THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG

Walt Disney Animation Studios has released a batch of new images from The Princess and the Frog. This is Disney’s return to hand-drawn animation, a new take on E.D. Baker’s novel The Frog Princess (which was actually the original title of the film). If you haven’t seen the theatrical trailer, check that out here. The new images that Disney has released are just so beautiful and stunning, they beg to be viewed in high resolution. I’ve included the 4000 pixel wide digital files. Click on any of the images after the jump to view them in super high resolution.

The photo above shows Naveen dancing with Tiana, who has been transformed into a frog, while Ray the firebug provides the mood lighting.

THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG

The Walt Disney Studios continues its fairy tale legacy in animation by taking moviegoers on an all-new “once upon a time” musical adventure. Set in the legendary birthplace of jazz – New Orleans, The Princess and the Frog will introduce the newest Disney princess, Tiana, a young African-American girl living amid the charming elegance and grandeur of the fabled French Quarter. From the heart of Louisiana’s mystical bayous and the banks of the mighty Mississippi comes an unforgettable tale of love, enchantment and discovery with a soulful singing crocodile, voodoo spells and Cajun charm at every turn.

Featuring the voices of Anika Noni Rose (as Princess Tiana), Oprah Winfrey, Keith David, Jim Cummings, John Goodman, Jenifer Lewis, Bruno Campos, Michael-Leon Wooley, Peter Bartlett and Terrence Howard. Directed by and based on an original story written by Disney’s acclaimed filmmaking duo John Musker & Ron Clements (The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules). Scored and music written by Oscar®-winning songwriter/composer and New Orleans native Randy Newman (Toy Story, Monsters, Inc.).

The Princess and the Frog hits theaters with a limited run in New York and LA starting on November 25th, followed by a wide release on December 11th.

    Hello My Baby!

Does that look a lot like Michigan J. Frog?
  • 00Syd
Yes. But so does every other animated frog.

That first picture is just... wow. Stunning. Going to try to make it my desktop's wallpaper.
  • beautiful. I am very excited to see an original 2-D animated movie, finally. it's been so long.
  • shadow
Even if the story is crap, this is the one film I'll go to purely enjoy the visuals.

    the backgrounds are trully stunning
Can't wait for "the art of" book!

This movie is going to be obnoxious culture-masturbation. It's going to go overboard loading it with Cajun "culture" (stereotypes) and make it insultingly wonderful. It's possible to say racist things that are positive, like assuming that all Asians are good at math, and this movie is going to be that for 80 minutes.

Pocahontas was semi-guilty of this but to a less obvious degree.
  • Stereotypes exist for a reason, as does a Cajun culture. To act like different people don't have different backgrounds and different cultures is foolish. There's good and bad in all, but they are different. We need to stop thinking of things like this as "A movie about Cajun people," but rather, "A movie about people who happen to be Cajun," which I think they are doing a decent job of.

But stereotypes often have basis. All Asians might not be good at math, but as a math minor I can say a majority of my class mates are asians. Stop thinking that's racist and just accept it as fact.
  • Dog Doctor
Haha, no, I'm not going to accept stereotypes as facts.

The thing is, Disney IS thinking of this as a movie about cajun people. That's why they made it, so they could have a black princess for their line of princess merchandise and so people would stop calling them racist. "One of my best friends movies is black!"

Disney is too white to accurately portray minority cultures, so their white guilt will make them go overboard to make them look good to the point of it being insulting.

    Word.

I think you should probably see the film before making such assumptions. I not saying your right or wrong but VERY premature with your judgements.

give me a break...i think ur over-analytical...piss off and enjoy it for wot it is. an animated feature :P
  • greycolumbus
This film doesn't seem to break Disney's tradition of horribly design main characters.

I love it! Can't wait to what misery awaits the newest Disney princess. Let's face it, they always get a raw all or nothing kinda deal, but always come out on top.
