San Diego Comic-Con International will be announcing the full panel line up for this year’s convention next week, but we’re able to reveal that the first footage from Matthew Vaughn’s big screen adaptation of Kick-Ass will premiere at the convention. The panel will take place on Thursday, July 23 towards the end of the day. Vaughn will be in attendance, along with some of the film’s cast members (to be announced later). This is the biggest non-studio produced comic book movie of all time, and I can’t wait to see some of the footage.

As a bit of a tease, Vaughn has provided us with this exclusive never-before-seen photo from Kick-Ass, which features Chloe Moretz as Mindy Macready aka the ruthless 11-year-old vigilante named Hit Girl.

Plot Synopsis (beware of possible comic book spoilers): Dave Lizewski is a kid growing up in a rundown suburb of America, he isn’t a gamer, he isn’t a jock, he isn’t a mathlete, he’s just a regular kid. When he is not hanging out at the local comic store with his friends Todd and Marty, he is fantasising about his school teacher and Katie Deauxma, the class hottie. The only thing that is unusual about Dave is that about a year ago his Mother died. But somehow through this blend of normality, teenage angst and irritation at being continually mugged, Dave makes the decision to become a superhero’ KICK ASS! Dave’s first foray into being a Superhero results in him being stabbed and run over. When Dave recovers he realises he can’t walk away from being a hero, and when he successfully steps in on a mugging he brings himself to the attention of the US media and Frank D’Amico could this be the guy who knicked his coke? As Dave gets sucked into the dark world of vigilante crime fighting he gains a sidekick named ‘Red Mist’.

Jane Goldman will be there as well, her husband Jonathan Ross has been dissusing costumes for him and his wife(Jane Goldman) to wear with their kids on his radio show at Comic - Con

This photo isn't new, it was in the Empire 20th Anniversary Edition a couple of months ago.
  • The publicist we got it from said it was new. I can't find it online anywhere else. The only photo Empire posted was this one http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=...
  • Just checked and it is in Empires 20th Anniversary beside the one you link to. It is however cropped and very small. This is definitely online new at the very least.

Whatever Joey, This Kicks Ass either way...
  • Joey
I'm not saying it's not Kick-Ass. It most definatly is. It's my most anticipated upcoming film and my favorite comic on the stands, I'm simply stating that the photo is not new, and has been featured elsewhere.
  • clever name
peter is allowed one mistake here and there. give em a break.

personally, even if it has been released before, its still Kick Ass enough to see again and still be excited.
  • I don't know how excited I can be about a 13-year-old girl playing an 11-year-old villain. I checked out her past work, and it consisted of guest roles on shows like My Name is Earl and voice work for Winnie the Pooh and other kids shows.

A bad kid actor can easily break a role. If anything, this girl makes me afraid the movie might not be so good. I'm hoping she's a good actress, but again, I'm a skeptic.
  • Anono
Yeah. Put some more pressure on the kid you fucktard!
  • More pressure? I'm only stating the fact that movies with kids in it can be ruined because of the kids performance. She was in Big Mama's House 2 and did voices for Pooh... Great track record...
  • yeah cause all actors start with an academy award list of movies
  • andre
Yeah, because Kick Ass will be an Oscar-worthy picture.

    hit girl isn't a villian.

There's a real "we have no idea what we're doing, but we're making this movie anyway" feel to this flick with every update I read about it. How am I supposed to get excited, let alone remotely interested, in a movie based on that shot with the thugs? The guy on the right looks like he's pissed about getting woken up from a nap. And the synopsis reads like a 13-year-old's half assed book report.
  • I love how the synopsis calls him a "regular kid", yet in the next sentence it implies he always hangs out at the comic book store. No "regular kid" i ever knew in high school did that.
  • fatcakes
ha, i thought i was the only one who noticed that.
  • papa
    She's hot. I'd hit it.

Welcome to Pedophiles Anonymous, how may I help you?
  • Sketch
I'm afraid there's going to be a lot of that going around, seeing as she'll be dressed the way she does in this.
  • Joey
Not the whole movie. Mark Millar, the creator, who has been deeply involved in the production of the film, said this is a disguise she uses while undercover. He said her actual costume is much closer to the one she uses in the comic. But ya, that will probably drive the pedos up the wall even more.
  • But still no news of a Scott Pilgrim trailer...

...But Kick-Ass is good, so I can settle.
  • L_Ron_Jeffard
It'll break my heart if I hear the film adaptation sucks.
  • TheGreenMalice
I could be wrong in the long run, but these images seem to be missing some red liquidy stuff. I hope they don't water down the violence to fit a PG-13 rating.
  • jason B
i'd heard it was rated 'R' all the way.
  • TheGreenMalice
R like Terminator Salvation R, or Hostel 2 on steroids R?
  • nic cage? really?
Terminator Salvation is PG-13....and yeh this is supposed to be as gory as the comic.
  • TheGreenMalice
Salvation was supposed to be rated R, all the way until the very end.....
  • DagnerMouse
Since the PG-13 version is the one which saw theatrical release, the only people who saw the R version(s) were those in the production loop and anybody exposed to test footage or screenings which used various edits and bits of footage which would have mandated an R rating. Unless you expect folk here to be among that small group (and they may be, so apologies if that's something well-known to frequent site visitors & comment readers), there's no way folk could reasonably answer your question. Unless I missed something and the extendo-cut-with-bonus-stuff is already out on DVD?

I'm pretty sure that's why it was pointed out that it was PG-13, just as certain as I am that anybody reading this is probably pretty tired of me belaboring such a meaningless point.

So I'll end by noting that everything I've read, seen and heard is calling attention to the filmmakers statements of having kept the violence and gore from the comic, because that's important, basically. And that may be, for me, enough reason to sit the theater for this one!
  • Did they shoot this whole movie in fisheye?
  • angrymoor
The title is so fitting. It looks kick ass!
