lost symbol cover

Today Random House finally revealed the cover art for author Dan Brown’s latest book The Lost Symbol. The cover of the new book confirms that the third adventure will take place on home soil, with a 12-hour race to the finish quest set in Washington, DC. The book is the third in a series that follows mystery-solving Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon unravel conspiracy theories using hidden codes.  As we’ve previously reported, Columbia Pictures has already moving forward with a third film in the franchise, which already accounts for over $1.23 billion in worldwide box office.  Check out the full book cover after the jump.

The cover on the domestic release features a picture of the Capitol with a red wax seal against a background of symbols. The Masonic-like seal is speculated to be of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite for the Northern Jurisdiction, confirming rumors that the story will likely deal with the Free Masons. The cover for the Britain and Australian editions shows the Capitol and a key with a square and a compass for a handle. Brown’s U.S. editor Jason Kaufman admits that the story is set in Washington but “it’s a Washington few will recognize.”

As we would expect, he pulls back the veil — revealing anunseen world of mysticism, secret societies, and hidden locations, with a stunning twist that long predates America.

The book will hit store shelves on 9.15.09. No word on when exactly director Ron Howard plans to film the big scrern adaptation.

    I can't wait!

ugh, Dan Brown is such an overrated author. Well at least he doesn't write complete crap like "Digital Fortress" and "Deception Point" any more. Those books are an insult to readers!

looking forward to 2011's /filmcast review of the lates movie adaptation:

David: "this movie is ... like ... really bad!"
    Adam "yeah, it's complete shit!"
Devindra: "what else is there to say. Seriously!"
  • angel
deception point and digital fortress crap?!? what else was you expecting from those books, the holy grial or something
  • atothej
I don't know... a good book? it got published, didn't it?
I mean, is it so unreasonable to expect that from an author who sells millions of books? after having read the other books, I wasn't expecting much, but I was still sorely disappointed. Sorry, may knowledge of books probably can't hold a candle to your expertise, good sir...
  • CheshireAna
Sadly, being published doesn't really mean a book has to be good anymore. Look at the Twilight series. :|
  • conchobhar
Of course there are TONS of terrible books that get published, but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a book by a popular author to be... you know, good. Or at least readable.
  • JasonSearcy
Well Digital Fortress was his first book, and Deception Point was his third, and both were before the phenomenon that is The DaVinci Code. If you want to read a bad book try The Third Translation by Matt Bondurant
  • I like the author but did we need realy a sequel to davinci code?
  • JPX
"I like the author but did we need realy a sequel to davinci code?" Morecomp, you're an idiot. You obviously haven't read Dan Brown's books. These aren't sequels, they are separate stories. That would be like calling James Bond movies sequels.
  • Wheeler
I agree, but wasn't the last Bond movie a sequel?
  • angel
yeahhh! you tellem to all this ignorant fools :D
  • Charly
Yes, it was. But he meant that all James Bond movies unless Quantum Of Solace ;)
  • The Donkster
Dan Brown = worst author ever. i threw da crappy code against the wall so many times pages started falling out and I didnt even care.
  • A third book? How much trouble can one Harvard symbologist get onto really?
  • Guest
The conspiracy is that in an alternate universe a guy named Dan Brown is manipulating Robert Langdon's life. Langdon has to travel through space and time to stop Brown from churning out any more crap. He confronts Brown and forces him to type: The End.
  • Pat
I saw a movie about this book. It was called NATIONAL TREASURE starring Nick Cage.
  • JasonSearcy
Only that this book was conceived far before National Treasure came out...moron
  • Tom
Of course, for those of you who actually read the books, you know Angels & Demons was a prequel, not a sequel to The Da Vinci Code. The Lost Symbol is actually the sequel.

Although the movies didn't live up to the hype, the books are great and Dan Brown has a wealth of knowledge that few authors can offer their readers. As far as National Treasure, that was clearly a rip off based on all of the hype surrounding Dan Brown's books. Look at the timeline and get a clue.
  • "Although the movies didn't live up to the hype, the books are great and Dan Brown has a wealth of knowledge that few authors can offer their readers."

    wow.

