Today, we witnessed the true measure of devotion: Twilight fans lining up over a day in advance to see Summit’s New Moon panel tomorrow afternoon. Despite the fact that this event is taking place at COMIC-CON (the world’s largest gathering of geeks/nerds), Star Wars fans have nothing on these guys. This afternoon, we had the opportunity to talk with some of the most devoted followers of the Twilight franchise, and hear what they had to say about their fandom. Hit the jump to see this illuminating video.

This next video shows that while there are plenty of rabid fans, a lot of the line-waiters are just devoted parents, trying to do a good thing for their kids. Some are so hard core that they are willing to wait in line for the panel a day after they’ve brought a child into this world.

Please note: Keep the comments respectful on this one, guys. Lightly snarky remarks are fine, but personal attacks will result in your comment being removed and your username being banned.

no matter how stupid i think the "twilight saga" is, but the people in the second clip are really sweet.
  • team Eli
The dads in the second clip were hysterical! So true! So true!

  • Danisgod6491
    Those Dads were awesome.
  • Nindie
LMAO @ Mike, what a dude
  • MickJ
Mike the Dad, dropping truth bombs. His girls probably don't appreciate him as much as they should.
  • yodaboy01
They love something with a passion and if you visit this site on some level everyone should respect that. That said, in regards to comic-con somebody needs to realise just how passionate these people are and split it off from the main program that sounded like it was already getting over crowded before this was thrown into the mix. Have 'Twi-con' either a day before or after to cater for the cross over people, but something needs to be done with several films left and more con appearances inevitable.
  • Andyrooskie
Alas, there are already Twi-Cons... one is happening next week. My mom and sister are attending. Did you really think that Twilight fans would be satiated with merely a convention of their own?? ;-)
  • Octoberist
while it's easy to bash the Twilight fans, I just find it very facinating, you know? It's their Dark Knight..their Harry Potter. It's unique.
  • Travis McGee
True, but even Harry Potter/Star Wars/Batman fans don't wait in line that long at comic con to watch a panel for 30 minutes.
  • I have read about people who have camped for three days for the latest Potter film. And they ended up hating it!
  • Garber
I think we can all agree that fanbases are a weird and fickle bunch. It's hard to figure their reactions to things. There are still Star Wars fans who think the prequels are great movies; there are X-Men fans that think X-Men 3 is the best movie because it has the most action, plot be damned; some Potter fans dislike movies 3 and 6 despite being impressive cinema to us geekier cinemaphiles; some Watchmen fans hate Snyder's visual flourishes or squid omission despite its impressive virtues -- you can never get a handle on where diehard fans are going to land on things.
  • Garber
    Forgot to add:

With that being said, I think we can all agree why people have an adverse reaction to Twilight fans -- because to them it's all about cute boys.

As incredibly popular as the books may be, if the movies had starred Rob Schneider there would be absolutely no turnout of thousands of fans. It's all about cute boys.
  • Burton
And that makes Potter/Star Wars/Batman fans better? I don't care if you're waiting at the theater or at a comic convention, its pathetic. Its only a movie. They are only actors.
  • josh
other fandoms are willing to admit when their crap sucks though. most twilight fans i know really didn't like the movie or the fourth book, but then they still are going absolutly ape-sh## over them. When spiderman 3 ended up like it did, did we herald it like it was the best picture ever?
  • starscream9289
I felt like that girl was gonna leap from her seat and tear that guy's beard off when he said that Twilight was crap.
  • archibald
you could hear them in the background having a conversation once david moved on haha
  • Danisgod6491
The battle of San Diego aka the Twilight Wars, i remember thy...so many of nerds lost. May we never forget 7/28/07
  • starscream9289
I still bear both the physical and mental scars from that wretched day. The nightmares still haunt to this day. That day I learned the real meaning of fear.
  • Danisgod6491
Who needs fear when you got Willpower. Am i right?
  • Craigasorusrex
I guess the South San Francisco trampling wasn't enough for Twilight fans.

Looks like they'll finish the job at Comic Con 09 Hall somehow indirectly interfering the "Avatar" presentation further fueling my complete indifference towards this franchise.
  • MrCavanagh
Because the people camping out for the prequels were any better?
  • Octoberist
    Mike the Dad was hilarious.
  • WOW That was awesome! I can't wait to show my girlfriend those clips.
  • Wiimo
I'll preface this by saying I'm not a fan of Twilight at all. There must be something wrong with you if you don't find these videos hilarious. Loved the question about Avatar and Devindra explaining that Dracula IS a love story. The responses from all involved were priceless.

Please make a video like last year where you asked people if they've heard of the site. I know Dave tweeted it again a few days ago and it still makes me laugh. Well.. you already found one fan and he was in the Twilight line!
  • Shu
While I don't get the whole Twilight obsession at all, it's still really cool to see such devotion from its fanbase.

