Fan Art: Ryan Reynolds as The Green Lantern

Fan Art: Ryan Reynolds as The Green Lantern

Last week it was confirmed that Ryan Reynolds had been cast as the title character in Martin Campbell’s big screen adaptation of The Green Lantern. /Film reader movie boy sent over this FAN MADE PHOTO, which was created by Josh MC, showing what Reynolds could look like in the black and green tights. I repeat, this is NOT real. The movie has not yet started production. Check out the full photo after the jump.

The film’s budget isn’t finalized but Warner Bros is hoping to begin shooting in January, hoping to have the films in theaters for the previously announced June 17th 2011 release date. Last we heard, Warners was planning to shoot the film at Fox Studios Australia in Sydney (to take advantage of tax rebates), with a budget of around $150 million.

Casino Royale director Martin Campbell is set to helm the project based on a screenplay by Greg Berlanti (Everwood, Eli Stone), Marc Guggenheim (Law & Order, Eli Stone) and Michael Green (Smallville, Heroes). The Green Lantern character was created by writer Bill Finger and artist Martin Nodell in All-American Comics #16, published in July 1940. The Green Lantern possesses a power ring that gives him control over the physical world as long as the wielder has sufficient willpower and strength to wield it

  • dude this concept art is pretty bad ass! i approve.
  • Stang68
WOW! Nice job to the guy who made that!
  • Ohh That is pretty sweet, nicely done fan who does fan art!
  • Travis McGee
I wonder how much the actual suit will differ from the one shown here.

    Very well made.
  • felicaday
    A lot.
  • JB
    2011 can't come soon enough
  • Rockie
    fun stuff
  • mangos
    awesome.
  • I can't get past the feeling that Green Lantern is going to tank.
  • Michael_W
It wont. I would put money on it.

Space Battles + Super Heroes + Summer + Charismatic Leading Actor = $$$
  • I completely agree. Star Trek did it, Green Lantern can do it too. ESPECIALLY if the trailer (and movie) is anywhere as bad ass as that fan made one.
  • Octoberist
I'll put money that Thor won't be a huge hit. I think Green Lantern has a great chance if it's done right. It could be the comic book movie version of Star Wars.
  • skippy
some people thought the same thing about Iron Man before it came out...
  • yungl1nk
    Hmm. I could buy it
  • yummmm! I wanna lick him up.
  • lee0047
    LAME LAME LAME LAME
  • wittyphrase
While I applaud whoever did this, does anyone else think the pointy nose of the mask makes this look a little bit like one of the sex masks from Eyes Wide Shut?
  • Currently it has a Daredevil feel to it ... I want more info
  • Henrik
I hope they drop the mask. It just looks silly.
  • pat
yea... and while they're at it maybe they should drop the ring too, right? :p
  • Octoberist
They should drop the ring, the mask, the green, and the hair and give him a mustache.
  • damn. good job. i approve as well
  • mbellerbrock
Ahh... I love Martin Campbell, but 2 superhero roles for Ryan Reynolds?
  • Octoberist
he's barely in Wolverine and Deadpool doesn't even have a director/writer for it yet.
  • Trevx
The mask is terrible. Makes him look gay.
  • This is a Fan-Art...its look pretty to me...haha...faqing photoshop
  • This is pretty good fan art if you ask me. The only spot that looks iffy is the wrist of the right hand.
  • ITHoTMK
This is about on par with the costumes in SMALLVILLE. I seriously hope the film looks better than this. It's a fair enough attempt but I for one am sick and tired of super hero costumes coming off as a blend of over treated leather and heavily woven synthetics. Sorry, this to me just seems over done.

  • good photoshop, but the costume just screams batman and robin to me. throw some nipples on it and we are a go!!
  • ITHoTMK
Fabulous!!! ;) Joel Schumacher would approve.
  • Erick
I wonder if there'd be complaints from fans/purists if he had a smaller mask like the movie Robin or Comedian instead of one which covers the nose like that.
  • Yes. One for example, would be from me.
Since that is the original mask from the comics since the origin of the character.

    The artist did good.
...But I still miss the white gloves.
  • Nice job dude, that takes a lot of work to do.

On another note, the base is a picture from Wolverine, right?
  • Ben Jules
Why must every fan-created poster and mockup and whatnot of comic book casting have the costume be all seamy and leathery and Batman Begins-ey? Maybe those are just the ones that catch my eye (and annoy me for some reason lol).
  • LuMendz
Wow. Nice work. I thought it was real when I saw the header. Looks good!
  • Egger_Buckland
Too much velvet. Not enough spandex.
  • aravindha
this is a fan made picture? I don't believe it. It looks so real and awesome but anyway nice job for person who did this
  • kentonsam
On my opinion, Ryan Is more of a Kyle Rayner than Hal Jordan, but if they are going for a younger version then I understand. Anyway, pic looks awesome looks very authentic. Wonder what the actual suit looks like though just as awesome.
  • EbonPinion
YES. I have been saying this since they read him! I'm not sure about him for Hal, but I could see him as Kyle, or Guy, actually, now that I think of it. Reynolds is good at playing arrogance.
  • rockinrors
That is really good, although its defs Page 2 material...
  • good job on the photoshop, but this costume would be horrible if it was real, looks like sumthin out of a spoof movie
  • TheDaftPunk
    Martin Campbell?
    Please be true.
  • ...Where'd the White Gloves go?
  • scotty
how does the mask stay on? superhero face glue?
  • I cant help but be amazed with this. Looks really exciting :D
  • Ruiner
Beautiful art indeed! But Ryan looks like a dipshit and proves my point that he is not fit to play the part! UGH!
  • kingkrikkit
Actually, thats juuuust about right. If Marvel can pull that off they are on the right track. The mask even looks decent (though it is reminiscent of Robin from Schumakers terrible Batman and Robin).
    I approve also
  • The Quickist Guy Around!!!!
Well done! The sleek slightly armored texture is very close to the source matreal yet funcationl enough to pass as a real uniform of some sort, and obove all it looks damn good
