2 Minutes of GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra

GI Joe

MTV has a new 2-minute clip from GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra which further confirms what I’ve been thinking for months now - this movie is going to be absolute garbage. (This is an expanded version of the 45-second video we posted on Friday) Watch the clip after the jump, and unleash your negativity in the comments below.

I'm not a huge fan but I saw it and it was good, and theres gonna be a sequel..... too bad for all you negative bitterballs that judge books by their cover, go jump off a building or something.
  • This looks like a LOT of fun.

Awsome! I want to pay a million dollars to be the first to watch this MOVIE!
  • This article written by the same man who liked terminator salvation. lol

    DUMB ASS HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Chris
I think it looks good enough for a summer blockbuster movie...
  • Rage
As a fan of the original series, comics, etc I am deeply offended by everything in this piece of *** But I find more offensive that line 'real american heroes' just before doing campy crap, I take that as a personal threat. A$$holes!!!!

The suits make all of the JOES look like Master Chief from Halo. The only thing that looks good in this movie is Sienna Miller ;)
  • Traie
I agree with exorcissy, easy on the nerd hate for this project. Everyone (including the writers for this site) are so determined to watch this movie fail. It´s a big dumb summer movie based on a cartoon/toy line, see it or don´t. And when did Transformers become a high mark for summer blockbusters? Transformers fan or not, you have to admit that flick, while slick is pretty bad. The only reason I want this film to succeed is because Hasbro is hedging their bets on the success of the film, if this fails, the toy line as we now know it may be in jeopardy and I, like many want the toys to continue for at least a few more years in it´s current state before it inevitable rebooted to be more EXTREME and full of ´tude (again).

I'm now even more interested to see this film. You know what that means though. I unlike so many others in this day and age still possess the mental capacity to see a film and am able to try and enjoy for it is no matter which particular genre it falls into. That just the price I must pay for having a case of non-prejudicial COMMON FUCKIN' SENSE as opposed to the variety of "film lovers" that now populate the internet. ASSHOLES!
  • pppp
Bad, but better than Bay's action. At laest you can understand what's going on,
  • trulyrough
Even with the suits they still fail to capture the bad guys and save the Eiffel. Well done Joes.
  • Amon-Re
I think its far less painfull so far that bumblebee urinating on a persons head, and the crappy sam's parents jokes in Transformers. There are hundress of worse films out there.
  • nope. not gonna pay to see that. ever.
  • Infrafan.
That scene where they they enter in their suits reminds me of the "You get the ice. I'll get the Iceman." from Batman & Robin. Plus, they fail? Yo, Joe? I just can't imagine paying to see this, even with Ray Park as Snake Eyes.
  • jason B
as cool as it is to have park as snake eyes - they even managed to fuck that up; the suit they gave him is a fucking abortion. people get pissed at micheal bay - who i really dig - so i'm gonna start the 'fuck stephen sommers campaign'.
  • C'mon Peter, this is badass
I know this is gonna be shit in the end.. but its gonna be good shit (same as mummy 1)
  • It doesnt look 'that" bad.

But no actual Cobra Commander and this gay super suit bullshit for the joes really kills it.

Did they really need to add that shit?

The Joe's personalities and costumes is what made them so great.

I cant imagine Shipwreck wearing that shit with his parrot
  • Dumb question from the back of the short bus: why are the GI Joe guys wearing those suits when the Cobra folks seem to be able to do all their destruction suit-free?
  • jason B
ha! brilliant man. now why the fuck couldn't the people making this film come to the same conclusion as you?! i think you should post your question every day on every single gi joe thread from now until the film bombs - if you don't i will.

