FirstShowing attended the Producer Guild of America’s panel on Producing Marvel Movies where Marvel Entertainment producer Kevin Feige revealed a couple interesting bits about upcoming film projects:

  • It’s a “safe bet” that Steve Roger’s sidekick Bucky is going to show up in The First Avenger: Captain America.

  • Scarlett Johansson character in Iron Man 2 has “two sides,” entering the picture as an assistant to Tny Stark, but later revealed as Black Widow. Johnansson is signed up for multiple films.
  • Edgar Wright is writing another draft of the script, which should be finished sometime after he is done on Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.
  • Marvel is planning on announcing another new movie for 2012 within the next few months.

My guess is Ant-Man but with Wright busy  on Scott Pilgrim, an Ant-Man movie isn’t likely to happen anytime soon.  With Samuel L Jackson signed on for a rumored 9 movies, could it be a Nick Fury stand-alone film? Sub-Mariner is another possibility. The Avengers is set to hit theaters on May 4th 2012, and Marvel has been doing May and July releases. So I’m sure the next release might be mid-July 2012. How about Iron Man 3? Iron Man came out in 2008, Iron Man 2 hits theaters in 2010, why not keep up the two year production cycle? It might be possible to shoot a third Iron Man film alongside or back to back with The Avengers movie… What do you think it could be?

I would personally love to see a Marvel Zombies movie helmed by Tarantino...to bad it'll never happen :(
  • wha?
yes. marvel zombies is the best! it is too bad we'd never see a movie made of that. maybe in 10 yrs or so when all the super-hero storylines have been played out there could be a chance.
  • Thank god there having Bucky in the Movie. I hope they have James Ransone play him. I think a Namor film would be kick ass, maybe have Zachary Quinto play him.
  • Khuzud
This just might have the most bad ideas I've ever seen in a three sentence span.
  • icko
    hehehe...vi diesel for namor
  • Much as I'd love a third Iron Man, the quality level is going to be awfully hard to maintain if they rush it. I'm already a little concerned that IM 2 might not be as strong as the first because Marvel demanded a summer 2010 release. I have faith in Favs, Downey and the rest, but you can only ask so much if you want these films to be good...
  • It would be nice if they had already had everything ready for it. Kinda like a back to back shooting of sorts. i know that's unlikely but that would insure that the quality wouldn't suffer in two years from now.

  • Isn't Favreau directing the Avengers movie? If not I've at least heard he really wants to do it. So I don't think it'll be a third Iron Man, but this is still too early to predict anything.

ANTON YELCHIN FOR BUCKY!!!!! Seriously there should be a freakin' fan movement on this. Anton Yelchin for Bucky.
  • icko
i was thinking of joseph gordon levitt for bucky
  • The sequel to 'Incredible Hulk'?
  • I didn't think of that, but I enjoyed the Incredible Hulk and would not be against them expanding on that universe.
  • I think that The Incredible Hulk was vastly underrated. It could be that I am merely thinking about it in comparison to Ang Lee's Hulk, but I thought the performances were fantastic (particularly by Norton). Also, they did set the film up for a sequel with Tim Blake Nelson having the serum drip onto his head and smiling (his character, Samuel Sterns eventually turns into The Leader)
  • Infrafan
Gotta agree. The Leader was a huge setup, not to mention the other ties into S.H.I.E.L.D., Iron Man, and Captain America, I'm not only hoping for a sequel with Norton returning, I'm hoping for his inclusion in The Avengers film. Perhaps the proposed Stark and Ross scene leading into the Avengers teaming to capture the Hulk, only to be met with a greater foe that would later need his assistance in vanquishing after the team comes to realize he's not the threat the government says he is. The ending of The Incredible Hulk strongly suggests Banner was in control of his powers.
  • Renaissance_Man
I hope that there is more than a two year turnaround for the third Iron Man film. The second one is already concerning me a bit considering the larger cast and the short time frame they've had to put it all together. I can't imagine that another two years for the third would do it any favors
  • I'm thinking it should be Ant Man but I think that movie should have already been made. I mean what's been the hold up for it?

I highly doubt they would do a stand alone Nick Fury movie or a Sub-Mariner movie. It could possibly be a cheaper Hulk sequel. I also don't think it would be another Iron Man movie because of The Avengers movie.
  • I'm leaning towards Ant Man as well or something completely of the radar from the Marvel vault.
  • I'm leaning towards Ant Man as well or something completely off the radar from the Marvel vault.

