Couples Retreat Movie Trailer

couples_retreat_trailer_1

Look at the cast for Universal’s upcoming Couples Retreat: Jon Favreau, Vince Vaughn, Jason Bateman, Malin Akerman, Faizon Love, Kristen Bell, Kristin Davis, Jean Reno, Peter Serafinowicz and Ken Joeong (currently extorting money from the trio of drunks in The Hangover). Now look at the first trailer, after the jump.

Couples Retreat sets up a simple premise: four couples, all friends, in various stages of success with their partnerships, go to an island paradise (”this looks like a screen saver!”) to improve their relationships. That could be a recipe for tepid, watered-down ‘adult’ comedy, and some of the trailer suggests exactly that (homosexual yoga chuckles!) while other moments suggest that Peter Billingsly’s movie keeps just enough of an edge while the actors go to town as part of a huge ensemble. Hopefully they’re not all in the first half hour. And hey, Peter Serafinowicz!

I’ve embedded the trailer below (courtesy of FirstShowing) and you can see the clip in high definition at Apple.

Fuck All of You and your spoiler mouths and my need to skim the comments.
You will die angry and Miss everything cool.
  • Tim
It looks pretty funny, but it doesn't quite feel right.
I'm sure there must be some sort of catch, it has all the elements of a decent comedy, but I can tell that all the funny moments from the film are in that one trailer.
Maybe I am just being pessimistic...
  • tunaonrice
I think I've see this movie, Forgetting Sarah Marshall/Knocked Up.

"The mature couple finds their inner self, the immature couple finds the true meaning of love."

    Blah.Blah.Blah.
  • jeez dont make it seem so generic lol
  • Once you BECOME part of a mature couple looking for your inner self, you'll find movies like this are both a great escape and fucking hilarious. Until then you can keep posting pointless comments online that illustrate just how clueless you are online.

Not everything has to be fanboy wet dreams.
  • Palmer
Wow, the intertitles for this are essentially the same type as "The Boat That Rocked" and "The Invention of Lying" of course that one is also done by Universal so no surprise on their part.
  • rnl
    shows promise,
    but not sold.
  • dagreenman18
Wow, thats a crazy good cast.
  • Captain Awesome
I think I've seen every joke and gag in this trailer in every movie in the last 30 years.
  • jason B
you just saved me some typing. it's cute, but recycled schtick.
  • Eliza
I've been really excited for this. I got to be an extra in the film, and I've been waiting for a trailer for so long. But I gotta say, I'm not as impressed as I thought I'd be. A little underwhelmed. Hopefully it's good.
  • philipthethird
Yeah, I guess "underwhelmed" ist the word I was looking for ... but I'll see it nonetheless.
  • this is a pretty disappointing, mainstreamy-looking trailer. though i knew it wasn't likely to happen, i was really hoping for the unofficial sequel to swingers/made. considering the cast, it appears to be a very bland that could have been made with anyone , or at least the trailer would have be believe.

i still hold out an ounce or two of hope but this is not a great sign.

I think Kristen Bell has put a "will only work in foreign places" clause in her contract.
    Examples:
    This movie
    Forgetting Sarah Marshall
    Pulse
    When In Rome
  • Dave
Because Forgetting Sarah Marshall was so foreign...
  • Kuillin
Duh it was set in that foreign country of Hawaii, duh again...
  • wow....awesome cast. except for the random black chick. idk her but she looks funny. cant wait for this movie......looks hilarious.
  • Colonel_Kurtz
This movie must have something going for it that just doesn't translate to the trailer.
  • Wanted to laugh, but didn't.
  • DoctorFuManchu
meh, maybe if it turns out to be a raunchy r rated rom-comedy i might be interested
  • C MAD
Only reason I'm going to see this is because i'm in the ending scene haha.
  • Michael_W
    Something about this just looks...off.

Also why are the men (with the exception of Favreau) married to women at least 10-15 years younger
  • Colonel_Kurtz
    Because they can?
  • Michael_W
If I was Kristin Bell, I would not marry Jason Batmen...

    I would marry Mila Kunis.
  • Tits Lickum
Yeah an amazing group of talent and a very, very mediocre trailer. I hope this is more Forgetting Sarah Marshall than it is Heartbreak Kid. But so far I'm leaning towards the latter.
  • Jean Reno in a speedo... slightly weird for me. But he's French so, whatevs. And if Peter Serafinowicz has a substantial part, I'll see it. He does a better Ringo Starr impression than Ringo Starr. Same goes for his Paul McCartney impression.
  • Sketch
I agree, if Peter has a decent role in it which I doubt, I'd be up for going to see this. He seems to have been given the Jonah Hill/Forgetting Sarah Marshall role in the film though. Though I wanted less Jonah, I'd want more Peter.
  • Am I the only one who thinks Jason Bateman is too old to be playing Kristen Bell's husband?? It just looks... illegal...
  • lol i agree, I dont even buy her as a wife / grown woman really.
  • rebecca
I agree, it will be more credible if he would play her dad but maybe it's not too weird in the movie.. we will see..
  • I would say this is really funny movie, no teen stuff! he he
  • okayflint
It was either Justin Timberlake or Jessica Biel, but one of them left this script in their hotel room when they stayed at my mothers hotel, so I read the script. Pretty funny sometimes, looks decent, I'll see it.
  • Justin
A buddy of mine said he (and several others) walked out of a free preview screening of this, a few weeks ago.

Their feelings are not gospel, of course, but I just wanted to throw that out there.

I was sad to hear that because I am a big fan of so many people in this movie.
  • For some reason, I am not feeling it. I was looking forward to it before this but it kinda lost some steam. I am hoping Vince Vaughn will make it worth while and I also do not buy Kristen Bell as an adult for some reason lol.
  • lakerfan
I was at a preview screening in Burbank a few weeks ago (perhaps the same one someone else men mentioned earlier), and the movie did seem a little off. I'd give the movie, as it was, a 5.5-6/10. But it seemed to not utilize Jason Bateman's talents very well. I'm a big fan of Bateman and Arrested Development, and this movie certainly didn't justify just how funny he is (or his type of comedy). His character, and his portrayal come off as very annoying. Maybe it was simply a miscast, but I didn't like his character much at all.

I won't give anything away, but me and my friends' biggest complaint was that it seems to just end very abruptly. And we told this directly to Vince Vaughn and the director Peter Billingsley. We caught them as they were walking out of the screening, and they asked us what we didn't like, so we simply told them. I thought this was pretty cool of Vince (he was a very nice guy by the way), et al, and it shows that they do care about their movie because they wanted to know what we didn't like, in order to improve the film. I like it when filmmakers actually care about the quality of their movie.
  • CaptainRyan
    Looks pretty decent.
  • Jetson
How does Jon Favreau have time to prep Iron Man 2 and be in this movie? He is a renaissance man. Oh but he never finished his Iron Man comic with Adi...now we know why ;-)
  • I will check it out based on this trailer.
  • The saving grace of that trailer was that Peter Serafinowicz was on-screen for a few seconds (great English comedian), a part from that though I didn't laugh once, I cringed a little at some of the pathetic lines Vaughan and Favreau were coming out with, but no laughing. PG-13 comedy for Adults, hmm...
  • I was in Bora Bora (on the other side of the island) during my honeymoon while they were filing this, and trust me it is like a screensaver, I will check it out if not just to remind me of my trip...
  • angrymoor
I like the trailer. It would be fun. Not "Knocked Up", but a solid comedy.
  • Nick Collins
All I need to know is Kristen Bell...
