Hung Television Trailer

Thomas Jane could finally have his real break-out role. HBO has premiered the (SFW) trailer for Hung, a series in which Jane plays a high-school basketball coach / gym teacher who realizes that he can become a star by exploiting his giant…sexual apparatus. Anne Heche co-stars as his ex-wife, and Jane Adams (Little Children) is aboard, too, as the woman who becomes, essentially, the pimp for Jane’s character. But the most notable creative name is Alexander Payne (Sideways, Election), who directed the pilot and will stay on as executive producer. Watch the trailer after the jump.

Despite the attention-getting title and premise, creators Dmitry Lipkin and Colette Burson insist that Jane’s character’s schlong is the hook, not the punchline. “It has its sexual moments, but the show is very much about what’s happening in the country, how people are trying to survive using what God had given them,” Lipkin has said. Which is an interesting way to phrase that line. Does the series have a Christian concern or subtext? Not an issue if so, but that would be a neat addition to a story that features male prostitution as a salve for financial troubles. Regardless, the sensibilities of Alexander Payne seem perfect for this show, so he’s enough to get my attention.

According to Variety, the series’ first season consists of the 45-minute pilot and nine 30-minuteĀ  episodes, and premieres after Tru Blood on June 28. Keep an eye on the official site for more clips and info.

I WATCHED HUNG AND IT HAS SOME POTENTIAL. HOWEVER, THE CASTING OF HIS KIDS IS HORRIBLE. THEY ARE BOTH OVERWEIGHT AND VERY UNATTRACTIVE. COULDN'T THEY HAVE CAST SOME CUTE TEENS?????
  • So far looks like a 5/10.

Sometimes the best shows look underwhelming at first I guess.
  • Private Video?!...
  • Dirk Diggler ... the series
  • I was intrigued with the premise ever since they announced the show. I want to see it.

Sounds like it'll be able to stand up on its own...pun intended
  • I think it's great TV is getting immoral. It's about time! I want TV that is utterly immoral, talking about real life, beavers rather than Beaver. If you don't like it, go in your toilet alcove, put your elbows over your head, and scream.
  • You sir are doing your part to make Idiocracy come to fruition. I'm not saying I want white picket programming, my favorite show on television is MadMen, where the lead actor lives a lie and cheats on his wife. Both immoral subjects. However the stage for which this is set is the focal point of the entire series. The shows I mentioned before are based on what: killers, drugs, lesbians, insanity. Television is the number one thing associated with America. If these are the programs which dominate our stations, where are we going. Look at the bigger picture.
  • What about nations like Japan that have their children reading manga featuring sex and murder, yet still being considered one of the safest places on earth?

You're no psychologist, that's for sure.

Yeah because life on earth was so much better/more civilized when this so-called "immoral" programming wasn't on. Please.

I would say reality shows like "Brooke Knows Best" show more about our society than fictitious shows that have "immoral" characters.

Okay, does anyone think that the state of TV is getting a little immoral?
Serial Killer who justifies killing others by only killing serial killers...
Trophy wife upper middle class widow selling pot to 'make ends meet'
High school teacher gets a case of the 50's and decides to sell drugs
insane chick with multiple personality disorder, raising a family!
A bunch of L.A. lesbians living life!
And now this. It's bad enough that we glorified and hailed a New Jersey mafia family for six years, and still have the utterly tasteless South Park still on the air but what is our society coming too. It disgusts me.

The highest rated television series in the United States for the last 5 years has been American Idol.

"what is our society coming too"
Watch south park and find out.
  • Bull
Sopranos "glorified" mob life? I think you missed the point. You sound pretty unintelligent, so I can understand why.
  • HollywoodHills
"We" glorified, meaning America. Who feels unintelligent now?
  • Old news but good news.
  • Man friendly means it can't be homoerotic?
  • Why So Serial
Michigan is really making a push to get more films made there. Great tax incentives. And, as stated below, Metro Detroit is very nice. Northern Oakland county is pretty exclusive, even today. Wouldn't surprise me if portions were filmed there.
  • bigolg1975
At least some of the series is shot at Clarkston High School in Clarkston, like the gym and lockeroom scenes.
  • I've always liked Tomas Jane and this show looks like it could be pretty good. Not a big t.v. show watcher, but I think I'll check this out.
  • haha, this looks good.
  • This takes place in metro Detroit? Where's it really shot?

And If this is a hit, does that give Give 'Em Hell, Malone a better shot!? YESSS!
  • Bull
Why wouldn't take place in Metro Detroit? The suburbs of Detroit are actually very nice, it is the actual city that is a dead zone.
  • fisticufflinks
Actually, Even Detroit itself isn't like it used to be. It's gotten a ton better since They moved The NEW Tigers stadium in. It's still a tough town, but it would never live up to the "IDEA" of what pops into the minds of people when the word DETROIT is uttered. The locals laugh about that kind of stuff. It's a big joke and it's something that the locals keep trying to keep out there to scare people and make them seem HARDCORE.
  • Wait ,you mean Eminem is llying to me?
  • The fire scene was filmed in West Bloomfield. They used the actual West Bloomfield Fire Department for it as well. A family member of mine is on the Department there.
  • this looks like it could be good. More pls.
  • That's what she said.
  • The story of a dude and his schlong...
  • I've always thought Thomas Jane was really hot. Yummy.
  • JoShmo
Didnt watch the trailer b/c Im at work(despite the sfw designation lol). Someone tell me how "man friendly" this show is b/c the premise sounds a bit homoerotic.
  • Sounds like someone could be a bit homophobic.
  • Mike
Is that three minutes or thirty minutes?
  • Yeah 3 minute episodes? Pretty weird...

And I hope they tread a fine line if they do do the Christian thing. Like the family is religious so it's hard on them for him to be doing this or something like that. I really don't want to see a show where religion is the answer, and the show doesn't question it one bit.
  • thomas jane is awesome, this looks pretty funny
