clifton

In this special bonus episode of the /Filmcast, Dave Chen and Devindra Hardawar chat with the incredibly talented Clifton Collins Jr. about his illustrious film career, some of his favorite roles, and his exciting future projects. During this episode, we learned what it feels like to beat up James Van Der Beek, why he changes his name from Clifton Gonzales Gonzales, what it’s like to lose a bunch of weight in an extremely short period of time to prepare for a boxing role, what the mood was on the set of Star Trek, and also, who can play dead better: Clifton Collins Jr. or Samuel L. Jackson? Hit the jump to hear all about it!

Clifton Collins Jr. can be seen in virtually everything under the sun this summer, including Sunshine Cleaning, Crank: High Voltage, and as Captain Nero’s right-hand man in Star Trek.  He’s also in too many other upcoming films to list here, including The Boondock Saints 2. Clifton was recently in Nashville because of his creative collaboration with Zac Brown Band on their Platinum song “Chicken Fried,” which has earned them a double Country Music Television nomination (and a win for USA Weekend Breakthrough Video of the Year!). Clifton shot “Chicken Fried” on his days off from Mike Judge’s upcoming film Extract, which comes out in September.

I love you guys and listen to every one of your podcasts, but this was something else. I've been a fan of Clifton Collins since Capote (for which he completely deserved a best supporting actor nomination) and hadn't realized his body of work until listening today. Makes me want to revisit his films. It was funny that you kept saying that listeners would best remember him from Star Trek. Under the makeup I didn't know he was in the film (or Eric Bana for that matter). (As an aside, considering both of their talents, what a waste.) What a very cool, thoughtful, honest and anything but "Hollywood" guy. Thanks so much for the interview. You do great work.

This post needs more love! I listened to this the other night and Clifton Collins Jr. seems like such a genuine guy. He loves what he does and it impacts his real life, which is awesome. Thank you for releasing this Dave & Devindra, it's actually my favorite bonus episode you've ever done, and one of my favorite /Filmcast moments, period. A big thank you to Clifton if he reads this! Beware, if I ever see I'll be sure to go crazy so that you can tell other interviewers about me. XD

Lame! This stupid new comment system refreshes your browser whenever you leave a comment, causing the /filmcast to start over for me! I really hate this new comments system.

Yes! The music in the intro got me so pumped for CCJ!

Uhh yeah that was just awesome. What a great session with a great actor. Man when he was saying how when the camera is off the Romulans are really keystone capers....he slipped on something and accidentally hit the fire button and the lasers went off so they had to get serious...I just can't express how much I laughed my ass off during that little exchange. Flat out hilarious. David and Devindra nice job as usual. And this is why I listen to the podcast. Seth Gordon. Rian Johnson. Clifton Collins Jr....the list goes on. It's like I am a part of something I love, something that allows me a chance to listen to other people talk like I talk to my friends....a reassurance that it is OK to know who directed some shitty movie from the 80's or early ninties and who John Cazal was and that Mr. Joshua was a complete badass who could hold a lighter under his arm for way too long. Thanks for the hard work Peter...dave...devindra...adam....the podcast is the best.

Best /filmcast evaaaaah!!!! Please do something like this again.

Please, PLEASE, do this with Philip Baker Hall, if you can get a hold of him. My god, that would just be pristine, and it would coincide well with the release of All Good Things [imdb link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1175709/].

I really just bawled watching Collins' performance in Capote. Perry was simultaneously innocuous and the physical manifestation of malignancy. Just killed me, man.

I was wondering when this would show up....
  • Ah man. Clifton seems like a really nice (and funny and cool) guy. Remember him in Rules of Attraction the most. Very funny cokehead in that. That story about Babel is awesome. So many experiences.

Very cool guy. Good job Dave and Devindra. Twas a lot of fun to listen too.
    More?

    peace peace.
