Paramount Pictures has sent over high resolution versions of the two photos released last week for M Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender. They have also been nice enough to send us the official release of the Dev Patel snow photo, which somehow leaked online last week.

The Last Airbender Big

The Last Airbender big

The Last Airbender

Based on the hugely successful Nickelodeon animated TV series, the live-action feature film is set in a world where human civilization is divided into four nations: Water, Earth, Air and Fire.

The Fire Nation is waging a ruthless, oppressive war against the other three nations. The film’s hero, the reluctant young Aang (Noah Ringer), is the “Last Airbender” — the Avatar who, according to prophecy, has the ability to manipulate all of the elements and bring all the nations together.

Aided by a protective teenage Waterbender named Katara (Nicola Peltz) and her bull-headed brother Sokka, Aang proceeds on a perilous journey to restore balance to their war-torn world. Dev Patel plays the Fire Nation’s evil prince Zuko. Exiled from the Fire Nation by his father, Zuko is sent to capture the Avatar in order to restore his honor and right to the throne.

The Last Airbender is being targeted for a July 2nd 2010 release.

YO this series was kickass, and until you watch you wont have any idea how much this potential this film has. M night has had a bad streak but im sure as hell going to the theatre to check this out, if he does it right (which he damn well better) this movie will be AWESOME!!

"Did they give this to Shyamalamalan as one of those "you-can't-possibly-fuck-this-up" projects?" WELL HE DID
  • angryrealavatarfan
Yeah we all know the casting sucks everyone is pissed, Zuko doesn't even have his pony tail or look anything like he is suppose to HAIR WAS IMPORTANT IN THE CARTOON BUT I GUESS M NIGHT MISSED THE CLUE !!! REAL FANS ARE NOT GOING TO SEE THIS!

PS. Avatar should not be a DARK crappy movie like these show
  • Sourdog
What a B>S It is not a surprise to me to see the joke this time with this movie! Film makers do whatever they please cuss and guess what??? We need to swallow it. If you do not agree with the cast, just protest by not going to the movies to see it. I will do that as a punishment for this lack of respect!!!
  • KZ
awh he's so cute^^ he looks like he's 8 in the pic though...
  • jojobing
What happened to Zuko's scar and his ponytail? Aang looks ok, but why is his arrow black? I'd also like to see pictures of Sokka and Katara

I like the idea of making The Last Airbender movie and everything. Of course its not going to look JUST like the anime, but so far I think they gotten close to the characters and everything. Voices will be different, so will some acting because animation is made to be prefect. With people, it can have some flaws but thats was a live action movie is about. Bringing the series to LIFE. Lets just hope that it isnt another DBZ thing, because when I saw that trailer I imediately thought that it was messed up. The casting was wrong and it seemed like the story was all weird, almost nothing like the series. As far as Last Airbender casting goes, I think it just almost prefect. Noah is like prefect, and so what if he's white or asian, as far as I know its a good match up with Aang.

I am anxious for film ,,...
  • juliogar
Wasn't Zuko bald in the pilot of avatar?
  • Brett
I'm sorry but this already looks like crap...they may have good effects and acting but the actors look nothing like the characters....Zuko isn't middle-eastern and Aang isnt some fat white boy...plus you can't even see the arrow...I think the cartoon is gonna be wayyyy better.
  • it's looks great:)

    People do not nag!!
it is difficult to find people who seem precies on cartoon figures!!
I hope that the film is nice!!
    byee , avatar fan
  • Christina
i dont know if anyone has noticed or not but Zuko has a ponytail in the beginning. Dev Patel does NOT have a ponytail in these pictures!! The director is already screwing it up!!!
  • Aft
God... I hope M. Night Doesn't F this one up.... If he doesn't it will be quite a... twist.
  • bebimarie
I didn't watch the series 24/7 but i did watch and last time i checked there was no white people! WTF?
Ang was 12 and Katara was his love interet this 8 year oldboy looks like he shouldn't even think about girls and katara looks way older.
IDK how i feel about this.
  • Vee
i think the cartoon is still better
  • Vee
everyone looks so clean. their armer looks brand new. and Dev Patel looks like a dweeb
  • Rizen
i like the Dev Patel photo just to be clear, I'm not overwhelmingly happy with his casting but i think the kid has some talent and he might be the only one in the whole movie that i will save my judgment on. i'm still wondering something. Why does every bad guy in the movie have to be brown?