And I agreed, the dads were hilarious.
  • Octoberist
I think it gives a different perspective on things.

For example, I read an article about Archie Comics announced that Arche was getting married. I read the reader comments and some of them were kinda cute, like how one readers parents read Archie to her and she is planning to do the same with her kids.
  • Shu
    That is pretty cool.
  • w/e these fans are insane
  • Palmer
I'd imagine the screaming during the panel will be deafening. I'm just wondering what all those Twilight fans are going to do after the panel. I mean would they just leave or stick around to experience the other things Comic-Con has to offer? And, how was the giant influx of Twilight fans effected the traffic and parking around the convention center. Because before Twilight, finding parking and getting to the convention center was pretty terrible to begin with.
  • Corey
David, you just made an epic win.
  • IanMM
"I don't really give a shit" hehehe great stuff.

Dave should of asked Destiny for her number, she's heaps pretty. After he asked for her name I almost thought Dave was gonna look into the camera and give a wide eyed "wow she's pretty" look, I'm pretty sure I would of hehe
  • coldhearted
those dads in the second videos is hilarious haha
  • By far, you guys continue to have the best Comic-Con coverage, funny and informative.

I thought the girl in the first clip (who took the photo) was pretty hot. Definitely not who I generally think of when I think of Twilight fangirls.
  • arthera09
Everyone says that Comic-Con is for the nerds/geeks and that the Twilight people are out of place. I think they are in exactly the right place. Just because they do not love Star Wars does not mean that they are not nerds/geeks. I promise you that those are not the "cool" kids of the school and are as geeky as they get. They just do not have any true "geek cred".

Note: I have never seen Twilight and NEVER will.
  • LuMendz
Haha, You go Mike! Teach that girl a lesson! Haha, but in all seriousness, you really do have to admire their loyalty to the series.
  • babyjaypan
that dude was a FAMILY MAN. would never be able to do that if i had kids
  • hellojacktoad
    Fooking mental.
  • It's quite cute and scary at the same time, Star war fanboy are just the same (only hairier and smellier)
  • Why should we keep our comments respectful? Why should I respect these people? By the way, I hate Hunter Stephenson's writing.
  • Itri12
    lol troll.
  • Rosario Lopez
The same reason why we have to respect you, its called being nice and not being disrespectful just because they happen to like something as much as they do or we happen to disagree on something.
  • Itri12
I have no problems with these Twilight fans and their obsession. At least it's not Transformers.

Ha and that was perfect at the end with the guy who basically explained it all with the "I don't give a shit line".
  • zamarov
they're great videos, very funny as well
great to see girls have their own thing to geek out about at comic-con

it was very funny how the first dad was saying twilight was complete crap and the girl next to him was boiling up inside and was about to deck him!

though its kind of sad the way they dismiss bram stoker
one, without bram stoker there would be no twilight
and two, dracula is a classic romantic novel

ps i have seen twilight in the cinema and its rather good
  • paulclarke
Bram Stoker's "Dracula" is *not* a romance. In the novel, Count Dracula is a force of evil--there's no romance between Mina and Dracula in the book. Countless film adaptations have added that hook in order to make Dracula a bit more relateable as a villain. But he most definitely is not a gothic romancer in the original novel.
  • Rabi
Mike is hilarious. You would never expect a guy with a bunch of tattoos and a dye-red beard who owns a doughnut shop to wait 36 hours for a Twilight panel.
  • mcgruff
team switzerland hahaha. love it. this definitely gives a good look at the other side of twilight fans (as opposed to Alex's story last year about the crazy twilight mom who almost got him kicked out of hall h). awesome reports, guys. keep it up.
question- are you guys (slashfilm) in line yet?
  • Adisgruntled13yrold
Ok i really need to get this off my chest. Why are girls so in love with robert pattinson? just because he played the character of Edward Cullen in a couple OK movies doesn't mean he's actually nice and protective as is his character in the book/movie. I myself have seen an interview with Robert Pattinson and he talked about how he hated kids and he will only marry girls if they look hot. Or something along those lines. In my opinion Robert Pattinson is D***. And no i'm not jealous of him because i would hate having 12 year old girls trying to hump my leg every where i go. In conculsion i have to say that i have no clue why girls go soooooo crazy over Robert Pattinson. If it is because he played as Edward then people need to have a reality check and figure out the difference between fantasy and real life. If they like him because they think he's "hot" then all the power to them. I could care less
  • Bob Funn
    So you care a little?
  • Hobo General
I am jealous. I would switch lives in an instant with Robert pattinson. All I do is sit in my room and read movie websites. Anything is better than this.
  • poltah
My problem is that these girls seems to spend a lot of time because the lead is "hot". They seem shallow and uintellegent to me.
Furthermore, the Twilight books are very poor writing and in all honesty, if you analyze the books just a little bit, the books are very, very sexist.

    I don't think it's healthy at all.
