Alice In Wonderland

Walt Disney Pictures will be showing off their upcoming films at Comic-Con later this week, but audiences around the country will be seeing some new footage, in the form of 3D movie trailers, on the big screen this Friday. Which trailers? The teaser trailer for Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland and the 3D double feature release of Pixar’s Toy Story 1 & 2 will be attached to G-Force. The Alice in Wonderland trailer will premiere on Facebook on Thursday at 4pm pdt.

The Loyal Subjects of the Red Queen, the Loyal Subjects of the White Queen, and the Disloyal Subjects of the Mad Hatter are all building armies on Facebook. The fan page with the biggest army at 4PM PDT on Thursday, July 24 will get to see an exclusive new trailer from Disney’s ALICE IN WONDERLAND before anyone else. So be sure to log onto Facebook and choose a side.

Disney has also provided us with four new high resolution photos which premiered in Vanity Fair last week, which you can check out below. Don’t want to wait until Thursday/Friday to find out what’s in the trailers? /Film reader Michael H has screened the trailers in 3D, and offers his description of the footage after the jump.

The following report was filed by /Film reader Michael H:

Running time 2:33 Toy Story 1/2 then Alice.

Toy Story looks just like the Toy Story 3 trailer we’ve seen. It starts with Woody looking for Buzz; who pops up in the foreground (in the audience) with a pair of 3D glasses. The 2 of them are joined by Jessie and throw a few gimmicks out (Jessie’s hands reach out to the audience). Rex shows up, but is in 2D at first and later corrects to 2D. Release date is given and the 2 week engagement tagline. Also mentions 2 films for the price of one. [Theaters are] expecting to run them at the normal 3D pricing [surcharge].

Alice in Wonderland features gorgeous imagery. Alice never speaks in the trailer. Depp does a voiceover for the trailer as the Mad Hatter. “There is a place like no place on Earth… some say to survive it you need to be mad as a hatter. Which, luckily; I am.” We get to see Alice discover and fall into the rabbit hole. Drinking the potion and shrinking. They show the Cheshire’s face as they did in the animated Disney film - as a floating head. Never complete. I also caught the White Queen, Red Queen, Rabbit, the Tweedles, and some characters that I assume are new for this version. The 3D in Alice is subtle. It didn’t appear to have anything thrown in just to prove it was filmed in 3D.

  • March 5, 2010

Seriously? Gimmicks thrown out at the audience? I really, really hope not. I've faith in Pixar, but that sounds worryingly like a MvA paddleball-to-the-face.

    Insanely curious about Alice, though...
  • I think the gimmicks are because of the play with the 3D glasses. I know guests at my theater have been completely confused by the double billing poster in the lobby. Here's hoping this trailer will set them straight on what is actually happening October 2nd.

i think its good that they did those "gimmicks". because really, everyones seen the toy story movies, the only reason to go see these is because of the 3D. so id call it more incentive than gimmick.

Can't wait till we get the first glimpse of Alice in Wonderland. Pretty stoked to see the world Tim Burton has created. And for the record, I joined the Mad Hatter's army.
  • FUCK.

Am I really going to pay to see G-FORCE, JUST to see the Alice in Wonderland trailer in 3-D.

    FUCK.

    I think so...
  • theAguilar
I'd really hate to pay 7 dollars just to see the Alice trailer in 3D because I know if I do then I will have contributed to the creation of the movie promoted by posters with the title "G-Force: The Squeakquel".
  • TheDev
I'm sure the title "The Squeakquel" is already copyrighted by the oh-so-loved Fox.
  • MarkoP
And they'll proabably use it again for the enventual "X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2: The Squeakquel".
  • Mmy
Can't wait to watch the trailer and see what else Burton's done to the Alice universe. I like what I've seen thus far - though I still question the sewing aspect of the Hatter's costume (with the slight exception of the bobbin-bandoleer; that's just cool).
  • I am so stoked.
  • Rockie
    i'm there (alice)

    just not on opening day
  • pinkl
I wonder since Twitter and Facebook are linked together if they will also premier it on Twitter too?

Thursday July 24th??? That date is not this year... it's either Thursday July 23rd or Friday July 24th...
