Deadgirl Trailer

deadgirl1

Marcel Sarmiento and Gadi Harel’s Deadgirl is already available on DVD in the UK but still awaiting cinema release in the US. Ahead of its bow in ‘limited engagement’ from July 24, Bloody Disgusting have received a top quality bootleg leak of the trailer which you can see below the break. If you want to catch the picture in cinemas, there’s a list of it’s currently scheduled engagements also at the site.

The film is essentially a zombie picture, as the trailer will reveal. Not the typical zombie picture, mind. It revolves around two young men who find a woman chained up in an abandoned asylum and, upon discovering that she’s undead, wonder just how they might enjoy (read: exploit) her.

Trent Haaga was the scriptwriter for Deadgirl. Previously, he’s acted, written and produced (as well as made sandwiches, driven cars, rubbed shoulders and all that stuff) for Troma productions. He’s a bona fide cult figure and, for me, the real draw here. Alongside, of course, his killer concept.

I don’t think this will count as a spoiler, but those of you feeling nervy about the possibility might want to click on to another story now. Jenny Spain, who plays the titular dead girl, doesn’t have a single line of dialogue in the film but it is her performance that has drawn the most acclaim. Slowly decaying via more and more extreme make-ups as the picture moves on, and charged with being a victim of some rather extreme bad behaviour it can’t have been a fun role to play. On the other hand, it is very often these relatively showy roles, gimmicked parts, that get the attention. I hope she’s done a great job and lives up to the hype. I’m just going to have to go out and get the DVD now, aren’t I? Want a review?

Care to elaborate? I'd like to hear your general impressions.

Don't think I could stomach this one... but it does look like a good movie.
  • If I understand the synopsis and the trailer correctly, and I believe that I do, this is quite possibly one of the most twisted and disturbing plots I have ever heard of.

I heard about this months ago .. and then nothing. But the trailer looks so good! Why a limited release?!?! I would love a review, BTW. And Id love to see the frickin thing... is it available in Aus, anyone know?

Please display the poster correctly (rotate 90 degrees clockwise) instead of on it's side.

This was at last years Toronto Film Festival. I almost went to see it but passed it up for Martyrs.
  • Ryan
    Good move.
I'm not saying that Deadgirl is bad...it's just that Martyrs is definitely more of an 'experience'.
  • Jason
I saw this at a film fest last year and it was by far the best if the fest. Everyone needs to see it.
  • zak
saw this at the florida film festival, it was really great, and the poster isnt supposed to be like that haha they had them hanging the other way everywhere there
  • I'm going to need convincing because that trailer was fucking horrendous. Wall-to-wall cliches and I'm pretty sure I already know how it ends... this did not look good. The clincher was AICN saying "Pretty much f-cking brilliant". Run. Run away fast.

This film is terrible. It is nothing more than a sick perverse film that only wants to be a 'torture porn' for the next level.

the film has no real story, no real performances and the overall film is a mess. The only real bright part of the whole thing was the Cinematography, which was really good.

I would not waste my time watching this film again. The appeal of this will be to lonely men who want to get their kicks from watching a zombie be fuc...

Maybe I'm missing something, but this was nothing more than a sick waste of time.

  • I remember reading about this last year on here, and I didn't know it was available in the UK on DVD already. I think I'll buy myself a copy, because it looks like one of those sick, twisted, original, films that will grab my attention for a couple of hours or so.

Interesting concept but that trailer ain't doing the movie any favors... However one word renders all up-coming zombie movies moot: Grace.
When you have audience members passing out while watching the movie, you are on to something.
    Cannot. Wait.
  • Um I saw this film at Fantastic Fest 2008 and it was something else. After 10 months, Im still really not sure if i liked it? Its not really a horror film in the traditional sense of the word, but parts of it are in deed horrible to watch. Which i THINK was the point of it? (SMALL SPOILER ALERT) Its like watching a blend of Groundhogs Day and The Accused, except the only part that loops is Jodie Foster getting rapped on a pinball machine. What I found more fascinating was the downward spiral the 2 teenagers tailspin into. 1 LOVES the control he is able to exert over the woman, while the other starts to be consumed by guilt, creating a huge rift between the two. 2 friends that basically become strangers right in front of each other as their true natures are revealed.

You know what, I take back what i said in the beginning. I did like this movie. I was slightly disturbed by it, but looking back now I guess it did what it was supposed to do. Which in my book makes it a success.

I would have enjoyed the trailer more if it would have showed what the "deadgirl" would do to them once she has been nourished again.

I am not a professional critic, but I will give it a go....

Deadgirl is predictable. I knew how it was going to end, half way thru the movie.
But, that doesn't mean I did not enjoy the movie.

Jenny Spain, who plays the orginal deadgirl, has no lines in the movie, as Mr. Connelly mentions, unless growling counts as wordage.
He also alludes the the fact that her performance might garner all the attention of this movie.

It will not...it should not. She plays a nice dead girl, but, she's a bit stiff, pardon the pun.
She is the silent horror that the story revolves around, but she does not deliver any kind of award winning performance.
In fact, you might say that her role "bites".

But, she does the best with what she has to work with, I suppose.

No, the real star of this movie, the actor that really grabs you with his acting, and his delivery, are the two lead actors, the boys who make the gruesome discovery.

This would be Shiloh Fernandez, who plays Rickie, the kid with a conscience, and Noah Segan, who plays J.T., the lost teen who wants to take full advantage of the discovery the boys make.

    But in particular, Noah Segan.

His performance is the real award winner here, and his acting job in this flick is riveting.
I could not take my eyes of off his face during his scenes.
His words, his delivery, and his facial expressions and method of acting quite frankly steal the show.

His performance alone is worth the price of the dvd.

I now find myself searching out his acting credits to see what else he has done, so I can watch any other performances he may have out there.

The plot is what it is, a zombie type horror movie with blood, and biting, and lost teens, and sex...(in a manner of speaking). But there is a twist here, in that we dont really know how Jenny Spain became zombified in the first place.
The girl is found in an abandoned asylum, so we can come to our own conclusions, but she is not a traditional zombie/vampire character.

The series of events and the ending are pretty easy to figure, and midway thru you pretty much know how its gonna turn out.
But that does not stop one from watching, and enjoying events as they unfold.

In fact, the ending leaves us with some unanswered questions, and an huge opening for a sequel, a part two, of which I certainly hope is in the works.

Its a fun romp, (if somewhat sadistic, sick, and necrosexualistic), and I think I will go watch it again.

    Dudes and dudettes..

    Cool movie.

Possibly a cult classic, if it gets the right exposure and advertising.

This could be another LOST BOYS if its sold correctly.
