they wanna be carefull depp is getting old he is 50 already
  • I liked all the Pirates movies, and I am a fan of Johnny Depp. But I really wish he would take a break from the movies for a bit. I mean, he is in "Public Enemies", he's in "Alice", then he will be in Tim Burton's vampire movie, and now he's possibly (or most definitely) returning in another Pirates movie?
