The Twilight Saga: New Moon Movie Trailer

newmoontrailer_1

In conjunction with the MTV Movie Awards, which are pushing the series like mad, the full trailer for The Twilight Saga: New Moon has debuted online at MySpace. This is the first good look we’ve had at the work being done by director Chris Weitz (The Golden Compass, About A Boy) who took over after Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke departed the franchise.

The clip opens with the sort of drama between Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) and Bella (Kristen Stewart) that is the lifeblood of this ’saga’ before moving on to some classic human/vampire conflict and a look at werewolves as envisioned by this series. Watch the embed and get more details after the jump.

This trailer promises more of what we saw in the first film: highly emotional, arguably over-dramatic supernatural stories made to appeal to the young romantic in everyone. That formula didn’t work for me the first time, and this doesn’t instill much hope that anything will be different in round two, especially given what this trailer displays with respect to werewolves. There just aren’t many good werewolf movies out there, and if this example — Taylor Lautner’s character undergoing a CGI change from man to wolf over just a few frames of film — is what we’re going to get across the board, then I’ll pin my lycanthropic hopes elsewhere.

I did get a laugh out of the trailer’s conflict between Jasper Hale and Bella. Why? Because Jackson Rathbone, who plays Hale, has evidently been cast in Lords of Chaos as Varg Vikernes, a legendary Norwegian black metal musician who was just released from jail after serving 16 years for burning churches and murdering another musician [via ScreenDaily]. Casting a Twilight actor as one of the most notorious figures in the musical underground is great. It gives fans of the series something odd to discover, and is the final punishment for a man who’s done some truly horrible things.

  • k-stew is teh hot.
  • do you guys think that New Moon will make more money at the box office than the first Twilight film? The trailer looks okay, i guess. Not a Twilight fan, but I'm not a hater, either.
  • gah
the first wasnt even that huge of a hit either (well, i guess considering the budget was so low) but it wasnt comic book movie big. It's fan base is so vocal though it makes it seem like its a bigger franchise than it is. no matter how hard you try you arent going to get many males or older people into the multiplex
  • I actually think that New Moon will make alot more at the Box Office because now that they're out there and they've gained quite a few fans in a year, they should get more with this effort.
  • memarj
hell im 40 years old and i cant put the books down. i know the first movie was not as original as the book but it did bring the characters to life in the books < i mean for those of us who had not read the books yet>. granted it is not the same as the movie the book will always be way better, but this movie cycle is helping promote those gorgeous faces in your mind.
  • memarj
P.S. i also cant wait for this new movie i can already tell they shuffled things around <because i am reading new moon now> but i don't care i am just tired of twilight the movie and new moon trailers. i just need to see some more now............
  • I think it will make more money...Found this article: http://www.examiner.com/x-4908-Twilight-Examiner~...

New Moon trailer had over 5 MILLION views in 24 hours!! The Twilight trailer was only 3.4 million. Of course that's a lot of Twilight fans watching it repeatedly..even still, that's a LOT of views. Being a fan of the series myself, I went to see Twilight mulitple times in the theater even though I was hugely dissappointed in the movie itself. I went with different groups of friends who also loved the books and wanted to see it. Now just imagine if Twilight had actually been a WELL made movie!? I'm hopeful from this trailer that New Moon will be a lot better than Twilight was... and if so... this will make a LOT of money!!!
  • Rich
Dude. That CGI for the wolf looks HORRIBLE!!!
  • agreed
  • Emm
lol as for the quality, way better than the first. It actually has color, than that awful blue color palette that Hardwicke on it. apart from that, eehh, its alright?

