LEgion at Comic Con

Maximum PC has a bunch of spy shots from the still-being-set-up Comic-Con show floor, most of which isn’t too interesting (boxes being unpacked, displays being assembled). The one that caught my attention is this advertisement for the Screen Gems film Legion. The image of an angel holding a knife and a gun is very striking.

Legion

This film has basically gone under my radar. Most everyone I know (aside from some of the horror site writers) were shocked to hear that it was being bundled with District 9 at the Sony panel because, well, most people hadn’t ever heard of the film before. Here is the official synopsis from the Comic-Con schedule:

When the last angel falls, the fight for mankind begins. Having lost faith in the human race, a legion of angels descend to Earth to bring about the Apocalypse. Humanity’s only hope lies in a group of strangers trapped in a desert diner and the Archangel Michael himself (Paul Bettany). Appearing on stage: Paul Bettany (A Beautiful Mind, The DaVinci Code), Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights, Supernatural), Tyrese Gibson (Transformers, Death Race), Doug Jones (Silver Surfer in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and Abe Sapien in Hellboy), and director Scott Stewart (helming his first feature film after working on VFX for Sin City, Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire, and Iron Man, among many others). From Screen Gems.

Legion is currently scheduled to hit theaters on January 22nd 2010.

  • at first glance it's badass, but then it looses all its impact to me with the machine gun... it's just so gratuitous. either way im intrigued
  • I've got to agree, after a closer look it kind of just seems to be a nerds wet dream "There's this Angel and he's got a knife AND a gun!"

As for the movie itself, sounds interesting!
  • Wiimo
I agree. Not to mention that the angle he's holding it makes it look like the gun was Photoshopped in or something. Think a pistol would have looked better. Or you know.. no gun at all, haha.
  • The Great Cambino
This is a really cool idea, I hope it's good.

What I really want to see in this vein, though, is a Paradise Lost-style battle for heaven movie. Call it 'Lucifer' and make it epic as hell. Demons and angels, Satan and God duking it out on screen would be awesome.
  • The Iron Avenger
Have you ever heard of the TV show Supernatural? Its pretty much this movie mixed with what you just described.
  • and it's awesome. Especially this last season
  • Niki
And Adrianne Palicki will appear in this 5th Supernatural season as well. Is she a spy or what? LOL
  • The Iron Avenger
AND Papa Winchester is back! AND Ellen is back! AND the Meg demon is back!
  • SS
    wicked pic- beautiful colors
  • Captain Awesome
    What an unoriginal title.
  • Johan
Looks stupid. Even with a generic fantasy sword, it would have looked better. Why would an angel need a firearm? And why can´t they come up with something more original than white feathers on the wings. Sometimes I see art for angels by very skilled artists and think that would make some cool angels on film.

This sort of thing has already been done with Gabriel.
  • arthera09
I do not not care what anyone thinks. I think this looks totally badass. I was totally sold as I saw the picture. I love it.
  • drunkentoad
Yep, sounds like a big budget version of Gabriel to me.
  • Fir3Wolf
I just was the picture and had to click on this. Sure it doesn't explain a ton but that poster got me interested in learning more about it.

If You look in High def theres writing upon the knife as well as the angels body, showing his natural weapon, the gun pointing down showing, that in order for the angel david to beat his fellow angels from creating the apocolypse, hell have to use both his own and human weapons aswell as humans.

Also he has blacks wings and theres are a few small white ones at the back.

This film could work, but the small town thing sounds a lil crap.
  • King Ralph
Isn't Dennis Quaid the star of this?
  • Gajonka
Is this based upon Wm Peter Blatty's book, "Legion"? If not, what a tragedy.

Great book - check it out. The protaganist wrote an excellent resignation letter early in the book. I actually had to go back to the library with a pen and flashcard and copy it word for word for a resignation letter I put together for a job I was leaving.

    Great Stuff!

    Thanks, Peter!!

You ARE the best, and the man.

    The Gajonka.
  • Remember hearing about this when they were casting. Forgot all about it. Glad it's coming out so soon
  • bob
Looks like the low budget movie Gabriel. Angels that fight with guns
  • mcgruff
not sure what you guys are looking at but all i see is PAUL BETTANY as an ANGEL with a f***ing knife and machine gun standing in front of a Paradise Falls diner. what the hell else is there to want?
  • Just picked up the screenplay for this, getting ready to check it out now.

This looks like a cheesy "mock" film that might appear as a joke in an actual movie. The tagline, the machine gun... ugh.
