Fame Movie Trailer

Fame

MGM has released the full trailer for Kevin Tancharoen’s remake of the Oscar-winning hit musical Fame. The movie follows a talented group of dancers, singers, actors, and artists over four years at the New York City High School of Performing Arts. I’m not a huge fan of big screen musicals. I tend to like the more cinematic contemporary films which escape the boundaries of the stagey Broadway set-ups, but Fame seems to stick close to the stage. Watch the trailer after the jump and leave your thoughts in the comments below.

A diverse, creative powerhouse where students from all walks of life are given a chance to live out their dreams and achieve real and lasting fame…the kind that comes only from talent, dedication, and hard work. In an incredibly competitive atmosphere, plagued by self-doubt, each student’s passion will be put to the test.  In addition to their artistic goals, they have to deal with everything else that goes along with high school, a tumultuous time full of schoolwork, deep friendships, budding romance, and self-discovery. As each student strives for his or her moment in the spotlight, they’ll discover who among them has the innate talent and necessary discipline to succeed.  With the love and support of their friends and fellow artists, they’ll find out who amongst them will achieve Fame…

The cast includes Asher Book as Marco, Kristy Flores as Rosie, Paul Iacono as Neil, Paul McGill as Kevin, Naturi Naughton as Denise, Kay Panabaker as Jenny, Kherington Payne as Alice, Collins Pennie as Malik, Walter Perez as Victor, and Anna Maria Perez de Tagle as Joy. Their instructors include Debbie Allen as Principal Simms, Charles S. Dutton as Alvin Dowd, Kelsey Grammer as Joel Cranston, Megan Mullally as Fran Rowan, and Bebe Neuwirth as Lynn Kraft.

Watch the trailer in High Definitiion on Apple. Fame hits theaters on September 25th 2009.

Never, and I mean never, remake a movie that has won and Oscar. Despite the fact that the recent trend in remakes makes me sick, I'm willing to go on ignoring it as long as the studios don't violate consecrated ground. While I'm not a fan of the original Fame, it one a friggin' Oscar, a feat that the remake is unlikely to do. My biggest fear is that this streak of remakes will eventually extend beyond 80s horror films and begin to include classics such as Lawrence of Arabia and Casablanca. God help us all when that day arrives.

Come on, it won the Oscars for music and original song category. Not much to butcher there.

I'm wondering about how much of a remake this truly is. there's no mention of "based on" in the imdb credits list?
  • There's no use complaining about remakes you just have to come to terms with the fact that they will remake a lot of movies some of which you love. And the remake doesn't erase the original film no ones forcing you to watch it even if everybody you know runs out on opening day.
  • yeah well, Raheem, I'M FUCKIN SICK OF REMAKES!!!! I WILL always complain about remakes no matter how many fucking bloody remakes those Hollywood studio exec MORONS keep making.

How about you do something about it asshole? You won't do shit and you'll be a loser for as long as you live because you don't have a fucking clue. Why don't you cry some more dumbass? Apparently it's what you're best at.

I don't see the problem. How does a remake have a negative impact on the original at all? If anything it would generate a bit of interest in the first film. Also, since when did winning an Oscar make a film sacred?
  • Probably wont be as edgy as the original and the trailer looks a bit over dramatic but overall it looks better then I thought it would.
  • seriously.

What made the original work so well was how raw and real it felt. This looks too polished.
  • I love the original "Fame." The new one looks good, but I think it would be too much flash and not enough substance.
  • I had no idea this is a remake. I've never heard of the original and from the looks of this one, I think I'll pass thanks.!
  • original movie is a classic by Alan Parker. Shame on you. The remake is bad anyway
  • who needs Fame when there is Glee
  • Let me put forward a resounding meh. Looks generic and uninteresting, IMHO.

Looks good. Parts reminded me of RENT a few years ago, lets hope the final product turns out better than the completed version of RENT.

also lets hope MGM have a hit with this, after all they need the moola!!!