I guess we'll have to patiently wait for The Wolf Man for any of our werewolf needs. have any news on that one?
  • Did Peter make you post this as your first story ?
  • I offered, actually! Mostly because I saw that it was available and needed a break for packing for E3. Not really how I'd have chosen to begin, but whatever...
  • I offered, actually! Mostly because I saw that it was available and I needed a break from packing for E3. Not really how I'd have chosen to begin, but whatever...(I also like promoting the 'Twilight actor as Varg Vikernes' thing, because I truly think it's funny.)
  • Good stuff my friend, Welcome.
  • Why do I get this sneaking suspicion that we've just seen the only remotely interesting scene in the entire film (dude going wolfy on a vampire)? Has anyone actually managed to stomach the book enough to find out if anything other than emo-vampire scenes will happen? I know we're hardly going to get Underworld-level vampire on werewolf action, but please tell me there's at least SOME fights...
  • Frankenstein comes out from no where kills all the vampires and wolfs, then he falls in love with the girl.
  • its mostly just emo :/
  • There are 2 real fights (one happened 'off screen' in the books but I've read they added it to the film for obvious reasons) and the whole tense ending where there is threat of execution hanging over some of the characters... I'm really excited by this trailer, actually. I think Chris Weiz is going to do a WHOLE lot better with the series than Catherine Hardwicke did
  • oh and it's possible they've added in new conflicts/fights to keep it more interesting... the '2' thing is what I know from the books/twilight gossip sites
  • Wow that's one deep paper cut. And what gives with just letting it bleed out? Someone's asking to get eating.

Oh yeah and she's cool with having some random dude come up and touch her like nothing? Sounds good to me!
  • It's not some random dude, he's a vampire and if she tried to run he'd eat her.

You guys need to stop dissing Twilight. I'm personally not a huge fan, but I've read the series and, though the writing style may not be amazing, the plot actually is. The movie wasn't bad, if you haven't read the book. As for an adaption to the book, it just butchered the storyline. Regardless, Twilight isn't that bad, you just hate it because most of you are guys and are afraid to open up your mind for half a second?
  • Can't wait! Looks even funnier than the first!
  • ouch!
  • Joe
Oh dear god I just did a spit-take at that horrible werewolf. I'll stick with Up for my depictions of members of the Canis genus (never thought I'd say that)

Due to the law of diminishing returns, the lukewarm reception of the first film, and the fading buzz of the series in general, I'm predicting this maxes out at $150m tops (especially since it should have more competition)

(Stephanie Meyer stole the plot from Beauty and the Beast: A bored girl who's name starts with Bell runs away and meets a mysterious person she becomes drawn to despite his warnings for her to keep away. They eventually realize their love for each other and it becomes easier for them to have a relationship in the end)
  • Doesnt look that bad.. The Jacob story is mych better then seeing Edward and his crew.
  • Doesnt look that bad.. The Jacob story is much better then seeing Edward and his crew.

Why all the hate for Twilight?

I taught it was a great comedy.

    This one looks even funnier.
  • Man, Samburg's cut looked alot better. Vampires Teen Wolf. I smell box office gold. Was it just me or did Pattinson and the chic from the movie look and sound like they were on Coke?
  • My brother forced me to watch a clip from the Awards last night (I spent my time more productively by watching the Wings beat the Pens again) and she looked completely high in the clip. Messing up her hair. Stumbling slightly up to the stage. Dropping her golden popcorn. So they could be on coke.

I think you guys can't get past the jealousy that girls and yes women young and old think it is the best love story in a long time. I think the movie is going to be awesome. Sure the wolf didn't look as real as it should have but that happens in alot of movies. It is all in how you want to perceive it. I think you guys for the most part could learn a few things from Edward, like the way women really want to be treated. Most guys want to treat you like you don't really matter and that your just a piece of meat. He is exactly the kind of guy we have been looking for, why do you think so many women have went crazy over him. Maybe Rob Pattinson isn't exactly like Edward but to betray him so well he has got to have some of that gorgeous man in him for real. Maybe if you tried harder you wouldn't have to come down on him so much. The movie being funny, no way in ----- you figure it out.
  • Joe
Women love men who can potentially go off and kill them at any moment?

Wait, we know that already! If we didn't Lifetime Channel wouldn't exist!
  • Josh R.
    Amen Connie. Amen.

I am an intense fan of the books, and although I wasn't originally a fan of the first movie, the more times I watched it, the more I began to pick up on the actors' ways of doing things. I now love the first movie almost as much as I love the books, and now, the more times I see this trailer, the more I'm liking it.

