Clash of the Titans Sam Worthington

Update #2: Warner Bros has provided us with high resolution copies of the photos that appeared in Entertainment Weekly and Empire Magazine.

Warner Bros has released the first two production photo from Louis Leterrier’s remake of Clash of the Titans. The two stills feature Sam Worthington as Perseus, “the mortal son of Zeus who was born a god but raised as a man.” Worthington was the best part of Terminator Salvation, and I have high hopes for him in Avatar. Check out both of the photos after the jump. As always, click to enlarge.

Clash of the Titans Sam Worthington

Clash of the Titans Sam Worthington

Helpless to save his family from Hades (Ralph Fiennes), vengeful god of the underworld, Perseus volunteers to lead a dangerous mission to defeat Hades before he can seize power from Zeus (Liam Neeson) and unleash hell on earth. Leading a daring band of warriors, Perseus sets off on a perilous journey deep into forbidden worlds. Battling unholy demons and fearsome beasts, he will only survive if he can accept his power as a god, defy his fate and create his own destiny.

Rounding out the cast is Gemma Arterton (Quantum of Solace) as Io, Perseus’ mysterious spiritual guide throughout his journey; Mads Mikkelsen (”Casino Royale”) as Draco, who takes up his sword to join Perseus’ quest; Jason Flemyng (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) as Acrisius, a one-time king-turned-hideous beast; and Alexa Davalos (Defiance) as Andromeda, a princess doomed to lose her life if Perseus does not succeed.

Clash of the Titans is currently shooting, and is set for a March 26th 2010 release.

Umm, not sure about this. Looks like they borrowed Brad Pitt's Achilles armour and this guy aint no Brad Pitt!
He's actually a bit weedy and not very tall.
He's also too young to play Mad Max, who is supposed to be in his 50's in the story and in any case, Aussie actor Steve Innes (also from Perth!) is pretty much got that one in the bag.

Worthington WAS the best bit about T.Salvation. Wonder if he talked to Cameron about how McG is carrying on with the saga...I'm looking forward for his next appearance...

Sam might be unknown in America, but he's been acting for ten years in Australia. He won
an AFI award for best actor for his role in Sumersault, he's known here as a character actor
and is very well liked and respected in the industry.

  • It seems like Sam Worthington is getting more and more good opportunity on his career. He did a great job on Terminator Salvation.
  • Remake or not, I am officially excited for this movie. Sam Worthington was great in TS, I have no doubt he's going to knock it out of the park with Avatar, and this is just going to further his fanbase.
  • Anti-Septic
Really liked his performance in Terminator Salvation so I expect great things from this movie as well.
  • So is this going to be like a toned down PG-13 epic, or are they going the 300 route and make it absolutely brutal and bad ass? Either way Im totally stoked to see this movie.
  • shadow
Man, that guy can look intimidating.

Hmm, is that Medusa or a Gorgon he's fighting by any chance? Probably not but that side face looks all scaly.
    Looks good so far.

Did Sam Worthington sign a deal with the devil? All of the sudden he's like the new lead man in all sorts of movies?
Well Clash of the Titans looks promising!
  • Hold on...I thought this was a "remake". I know I haven't been keeping up with a lot of movie news as of late, but this story isn't a remake, it's a new tale. Is there a tale I'm unaware of?

Will there be Medusa or the Kraken? Anyone, let me know how this is a remake? I'm not being sarcastic but let me know. ;)
  • agreed, I was all excited that I may see a story that I loved be reborn, then I read the story. Not saying that it can't be a good movie, but don't they normally have to have a couple of movies before you do a reboot and change everything?
  • I rememnber me on the original, I'm glad that they do a remake!
  • Kuro
"vengeful god of the underworld", "before he can seize power from Zeus" "unleash hell on earth" "unholy demons"
How many manichaeist (Christian?) bulls#*t can you force down into the throat of the magnificent ancient Greek mythology?
  • ConcreteLogic
Why is Hades always a villain? People seem to be incapable of differentiating Hades from Satan. Another Holy God vs The Devil. How friggin boring.
  • Agreed. Hades wasn't evil, he was just weird (and which god wasn't back then?). The most evil thing that he did was lure Demeter's daughter away to be his bride, and that was more because he was lonely and she was hot, than out of any evil intent. The first movie actually kinda made sense when it came to Greek Mythology, Hera was upset that Zeus was sleeping around again, and his offspring had to pay the bill. Half of all the stories from that time period came from Zeus's inability to control his wang, none came from Hades attempts to control the world...
  • MADS MIKKELSON FUCK YEAH!
  • im there....hulk worked for me
  • woah! this looks cool. Worthington FTW!
  • Rwhyan
This definitely seems promising, especially with Worthington.

why does the synopsis remind me of the 'hercules the legendary journeys' show? i loved that show and miss me some kevin sorbo.
  • hermie
Jank, good news! You don't have to Miss Kevin anymore, hehe. The big guys over on Twitter posting what he's doing now, in realtime. Right now he's in Baton Rouge shooting a movie!

  • Liking the costume/weapons. That shield looks wicked in an archaic sort of way. I want to see what that elongated ugly hand is connected to.
  • my assumption is that Perseus makes a trip to Hedes and is confronted by the undead
  • In the underworld, they would just be the dead...

They aren't undead until they try to climb up from their graves on the real world. :p
  • He should play Mad Max in the reboot george miller is planing
  • thats an excellent idea..since it would allow Worthington to use his natural Australian accent...I still doubt the news it's live-action...
  • i totally agree, he would make a great mad max. i did like him in salvation, awful movie, but it had some good moments. and i am looking forward to this for some reason, though i'm usually skeptical of remakes. but it has a good cast so far. we shall see.
  • Looks badass in the pic ... and I'll have to agree that he did a great job in Terminator and I think he'll handle Avatar just fine.