Dan Brown is a terrible writer and there are entire books written about how bad his research is...
and Angels & Demons was not a prequel - it was the first book featuring Langdon, making 'The Da Vinci Code' the sequel.
  • ericdpalmer
Agreed that his research is terribly flawed but IMO Angels and Demons was a fast & fun read when accepted for what it is: religion-based conspiracy fiction. Da Vinci code is definitely the weaker of the two books, couldn't get past the first 30 pages.
  • alicia
Hello that would make it a prequel that in its definition is a prequel you idiot!!! And he invents a world beyone what most of us can imagine. He take the things that we all assume and goes beyond them to give a world that is hard to imagine can be real. You have to look past the religous bullshit that everyone is so stuck on.
  • John
See that's what I hate about Dan Brown readers, they think he is so good whilst they know shit about other writers because they don't actually read books.
Wealth of knowledge? My God... I suggest you read Foucault's Pendulum and I guarantee you will throw all your Dan Brown books out of the window.
  • NickN328
I recommend you get off your high horse and stop acting like a prick to people who just want to read a fun book.
  • John
That's exactly it, I'm not acting like a prick to people who want to read it as fun (hell I read them because they crack me up :')) but people who think it's great and who think that "Dan Brown has a wealth of knowledge", that is just sad and just shows that they haven't read a lot of books.
Based on Digital Fortress he doesn't know how very intelligent people (iq 170) think.
  • DBFan666
Not sure how someone could be a Dan Brown reader, but not "actually read books". Does citing a popular book like Pendulum make you more educated? Next you will be telling us how you've read Art of War 5,000 times, proving you are better than everyone else.

Agreed with everyone not named John here. Dan Brown's information is often flawed, but his Robert Langdon books are fun to read and clearly many others agree considering the number of books he has sold.
  • John
At least I am more educated presumeably for I have a Masters degree in literature. With reading books I meant exactly that, reading books some people just go for popular shite like Dan Brown and don't go for the real stuff. "Considering the number of books he has sold." my my since when does quantity preside over quality, Transformers 2 comes to mind. Or for that matter, the average public isn't very smart so yeah it makes sense that he has sold a lot of shite -> see Twilight.
  • Peter R
lol I bet even though this movie/book might suck...it will still be better than that heap of trash that was National Treasure. Tom Hanks could out-act the crap out of Nick Cage, even when Tom isn't trying like in Angels and Demons.

The first two books were fun page turners...and why not go for another movie...certainly enough people saw the first two.
But when is Mr. Symbologist going to get some action from these super-smart babes he keeps toting about?
  • I will be buying the book on opening day. Love this type of genre
  • JFK
I bet the twist is aliens. It's always aliens
  • DannyBoy
Damn you Dan Brown. Yet another page turner of a book consisting of non-existent super-size me occult sect hell-bent on ruling the world through symbols and riddles. I swear, if I find out that the Founding Fathers were Freemasons (oh wait) I am gonna call Bill Donahue and start a protest so large scale to the point where Fox News will call me up to take over as there annual anti-Dan Brown "newscaster." I warn you Dan Brown...I warn you. The only way you can rectify this book is if you include some random hottie to battle along side Robert Langdon. That and find out that she is the villain and/or the last descendant of King Salomon....wait...what?

    Fail.
  • John
Can't wait! Should be an awesome read, as were the other 2. The movies are always a let down though.
  • kenifeh
The lost Symbol is going to delve on freemason myths upon which civilization is biult. But i have a feeling Dan Brown is merely trying to stir-up controversies and make money for his books rather than conveying his thoughts for the advancement of humankind. I have a response to Da Vinci code, Lost Symbol and Angels and Demons....which is due to be out by close of next year....Beast of Global Dream
  • D.
You cool guys with your "master's degrees" who just come on here to type messages about how crap Dan Browns' books are can just give it a rest, don't read the books if you don't like his writing, no body is forcing you to read them. In fact what are you even looking at this page for. Imbecilic keyboard warriors. Its fiction man, he's not selling it as fact. BTW, literature? Get a real degree.
  • Eve
Agree. Someone who loves to criticize, actually showing his incapability to do any better. Feel deeply sorry for him ;-(
  • kc88
what crap are your guys talking your all harry potter fans i guess you all like magic..... dan brown is a fantastic author selling millions upon millions of books that are a better read than the films i just hope he writes more symbols and meanings its history after all. thats 5 books i own and have read by this guy well done dan keep it up.
  • I'm looking forward to it!!!
  • Django
The Lost Symbol was great. It kept me on the edge of my rockin chair. What a great ending as well!
  • babybrenda
u people r mean this book is awsom
  • bigtom
Whats your problem with digital fortress? I liked it. It was entertaining. A lot of books are fiction type stuff
  • oodora
A lot of you wanna be intellectuals are trashing Dan Brown and his books. You "claim" to have read one, two or more in the past, yet now you have read "The Lost Symbol". Have you annointed yourselves as critics? Really, hopefully you'll find something else to do.... something that doesn't involve pointed objects.
