Like many of you, I’ve never purchased or rented Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines on DVD, so this deleted scene has eluded my attention (update: some people in the comments claim that the scene was actually recorded for the T3 video game, but it was included on the T3 DVD as a deleted scene). For those of you who also missed it, this totally ridiculous sequence reveals why the Terminators look and sound like Arnold Schwarzenegger, and haphazardly explains what happened to Cyberdyne. If this scene was actually in the theatrical cut of the film, I’m sure I would have walked out. And that’s saying a lot considering the sequel was all kinds of horrible. It cracks me up that people actually tried to defend this movie over Terminator Salvation… Watch the clip after the jump.

I find it ridiculous that anyone here prefers T3 over Salvation.

T3 is a BAD remake of T2 at best, whereas Salvation actually tried to develop the franchise and stayed faithful to lots of James Cameron's original ideas.
To note my gripes with both movies.

    T3
-cheesy 'talk to the hand' moments, not to mention the elton john glasses and the gay bar, and the ridiculous fight in the toilet, and the TX hunting down teenage children, and the inflating breasts. Need i go on?
-A terrible villain (The TX is about as intimidating as a blow up doll).
    -awful acting.
-absoutely NO comprehensible explanation of why Skynet is still being developed ('Judgment Day is inevitable' doesnt cut it for me). The entire film is a massive plot hole - it doesnt even justify its own existence!
-John Connor is a whiny little girl for the whole movie.
-The Terminator 'cannot self terminate,' yet he pulls out his fuel cell and blows himself up at the end.
-The film just generally lacks any atmosphere.
-It was shot so badly it looks like a high budget TV show.

    SALVATION
-Is shot in the day (mostly) which strays from Cameron's original depiction of the future.
-Has some cheesy action (the harvester) sequences which are a little offputting.
-Has some underdeveloped characters, and not enough terminators.
-Doesnt have the full Terminator theme tune in it.

So explain to me, why Terminator Salvation is so bad?

That is frickin hilarious. Arnold is great with the comedy.
  • it_burns
Saw this yesterday and it left me and some co-workers cracking up. Seriously, this is all they could come up with? We spent the rest of the day going "Hi, I'm Sargeant Candy!"

Seriously, Arnold doing a horrendous redneck accent is comedy gold.

I just threw up in my mouth.

That is the worst abomination next terminator salvation. If they could have beefed up the story of Arnold's human character they could have made a terminator 4 featuring an old human Arnold fighting terminators to save John Connor. That would have been an interesting twist, something that's been lacking in the last 2 movies
  • Holy Shit! what we're they thinking! Truly Amazing.

" And that’s saying a lot considering the sequel was all kinds of horrible. It cracks me up that people actually tried to defend this movie over Terminator Salvation"

It's pretty easy to defend Terminator 3, a genuine GOOD film, over Terminator 4, a peice of crap.

Not only wasn't Terminator 3 "horrible", it was, in fact, quite good and fixed terminator 2's huge, gaping plot holes. Mostow had the balls to end his film the way T2 SHOULD have ended.

Why exactly did you not like Terminator Salvation peter? It was a great movie!
  • Paolo
T3 was a bad terminator movie. T: Salvation was just a bad movie.

I actually dig this scene. I know it's goofy but it's quite cool.
  • frodoarg
T3 sucks, period. It should have been called "Not another Terminator movie" and have arnold double play the T and that's how bad that movie was. It's terminator for 12 years old that didn't get to see t2.
  • Chris
salvation lacked any real character/humanity in a film that promised exactly that! T3 was an awful film due to tone and its performances; however, the story to T3 was doomed from the start -- after all it did have to rewrite history (re: ending of T2)

