full house movie

John Stamos, who played Uncle Jesse on the 1980’s-1990’s television sitcom Full House, says he’s developing a possible concept for a big screen Full House movie. Stamos told the New York Daily News that he’s “working on a movie idea, but it wouldn’t be us playing us.”

So I guess the concept is more of a remake or contemporary reimagining than a sequel. Stamos said that his idea “would probably take place in the first few years [of the series].” I doubt this idea will ever come into fruition, unless it’s a television movie which acts as a backdoor pilot for a new series.

As a kid, I use to watch Full House. It was one of those television shows you could watch with the whole family. And lets remember, this was back in the days before Televsion grew up. Today we have such awesome programing as 24, Lost, Dexter, The Wire, and The Sopranos. Truth is, I don’t watch any episodic television shows any more. I’m an serial television addict. I need a problem that won’t be fully solved in 30 just minutes. I can’t even imagine a show like Full House would appeal to today’s audiences, nevermind a big screen adaptation.

The opening of the show embedded below is from the series’ pilot episode, and features John Posey as Danny Tanner, instead of Bob Saget. Very strange.

For those of you who might not remember what the show was about, here is a recap of the first episode from IMDB: “When Danny Tanner’s wife Pamela is killed in an auto accident, he finds himself left all alone to raise his three daughters: D.J., Stephanie, and baby Michelle. Fortunately Danny’s hair-obsessed, rock-star brother in-law Jesse Cochran, along with Danny’s flamboyant, cartoon loving friend Joey Gladstone, move in to help Danny raise his girls. On the first day, D.J. runs away, and Jesse and Joey find extreme difficulty and anxiety in changing Michelle.”

Discuss: Now how could they possibly turn that into a movie?

  • This can't be happening! If it does Happen, I will never turn to Full house to relive my child-hood memories, again!
  • D.A.
he should develop it as a modern day R-rated comedy starring all of them. The Tanners all grown up..LOL
  • HA! Cast Bob Sagat, and have him act like has in everything since the 80's. Make jokes about screwing hookers then do a line of coke off the floor.
  • this idea = win.
  • this idea = win.

if this film isn't a parody ... my faildar is detecting a major blip.
  • Name
yea that would be ok i guess.
  • More like best idea ever!!!!!

....psych! No matter how much I love "Full House", a movie will NEVER be more that good.
  • How can you blame him? He lost Rebecca Romijn and hasn't been the same since... poor guy. Let him relive his glory days.
  • Dylan
    Terrible idea.
  • delusional
the guhls are a bit old for the parts but

    jesse- james franco

joey- matthew perry or neil patrick harris

    miley cyrus as DJ

    dakota fanning- michelle

    rebecca - kerri russel
  • Rom
Is he really that desperate for cash/attention?
  • jason B
anybody remember the name of jessie's band? wasn't it jessie and the rippers or something? epic fail, but i'd love to watch the ship go down.
  • Hell yes it was Jessie and the Rippers.
  • Cut. It. Out!
  • How can this possibly turn into a movie? Well, I think that first, mankind has to do something really really awful, like nuking babies or raping kittens, or both. And I mean all of mankind, not just a few people, or just France, I mean the whole world, all at once, have their way with kittens and blowing up babies.

As divine punishment, much like in the plagues of Egypt where all the water was turned to blood, all digital information will turn into this movie. No matter what you try to do, all audio and video you play, will only produce Full House: The Movie.
  • shameless
this guy lost all his cachet after he stopped banging rebecca romijn
  • Rolando
Think about how bad it's got to feel to be John Posey. Your unused Full House opening credits are the butt to jokes. Meanwhile Bob Saget rolls around in residuals.
  • Ugh... how rude!
  • Finkelworth
    worst idea ever?

    psssshhhhhh

    try BEST idea ever.

Jessie and the Rippers 4 life
  • that video above was disturbing. I never seen Full house without Bob Saget as Danny Tanner. That was really creepy, like who is this man with the tanners and what has he done to the real danny tanner?

    lol

But a movie? Doubt it. If they go for it, its probably gonna be a TV movie and be like the growing pains movies.
  • vva
I bet he's pushing for a movie in the vein of the Brady Bunch Movie. Where the family stays the same but it's the world around them that are cynical.
  • I was thinking the same thing. Still wouldn't see it, though.
  • "but it wouldn’t be us playing us.”