Speaking as a guy, I completely agree that more of us should at least attempt to be like Edward in the way that he loves Bella. He makes every attempt to make her life better, and when he sees his very presence as a danger to her, he removes himself from her world completely. (It didn't really have the intended effect, but never mind that for now) He is what every sane guy on earth should aspire to be. (aside from the whole blood drinking thing)

In regards to the trailer, people, please stop hating on it so much. It's just a teaser. several things will probably be changed between now and the release of the movie. Yes, Kristen and Rob look like they're kind of dead in the break-up scene, but who wouldn't look dead after leaving, or being left by, the person that you want to spend the rest of your existence with?

Finally, Jacob's transformation. I agree with some of you that it looks a little on the cartoonish side. I was expecting a little more edge. However, once again I'll say that the more times I see it, the more accepting I become of it. They make him a little more fierce by the actual release date, and they might not. I personally will just expect what I see here and be happily surprised if they decide to make him a little tougher. As to the whole debate on how big the wolf form is, keep in mind that there are no objects close to him that can show how big he actually is. Also, if you've read the books, you'll know that through the series, Jacob grows between 6-12 inches by the time Breaking Dawn comes around, and that size change is reflected in his wolf form. Besides all that, when the people of Forks see Sam Uley in his wolf form, they think that he's just a large Black Bear from a distance, and from what I see in the trailer, that's about the size that the wolf is right now.

Anyway, those are my thoughts for today. I hope this helps some of you to form more solid opinions of this trailer, even if you end up disagreeing with me.

Erm, more like Edward? The crazy controlling boyfriend who won't let her even talk to another guy? The boyfriend who locked her in a car so she couldn't go and see another boy? The boyfriend who broke into her room to watch her sleeping? And how the book portrays Bella as having no existence without him? via her going unconcious when he leaves.

Yeah, that doesn't sound crazy and controlling and obsessive at all. *rolls eyes*

I don't mind if girls like the love story, it's fantasy after all. But to actually claim that it's the kind of romance people should expect in real life? Or that girls should hope to get a boyfriend like Edward? Good god no! That's what bothers me about teh books the most, so many impressionable young girls are reading it and thinking it is what they should expect in real life. An older man (edward is nearly 100yrs old remember?) that will completely control everything they do. Erm, great?
  • Yeah its this stupid hope for 'romance' that makes all these girls grow up to wear mansuits and think no man is good enough for them.
  • Er, maybe they just don't want a pervert like most guys tend to be?
  • Boon
I have not seen the first movie, I will not see the second one. I shall pray they do not make anymore. And Rob Pattinson did not "betray" Edward, he "portrayed" the character....unless he actually pooped on the original written character. I have no problem with romance, or "love stories", I also have no problem with fantasy/scifi... (syfy....holyshit.) stories. Again, I have no reference to these stories besides the trailers, and what people I know have said. According to them, this is neither. Infact I totally agree that it seems like a Beauty and the Beast rip off.....Starring emo fucktards....whew, I really tried not to call anyone a fucktard in this post.....so close.
  • Connie = Dumb
Is this girl serious, wow look at what a movie can do to a person and how they think a fictional movie character who is a vampire, how men should be like him....wow thats just sad.
  • Pbbbbbbbbt. What a turd.

    Great article, though. Nicely put.
  • Rissa
lol awww whatever haters lol.....I thought that wolf scene looked pretty badass....It looks like it will be better than the first one, because a lot more action in it...I cannot wait til it comes out...and what is up with the criticizing? They aren't actually supposed to be "Werewolves"like you would think of...more like Shapeshifters which can take wolf form kinda similar to that movie Blood and Chocolate..but bigger wolves lol...the wolf looked pretty, I like the new colors in the new movie, it looks more natural than the first one...lol
  • raz
If you dont like something it doesnt mean that your hating. the trailer is horrible, the acting looks terrible. did you see that lame eyebrow arch she did when she told him to kiss her? UGH!
  • Nick
Well it's not THAT bad... but still bad.
  • As one of the many crazy twilight fans I have have to comment...

First off, the first movie was shit...but for something to go from imagination to right in front of you is pretty cool, no matter what you are in to.

As for this movie, im really wishing its better, but from seeing the trailer I'm not to sure, Kristen and Robert still cant act and the freaking CGI was TERRIBLE. If this movie sucks as much balls as the last one, i'll just keep my head in the books.
  • That cgi wolf was BAAAAAAAAAAAAAD.
  • TeenTwilighter