T3 in terms of characters far surpassed Salvation. I am interested in a extended cut of Salvation with all the character bits put back -- see if its any better
  • TOm
Ive seen this before... It's hard to remember if it was in the acutal movie or not... I saw this twice in theaters (never on dvd) and never played the game.
  • PewPewPew
If you couldn't find the pure fun in this scene then I feel sorry for you.
  • Brent
I'll defend this movie over Terminator Salvation any day, and I can't see any reasons whatsoever to like Salvation more than T3. Give me a few and maybe I'll reconsider.
  • Tbone78
This reminds of Hercules In New York (AKA Hercules Goes Bananas) which was Arnold's first "major" movie. His accent was so thick they had an American actor dub over all of his lines. They restored his original dialogue track for a DVD release a few years ago, but that really took away some of the campy charm from this otherwise atrocious movie.
  • This is pure gold. Show it to McG and he'll be inspired to make a whole new Terminator trilogy.
  • freemachine
That's like one of bogus commercials Paul Verhoeven is known for inserting into his films (Robocop, Total Recall, Starship Troopers). I thought it was pretty funny and no worse than the rest of the footage that made it into T3.
  • fred
PETER, you're always hating on T3. It's not actually a bad movie, it just pales in comparison with T2. You, me, and all the other Terminator fanboys had our hearts broken by this movie when it first came out, but if you watch it again it's not half bad.

    Let's be fair.
  • Bob
I've always thought they should have revealed that the Terminator was modeled after a famous soldier, Major "Dutch" Schaefer who had once battled a predator from outer space in the Jungles of South America.
  • I'm thinking that people liked T4 over T3 only because T4 has more terminators. T4 is complete garbage.
  • T3 is better than TS because it was directed by a talented filmmaker, which is something McG is not. It cracks me up because it's so obvious...
  • rockinrors
    AHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH
    That is hilarious.
    Why?
Why would you reduce Cameron's masterpieces to this?
  • Justen
He sounds like the voiceover in that video in Jurassic Park.
    "dinuhsaws."
  • Buchanan
Indeed it is all Christian Bale's fault. He can't act worth a lick. He peaked at Newsies. He only succeeds because he is dead behind the eyes. Any hooplehead that adds a rasp to his voice could have performed any role that Christian Bale has ever done. He should keep making gems like the one with dragons, because that's around his level of talent. I'm sick and tired of adolescent boys dragging this guy's career on and on and on. Lose the erections over Mr. Bale and allow someone with talent to take over--please.
  • Halberstram
Well this guy obviously never saw American Psycho.....
  • I wish that was in the movie.
  • It actually would make the movie better if it were left in.
  • Egger Buckland
I bought the T3 DVD once. At Walmart for $4. I think it went in the trash soon thereafter though.

Walmart must have bought an ungodly amount of T3 and Minority Report DVD's. I don't shop there anymore, but a few years ago they were a permanent fixture at $4 in the electronics section.
  • jeri
Seems like a joke to me. T3 did have one cheesy scene involving Arnold with some Elton John sunglasses, but otherwise, the tone was completely different than that of this scene.
  • Solid
I don't care what anyone of you internet assholes think, T3 is a comedy classic.
  • That was better than both T3 and T4. COMBINED.
  • tom
There's nothing wrong with this scene at all. The problem with the non- Cameron films are their complete lack of humor. Cameron's a funny guy, as is Arnold. This would have been the scene you would have quoted to your friends after seeing the movie. It's funny, it's interesting- should have kept it.
  • Edward
To be fair, there are moments where T3 tries to be funny but it falls flat. Think ladies night at the bar where Arnold gets his clothes, Arnolds "talk to the hand" etc. Humor would'nt have fit well in Salvation's world so I dont mind it so much. And for what it's worth I think 3 and 4 were missing heart, not humor.
  • Tom
    I'll agree with all that.
  • Johnny Boy
    actually, it was missing Cameron.
  • JKW3000
Anybody who ever thought that Arnold Schwarzenegger's "acting" choices...be they in terms of roles (Twins, Junior) or in terms of interpretation (the Batman Movie That Shall Not Be Named)...anybody who believes he deserves to have an opinion on how he should act...those people deserve to be SHOT OUT OF A CANNON.

    Just...wow.
  • Michael_C
This definitely falls under "so bad it's very existence is amazing." I always thought T3 worked quite well as a parody of the Terminator series and this helps back that theory up quite a bit.
  • Mark
You know you're getting desperate at defending Terminator Salvation when you start bashing T:3 based on scenes that never made it into the film.