    Aasif Mandvi as Admiral Zhao
    Shaun Toub as Uncle Iroh
    Dev Patel as Prince Zuko
Cliff Curtis as Fire Lord Ozai

.....while the three main leads are being played by Caucasians:

    Noah Ringer as Aang
    Nicola Peltz as Katara
    Jackson Rathbone as Sokka

*sigh* all this film is doing is reinforcing stereotypes for Americans :(
  • Jezzykuh
Hey, Meridith! I think i found his scar. It's that little bruise under his left eye. Like maybe Poppa Ozai popped him a good one and it lasted throughout a year and a half of banishment.

BTW, I don't think that was paramount.com posting. Suits are stupid, but not THAT stupid!

That racebending.com site is not with us. It is very obvious some idiot (most likely someone from the other side) is impersonating racebending.com to make us look like a bunch of idiots.
  • realracebending
Just want to say the one saying they are racebending.com does not in any way represent us. Just ignore him/her
  • paramount.com
We have tried to accommodate non-white actors into our movie and still, no one is happy. We should have just left it with our original beautiful white cast but then everybody was up in arms about our unintentionally racist casting. Nothing's wrong with the current casting! Brown people are the villains. Suck it up! No one would believe it if White people were the villains when there are Brown folk in the cast. Yes, there's Yellow folk in the cast as well, but they're background noise. The villain would have been a gorgeous shade of white if people didn't complain about the original casting.

i agree. if every asian in a movie has to be a kung-fu master then every white person should be a fucking cowboy
  • siin
    "bull-headed brother Sokka"
    Waahha?
Sokka isn't bull-headed, if anything Appa is. but Sokka
  • meredith
Love the show, already hate the movie. What are these people thinking!!! The kid id too at and zuko dosnt even have a freakin scar
  • kel
Yes he does. (His left, your right...on his temple.) It's just not very prominent which is a bit rubbish.
  • Sin City. The only asian in a movie was a killer and sword master (oh! the stereotypes!!! how come all roles asians can get in hollywood are swords master or kung-fu masters!! i hate those stereotype!! every single movie that has an asian as a kung-fu master is bad by definition). And she even had a shuriken shaped like a german swastika!! Can it get more offensive that that? Of course i haven't watched the movie, but due to reasons listed above it can't be good.

Even "Up", which hit the theaters this week is racist -- it features asian boy who looks stupid and inferior to some white old guy. I didn't watched "Up" because of just that (and am not gonna to -- i won't -- the movie is bad cause it's racist and that's it).

This practive needs to be stopped. We must stop Hollywood from doing this. We must hire lawyers and bring multi-million suits for every second movie they're doing becase every other movie they make is a obvious and offense in our faces.
  • The Old White Guy is exactly that. OLD and filled wit knowledge to gve to the boy.

The boy looks to be SEVEN years old.

Did you want another stereotype instead?

A SEVEN year old Asian genius?

The way you present yourself does not seem to be Asian.

    Are you even Asian>?
  • I'm asian and now they're going to destroy what was going to be the best thing that Asia could give to USA and a rest of the world. I would never got my self interested in a show if it hasn't featured people who look like me (slanted eyes, tan), because it just would be deep enoough.

Take hits of the last years.

Transformers? They're making an apaptation of originally japanese-made show, and they don't have a single asian in the cast???... Stupidissimo.

Dark Knight? All asians that are in the movie are villains (that mob bookkeeper and chinese cops). Stupid movie.
  • You are presenting the people at Racebending.com as a bunch of idiots.

We do not talk or post in that way.

I will be contacting the people who set up the website along with the admins.
  • We, asians, are greatly offended by these wrecthed movie (which i'm not gonna see i will tell everyone not to).

Zuko is supposed to be asian and asian only. Indian doesn't cut it!.. Indians are poor replacements for asians, yes, MNighty i am talking to you.

And Aang is supposed to asian too. Yet he played by some texan white boy. How stupid can one be to not to get it?

At least now that we know how he looks like we (offended asians, protesters and members of racebending campaign) can find him in real life, talk to him, and make him not to destroy his life with involvement in this stupic pile of crap that this movie is going to be (no need to look into crystal ball to know it: it was destroyed the moment casted their first non-asian actor in what was supposed to be all-asian cast).

Katara and Sokka are supposed to be asians as well. Come on! Everyone are!

Only racists can think that there is a place for a single non-asian actor in this movie.

Apparently, that is exactly who all of the crew of this horrible movie are.
  • Kel
It's based on a world at war. Don't you think that a world would have many differant ethnic varieties. It's just the general culture and look of the series that makes you think everyone should be Asian.

