paul casting

Superbad/Adventureland director Greg Mottola’s next film is shaping up to be the funniest geek comedy ever filmed. But before I get into the new casting, let me tell you a little about the movie.

Scripted by and starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost (the duo from Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz) as two British nerds, fresh off a trip to Comic Con, who decide to go on a road trip to Area 51. They meet an alien named Paul who asks them to help him escape from the U.S. Government. I’ve heard the script is laugh out loud funny, with tons of references to Aliens, Star Wars, and Back To The Future. So how can it get any better than that?

Seth Rogen, Jason Bateman, Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader and Jane Lynch have been cast in the movie. Rogen will be providing the voice for the alien creature, and we can only assume that Bateman, Wiig, Hader and Lynch will either play government officials or characters they meet along the way on their road trip adventure.

  • Wow this is quite the comedic cast.
  • Ryan M
i just had a major nerdgasm
  • David Spade
Man. Was hoping Hader was going to be the voice. Fucking urine, man.
  • not surprised at all with Rogen's character. his Bob from "Monsters vs Aliens" was all kinds of awesome.
  • Agreed.
  • shadow
He was the best thing about that film
  • Why do I feel like it's overkill now? And Rogen again? Meh. But yay for Jason Bateman.
  • Holy Mother Fucking Shit. For months, nay, Years, I've been saying to my friends whenever talk of Simon Pegg OR Jason Bateman came up, that I would love Nothing more than a film in which they Both had some face to face comedy time.

    Thank You Universe. Yes.
  • Wow this is going to be one of the best comedies of 2010 for sure!!!
  • I'm glad that Kristen Wiig is becoming a star. She is one of the funniest new stars on Saturday Night Live (her Kathie Lee Gifford is hilarious), and she was excellent as Bill Hader's wife in Adventureland.
  • gah
i agree. easily the funniest female comedic actress out there now.
  • SPARTACVS
I thought she brought alot to the however small role she had on Flight of the Conchords too.
  • Best comedic cast ever.
  • Invention of Lying.
  • For the most part I love that cast as well, but I don't particularly care for Jennifer Garner or Rob Lowe. I don't really like Louis C.K. when he's performing either.
  • I thought Hader was doing the voice of the alien Paul....
  • I thought Hader was doing the voice of the alien Paul....should be interesting either way
  • Steve
I'm lost on how they could make this any more awesome. This is gonna be fucking sweet.
  • Not siked about Rogen, but fortunately he is just the voice. I cannot wait.
  • Sounds like this is going to be awesome. Is Edgar Wright having anything to do with this? I can't wait for At Worlds End to end the Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy.
  • Stoked! As I'm reading this on my couch, my wife is diving in to Arrested Development, thanks to my persistence. I think Bateman is sorely underused in films.
  • The cast and story is def a win...
  • Eliza
    Bateman--yay!!!!

And hey, is Intense Debate gone? Or just not showing up for me?
  • oh man i was excited before i saw this and now im just more excited!!!!!! Bill Hader is freakin amazing. how he's so funny i do not know. and who doesn't love Jason Bateman? Arrested Development is my second favorite tv comedy. 2nd only to 30 rock ;)

    cannot wait to see this!!
  • Greatest movie ever
  • Kristen Wiig is easily one of the funniest actresses out there right now. If anyone saw her Lawrence Welk Show skit on SNL a couple of weeks ago she was laugh out loud funny in that, and I hope she can bring that kind of over the top to whatever her role is in this one
  • I love how the new kings of Hollywood comedy all share my intense love for Back to the Future. It's about friggen time that BTTF was given the same scifi cred as the other, lesser, franchises.
  • Pretty good cast of solid comedic actors. Mottola's pretty good too, was surprised by how much I enjoyed Adventureland. Looking forward to this.
  • gah
    boner.
  • Wow, that's quite a cast. I hope all these people are as funny together as they are in their own movies/ TV.
  • Great cast, word of mouth around the office is the screenplay is fantastic!
  • LuMendz
This movie is really shaping up nicely. There's no way that this will fail! Or at least I hope not. I have faith in this cast. It's perfect! Though I have mixed feeling with Rogen, but it's good to hear that he'll only be the voice.
  • Better comedic cast this or Invention of Lying?
  • The_Kid
Cool cast, now i'm excited to see what Pegg, Frost and Paul are going to look like. Rogen's funny and I don't mind him as Paul but I would have rather had Hader in the role.
  • Naldec
I didn't think the script was that funny. Some of the wordplay is a bit contrived and the dialogue is very 'British' even though most of the characters are American. Yes, there are a lot of references but they're just that - references. I'm pretty sure it would end up being the least funny of the Pegg/Frost trilogy (bettered by Shaun... and Hot Fuzz).
  • Adam,

Is Nick Frost playing Seth Rogan in this cast
  • Kristen Wiig is so hot. But again, I tried to tune into SNL, and this time it took me only 22 seconds before I had to turn it off becasue the comedy was so poor. I love Kristen Wiig though,,,, so hot. YUMMY.
  • snls not that bad anymore (especially when justin timberlake is invovled). you just have to skip the first political skit. then youre golden.
  • Rogen and Hader were hilarious together in Superbad. This movie looks like its going to be great, especially with Pegg.
  • Jeannie
Kristen Wiig can do no wrong!