T:3 is not a very good film, but it shits all over Salvation, which is astoundingly terrible.
  • That was fucking sweet. Why wasn't that in the movie?

I won't lie, I was entertained by T3 and T salve... Though they didn't make sense at all, I enjoyed them. Please don't kill me.
  • sitrom
    Funniest.
    Shit.
    Ever.

Makes up for those last two films anyhow.

    OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, it's me.

At least we still have the first two films, right?

That's all we will ever need.
  • Michael_W
    OH MY GOD.

    YES.
  • Edward
I just re-watched the first 3 films in the last week. There really is no defending T3. It's such a letdown in terms of the series potential. There is some decent action there but that hardly makes it an enjoyable film. It saddens me to see that so many use soley action/effects an excuse for defending a film now.( cough Transformers 2, cough)
  • daosy
hahah love the 'we can fix it' line..
not that the accent needs fixing, it's hilarious
  • CheshireAna
Hah, I love how his face gets all ">:[" at the end.
  • abergamo
100% agree with Peter on this one. T3 was awful. Salvation was better, but neither were nearly as good as the first 2.
  • thafuck?
    What. The. Fuck
  • Boomer
While this scene is awful and embarrassing there actually was a moment or two in Terminator 3 that I enjoyed, but there was nothing enjoyable about Terminator Salvation. I find it interesting that PETER SCIRETTA was allowed to visit the Salvation set while it was being made and now he defends the movie whenever he can. I almost stopped reading /film and listening to the /filmcast when I heard SCIRETTA defend MCG and say that he was not to blame for any of Salvations issues and that it was more Christian Bales fault. I hope MCG made your set visit awfully enjoyable Mr. Sciretta, because it certainly made me lose any respect I had for you.
  • Kurash
Easy there. Calling someone out is one thing, but in the future try and refrain from being overly bold. That's when you start saying stupid things.
  • Wow... just wow. First of all, in the last 2 months I've gone on 3 sets, and I'm pretty sure you'll be hearing negative thoughts from me on one of those films. I attend many junkets and opps like this where I totally slam the product. A good example is Eagle Eye, where Alex and Bob showed me 30 minutes of the film and I went on to slam the movie hard.

I really don't think Terminator Salvation is that bad. I think the last 30 minutes are horrible, the screenwriting is bad but not as bad as the Transformer films, and the first hour of the film has some pretty kick ass action sequences. This opinion has nothing to do with me going to a set.

As for blaming Bale. Its not all his fault, but read the well written article on CHUD (which we linked in a previous page 2) which chronicles the history of the T4 script and you'll see that the influence of Christian Bale (who turned the film from being a movie about Marcus to a movie about John Connor) and the influence of the internet (which completely changed and ruined the film's ending) had much do do with many of the bad aspects of the finished product.

And for the record, I never said the film was great, I just believe its better than the last film in the series - Rise of the Machines. In my very mini review I wrote "the character development is almost non existent, the pacing is a mess and the dialogue could’ve been written by a 10-year-old." hard to say I gave the film a glowing review...
  • Evan
Obviously, I don't think your set visit changed your opinion of the film. But I still fail to see how Nick Stahl wasn't believable as John Connor... And I have to reiterate what other folks have said. Last act of T3 was amazing. Last act of T4 (aside from the Arnold cameo) was absolutely horrible.

At least T3 knew where it was going. Maybe it was unoriginal, but I would rather a movie actually tell a coherent story with a ballsy ending than have a movie epically fail trying to be original but instead tell an incoherent story with a truly shoddy ending.

Sure, T3 was somewhat of a rehash, but the action scenes are fun. Arnold freaking kicks over an AMBULANCE during the truck chase! That is CLASSIC.

"It cracks me up that people actually tried to defend this movie over Terminator Salvation…"

Too each his own, amigo, but I feel the exact opposite.

[Side note] One lesson learned from T4: don't get in a helicopter with John Connor, or you will die!