    Lighten up.
  • donkno
Asian people make up the majority (about 4 billion out of 6 billion) of the people on the planet. They aren't one ethnicity: they are a whole bunch of different ones. The producers didn't have to force through this so-called extra diversity. What they're actually doing is trying to justify white actors taking the main heroic parts that were originally Asian. They wrote on the casting sides themselves "Caucasian or any other ethnicity" for the main actors. And then when it came time to casting extras and recasting the villain, they didn't have any trouble asking for actually Asians.

And the characters ARE Asian. Just because they didn't come out and say "I'm Asian!" doesn't mean they aren't. There is so much Asian influence in this show, that it's hard to argue that they aren't. What makes you think they're not Asian? Because they don't have slanty eyes and speak un-accented English?
  • Citizen
Wow, only asians can play these parts, eh? Indian doesn't cut it? There is nothing in the show that says anything about the ethnicity of the characters. I think that the only racist here is you, a true offended, protesting, member of a racist campaign.

Comments like yours are reasons why you are a sad, sad person who won't go outside of your own perceived "asian community" for friends. I feel sorry for you.
  • donkno
He's not a member of the anti-casting campaign. The campaign understands that Dev Patel is Asian. What the campaign is protesting is the fact that the producers actively sought Caucasian actors (they wrote "Caucasian or any other ethnicity" on the casting sides) over any other ethnicity. But when it came to casting extras and recasting the villain, they suddenly didn't have any problems finding Asians. They turned a show that expressed racial harmony into a show where white heroes are going to save the passive "Asians and Africans" from terrorists.

And the characters ARE Asian; just because they didn't come out and say "I'm Asian!", doesn't mean they aren't: they have Asian names, wear Asian clothes, read an Asian language, eat with Asian utensils, do Asian martial arts. The show has Asian architecture and Asian philosophy. There is so much Asian to these characters, that it trumps any other possibility that they are white.

Please actually read racebending.com instead of listening to this poser.
  • Bobby Lee
Im asian and i think an asian cast would be horrible! They cant act and the ones that could act have bad asian accents!!
  • Helooo

    There are Asian Americans available.

    14 millions Asian Americans
    and 4 Million Native Americans.
  • james taylor
I'm so FUCKING excited about this movie!!! I really hope M. Night doesn't fuck it up...
  • Gertie-Wallace
Sorry...but in that last picture, The only thing I'm paying attention to is the guy next to Patel. While everyone else is acting all serious, That guy's fiddling with his helmet.
  • Book Worm
Lol, yes. I love the expression on his face.

"How does this thing work again?"
  • mariel
I love Dev Patel and he looks good in these pictures (I was worried he wouldn't look like a bad ass enough) but the boy who is to play I guess the last airbender (I do not watch the show) looks really really young, he looks at most 8 and isn't the character suppose to be I'm guessing like 12 or older. It just seems to be wrong in how young he seems
  • I've only seen maybe half the episodes of the anime, but that guy as Zuko? What?! NO! The guy to play Aang is perfect, why would they mess Zuko up?
  • The boy playing Aang is the wrong race and wrong martial art.
They could have picked Brandon Soo Hoo.
You can even look up Perris aang audition and find Perris Aquino. That kid was bbetter
  • extensa5420
Brandon Soo Hoo is... I think 13 yrs old.. Aang is 12 yrs old and Brandon is not cute... i think Noah ringer is more cuter than Brandon..
  • I don't think that's true. The casting choices and some liberties they've taken with character designs suggests otherwise.
  • I have a feeling that this movie is going to be laughed at for many years to come, maybe even more so than The Happening because this one seems to be a bit more ambitious, and honestly, I'm still not certain that The Happening wasn't meant to be a comedy.
  • The problem is that the casting choice would be blamed upon Shyamalan.
When the film fails like Dragonball Evolution, he will also take the blame and not the choices of Paramount Execs.
  • Solid
Earth, Fire, Water, Win- oops I mean Air! GO CAPTAIN AIR BENDER!
  • Ryan
I lol'd pretty hard at your comment dude

I have alot more faith in avatar than in DB since, it won't look stupid no offense to DB fan but it looked stupid with people avoiding gravity with random long jumps.
Someone here has seen Harry potter 5 right when dumbledore is using the water to fight voldermort that was badass, im sure a whole movie of that including fire, air and earth will be even better
  • The
I agree... that kid just doesn't look right. But that Slumdog guy looks great, he's really psst off looking!!!

A "element" fight like in Harry Potter would be epic! I hope they try and copy that.