What the hell man! I don't wanna see that shit...I would def watch this if the original cast came back, if not, pass! I wanna see life after the house was full...I wanna see if one of the twins turned into sluts or one of the sisters turned into a drug addict or if Joey ever did anything with his life...I mean since everything has to be "dark" now to be interesting why not 'Full House'?
  • Stephen Colbert as Danny tanner
    Jeff Daniels as Joey
    Robert Downey Jr as Jessy
  • This better not fucking happen
  • I love the series, but seriously... a movie adaptation in nowdays? that sounds just stupid
and yeah, must be a cash problem, so Stamos wants to do this sort of thing.
  • Oh yes this could definitely work. How about this, one of the family members die and this brings all the family members back who obviously left on bad terms and they all solve there differences while grieving the loss of uncle Joey to cancer. Of course I'm joking....
  • You had me until "Of course I'm joking..."
  • Yeah I actually thought no one wanted to see this happen since most of the comments are negative but I guess something like the story I pitched could work. I bet they'd have to pay those olsen twins tons of money though.
  • Id like to see them try to get Bob Saget to do thid show again. Has anyone heard how he rips the show apart in his stand-up show? He HATES that show.

  • Worse things have been released on the market recently... and if he get's the twins back wearin' skimpy gear all grown up back in a Full House, hell, I'm IN.
  • Solid
Oh come on. A sweet innocent show like Full House isn't welcome in these times of Dark gritty entertainment. Life's no all about depressing shit is it? I say go for it Stamos!
  • WTF! Has anybody seen "A Very Brady Movie". It did have my main man, Gary Cole, but come on!

    Enough with the remakes.

    STOP THE INSANITY!!!
  • All i have says is ONE WORD ....

    YYYYYYYYYYYYYYIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
  • As awful as this sounds, it is possible. I'm not ashamed to say I occasionally find my self on ABC Family and might watch an episode or two. And come on, if people can watch Two and a Half Men, they can watch this. But it will probably be awful without the original actors. Then again, I really don't care.
  • Two words. Terrible idea.

Can't wait to see this in the $1 bin at stores a couple of years from now.
  • "I doubt this idea will ever come into fruition, unless it’s a television movie which acts as a backdoor pilot for a new series."

While I agree that a Full House movie is an awful idea, I think you're dead wrong. I see it happening. Every old TV show seems to turn into a movie at some point, and why not? It's not an expensive special effects show -- it's a family in a house. It's a cheap film that can be made on a low budget and rake in a good amount of family friendly dollars based on nostalgia and name brand recognition.

Would I want to see it? No. I hated the series.

If I were a studio exec, would I greenlight it? Hell yeah. It's a cheap film that will appeal to nostalgic fans of the TV show and can be brought in under budget and get a PG rating so the kids will see it. Bottom line: A good investment.
  • This might be the most boring movie idea ever.
  • Lawdog
I wish this was the worst idea ever. It isn't even the worst idea this decade. :(
  • chon.
    stupid.
  • Maybe they can add a twist to the concept in taking it from a tv show from many years ago to present day. A lot has changed, so they could reinvent some of it....something genuinely funny would be very nice.
  • If you were a chick who is the one guy that you would sleep with?
  • Solid
Danny. I'd be attracted to his clean cut, smart, stable personality. The father I never had.
  • fullhousefan2344
    BEST IDEA EVER!
  • Captain Molotov
You gotta be goddamn kidding me.
  • Red Mask
When television 'grew up', we lost more of our innocence. Now I wonder w.t.f. is so important about 24, Lost, and so on when so much is happening in the real world.
  • I <3 John Posey
If they do decide to make the movie, I feel it would be best to keep it in its original state with John Posey. He should be in the opening credits and when the movie start Bob Saget fights him to the death. This should be a good chance for John Posey to make up for lost time.
  • MyHouseIsFull11
Dude--John Posey Was In Robocop 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I Think he didn't make it as "Danny Tanner" because John Posey & Dave Coulier had similiar features--like brothers.
So, they bring in this 7 foot tall guy, and that was that.
  • I <3 John Posey
Also, I think it's would be interesting to re-release all of the episodes of Full House as one huge box set featuring John Posey.