seriously bud, wtf were they thinking when they greenlit this film?
  • wingzero6475
rite after "real american heros"dodging incoming missiles, robot lookin suits, slow motion...............ummmm transformers much??????
  • darkone
what if the campaign is misleading and they try the suits the first half of the film see that they dont work and become their normal selves to fight cobra, and by advertising the suits it doesnt spoil that plot change?
  • I don't know what's worse: the logic of throwing off your helmet before jumping onto a helicopter, just so you can mug for the camera, or the editing that cuts from him running towards the chopper at full bore to a shot of him accelerating from a standstill.
  • It reminds me off all the crazy situations that all of my GI Joe toys would get into. Except with crappier cgi.
  • EDB
screw all the haters... shit looks good
  • I just caught a 30 seconds preview on TV for this movie. That was way enough for me. I don't even need to see that 2 minutes. My eyes are still bleeding!
  • shinobi 9
i find it watchable but done at a sub par level. way to cgi with the suits and hellicopter. way to go production team.
  • they got the futuristic ship in the trailer from Terminator.
the body armor/suits from a game called Crysis.
the scene in the streets dodging missiles from Transformers.
there are a couple other things that are taken straight from other franchises i just can't remember them right now.
    have some originality geez
  • Mike
Yeah, because the GI Joe comics, action figures, and cartoons didn't/don't have futuristic weaponry and vehicles, characters that could flip out of the way of bullets (sic: lasers) and crazy costumes. What is it exactly that you guys want? A dark/gritty/EDGY war flick? I mean, come on. This is popcorn fun and it's cartoony and corny and ridiculous and I wouldn't want a GI Joe movie any other way. I'm way more stoked on this than Transformers 2.
  • KyleK
Why all the hate on these clips? I think it looks like some really cool summer flick.
  • Mike
I don't really get the negative backlash. It's a movie based on an awful cartoon based on action figures based on a semi-mediocre comic book with a high level of nostalgia. I was a huge GI Joe fan as a child and this is exactly what I would've wanted to see at age nine. As an adult, it makes me feel young again. The "...real American heroes" line made me grin from ear to ear. There is nothing "bad" about this, and if you go into GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra with extraordinarily high expectations that it will be a legitimately good movie you were fooling yourself from the moment you started driving to the theater.
  • I'm sure I'll see this at some point. Most likely after it hits DVD and I'm really, really drunk.
  • JKW
It's the suits, those accelerator things. I mean, this seemed like a reasonably mediocre action flick, the kind that wouldn't suck too much because it had enough testosterone-fueled action to justify it. But those suits....just....so....crappy.
  • RPK
Agree 100 percent. The suits kill the whole thing. EPIC FAIL.
  • I love how the bandwaggon transformers haters still complain about it in a GI Joe movie.

    sad.
  • Jayce
    Lame.
  • Rorschach
if anyone is a halo fan they stole the armor from odst's.
    its exactly like it
  • Those robot suits look fucking horrible! It's hard to believe a 45 second clip could make me cringe so much. Fuck, Stephen Sommers ...I wish he'd have taken on some other movie to make crappy and left GI Joe alone.
  • COULD be a decent ACTION flick, but those suits are dumb.
  • wingzero6475
if ur gonna atempt to quick senseless funny moments they should at least be funny.....
  • musicsoup
kyle, that's honestly the most clever thing i've heard from this talkback. well done. i like that. i may borrow it.
  • Kyle K
Great, now we get to watch C.G.I. Joe
  • RedLeader43
Not only does it suck; not one second of that said "G.I. Joe."
  • jeremy
    that is so amateur.............wow
  • Palmer
Barely heard a Russian accent out of Miller and those suits just look horrible.
  • jason B
i cannot believe hasbro signed off on this. i was never expecting 'the thin red line', but they didn't have to allow sommers to do this.

i always love the transformers/bay bashers: they know absolutely nothing about filmmaking, and seem to have this insane notion that the transformers cartoons from the 80's were as grand, competent and as noble as robotech or something. the cartoon and the toys were just plain awesome fun, and the movie has wisely added a sense of drama to that universe. we're lucky that bay gives as much of a shit as he does - otherwise we could have ended up with something like this gi joe crap - or worse yet, they could have kept the robots their 'human-esque' faces! ROTF looks epic, and i cannot wait for the gi joe reboot in about 7 years - sans sommers, and pretty much everything else in this film - except for fucks sake give ray park a new snake eyes outfit!
  • musicsoup
bay's films always make great trailers, too bad the movies are never as good. and i probably know more about filmmaking than you ever will. so, i can say with great confidence, it's not that we expected Robotech or even RoboJocks (are you old enough to remember that movie?) but bay doesn't have to be an offensive racist. The black twin JarJarBots "Nah, we don't do much readin'!" "It's upgrade time!" Come on. We're smarter than that. I hope.
