Josh Peck and Toni Mason Join Red Dawn

Entertainment Weekly has learned that Josh Peck and Adrianne Palicki have joined Chris Hemsworth in Dan Bradley’s remake of Red Dawn. MGM is producing the redo of the 1984 John Milius action war drama about a bunch of Colorado high school students who must run for cover then Soviet and Cuban troops invade their school. The students decide to wage their own guerrilla warfare against the invaders under the banner of their football team, The Wolverines.

The previously announced Hemsworth (best known as Kirk’s father in JJ Abrams’ Star Trek) will be playing Jed Eckert (played by Patrick Swayze in the original), a marine on leave, who leads the group into battle. Josh Peck (The Wackness) will be playing Matt Eckert (played by Charlie Sheen in the original), the younger brother of Jed and the high school’s star quarterback. Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights) will play Toni Mason (played by Jennifer Grey in the original), survivor turned tough girl and Jed’s possible love interest. Red Dawn is scheduled to hit theaters on September 24th 2010.

  • You could go even further and saying he's come a long way from being the fat kid from The Amanda Show (which was far better than Drake and Josh, I have to say)

    everyone except Josh Peck is alright. I've seen Drake and Josh, and he's fucking annoying. But how was he in the Wackness? i've never seen it, but i heard good things about it.

    Man this has been a good week for the cast of Friday Night Lights. First Tim Riggins gets to be Jon Carter and now Tyra is going to be in Red Dawn? Insane.
  • Glad to see the cast of Friday Night Lights getting roles in feature films. (FNL is an excellent show on NBC that was just renewed for 2 more seasons to make it a total of 5, which NO ONE saw coming due to a very small, core audience).

    There are some things that can't just be helped, and saying Wolverine in my loudest voice when talking about Red Dawn is one of them.

  • You know, initially I thought the same thing. But after thinking about it, why not? I despise remakes of great films because it's absurd to think you can equal or outdo the original. But in a case like this, when the first film was pretty horrible to begin with, why not have a second go at it? The bar is pretty low here......
  • An army of Islamist extremists (obviously) invade a small mid-western town. The kids at the local high school, led by a marine on leave, fight back.

    Josh Peck had a part in Drillbit Taylor too. He played the main bully's sidekick. He was pretty good in that.

    its funny that Hollywood want to do a remake of Red Dawn about high school students shooting and killing an army but hollywood wont do American version of Battle Royale because it will offend people cause of school shootings that been happening.