Ant-Man makes sense though he was one of the founders of The Avengers and they have already established Iron Man and Captain America and Thor are already in development leaving out one more member. Not sure if they'd further delay The Avengers to give those working on Ant-Man time to make a really good film.
  • ziggi
    dr. strange!!!!!!!!!!!
  • mangos
it'd be weird if they didn't have Bucky. Marvel needs to slow it down though. 2 superhero flicks a season from them is getting to be a bit much. but they gotta cram em in there for Avengers.
  • von dudenstein
Much as I'd love a Sub-Mariner film, is it really likely in light of the fact that the Fantastic Four series is dormant?
  • Name
The Sub-Mariner could be great. He looks human, so you could get a really buff actor to play him. The problem with Thor is what makes him so great. He doesn't look human. He is a flagrantly, glamorous ideal that transcends ordinary human proportions. He is literally a god, and looks very much like it. He is also the greatest super-hero ever drawn. Silver Age, classic Avengers, of course.
  • Nycmojostorm
Maybe they will stay away from more Avengers and turn to mutants again. Another X-Men origins movie...Gambit?! Storm / Black Panther? Or maybe the New Mutants movie I heard talk about. Either way I'm lovin it. Bring it...but bring it good.
  • Name
X-Men are OK, but they are simply not in the same league as the original Avengers, which is still, hands-down, the greatest super-hero team ever created. Fantastic Four. X-Men. Inhumans. They all pale by comparison. The Avengers are the bomb, and they have been blowing the competition away for over forty years. Wolverine is a spoiled, petulant little boy, with toilet-training issues.
  • MoreDag
With the hundreds of Marvel characters ready to make their feature-film debuts, I have only the highest hopes for the future of cinema.
Don't stop while you're *ahead,* Marvel; ride it out until the Apocalypse - which, paradoxically, you're ushering in with your "slate" of comic-book based feature-films.
  • Name
I'm sorry were we discussing Ingmar Bergman?
  • How far will comic book movie adaptations be pushed before they push too hard and we get stuck with nada for a decade? I feel over saturated with comic book films. Don't get me wrong I love most of them but jeez, news like this feels like scraping the barrel to me.
  • Forget the barrel. Studios are down on their hands and knees, looking for anything that might have spilled on the floor.
  • Travis McGee
How about a Black Panther film? Plenty of actors could portray the King of Wakanda.
  • I'd rather see a Luke Cage film before Black Panther.
  • I'd love to see a Blak Panther and a sequel to the Incredible Hulk, But if I remember correctly, didn't MArvel say they were doing a Runaways movie?
  • jp ftw
If they do a Runaways movie, my day will be made. Well, if they do it well my day will be made...
  • Well if it's Marvel Studios making the Runaways, it's going to be made well so consider your day made my friend.
  • Sparrow
AND Brian K. Vaughn is writing the screenplay? The day has been made.
  • SLEVEN
could be spiderman 5 or daredevil, and I like the idea of a sequel to the incredible hulk
  • jspegele
Marvel isn't doing Spiderman 4 and 5, Columbia is, and I doubt we'll see a DD remake anytime soon, thanks to Bennifer.
  • Palmer
They'd be remiss to not include Bucky. Maybe this unknown film could be something that delves more into S.H.I.E.L.D but that might be wishful thinking. Though I wish it was something dealing with Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos, but since they're more or less using the Ultimate Marvel universe as a template I'm not sure how that would possible fit in with things.
  • filmkid
they can still do Howling Commandos with Ultimate Nick Fury you got to remember Ultimate Nick Fury fought in WW2 plus Marvel can change up the history of the character they even changed the history of Iron Man. Tony Stark was never in war in middle east in the comics he was in vietnam war.
  • it is possible that the film will come out in the fall of 2012
  • Okay let me guess who will play Bucky if Will Smith is cast as Cap...
    Jaden Smith!!!
  • the main actor from the film "The Hurt Locker" was great, I'd think he would be a great candidate for Captain America. I love Will smith and he's a great actor but I really hope they don't put him in the running for Cap!
  • dannyboy
Will Smith wont play Captain America most people know that already its an bad rumor that went out of hand.
  • Lpfanaddy
Edgar Wright is rewriting the script for what exactly?
  • Cool. How long till this "Kevin Feige flaps his gums" post disappears? Was it even up in the first place?
There is no Will Smith rumor, there never was. Riiiight? :)
  • dannyboy
there was an internet rumor of will smith going to play captain america
  • Uhm, yeah. The question was rhetorical. If you knew that and was helpfully annotating my sarcasm, I might like to hire you on to do this for all of my comments.
  • Name
If you knew that and was helpfully annotating my sarcasm?" Shouldn't that be were? You're writing in the subjunctive case, pal.
  • Incredible hulk sequel would be awesome!!
  • I'd like to see marvel revamp the X-MEN and base it on the 90's cartoon... Wolverine, Beast, Jean Grey, Cyclops, Jubilee, Gambit, Storm and Proffesor X... Enough with the origin stories .
