Cyberdyne suit

Did you know that Cyberdyne is a real robotics company? Have they developed a robotic suit that will likely evolve into self-aware robots, Judgment Day and the end of the world as we know it?

Cyberdyne, which takes its name from the fictional company responsible for creating the supercomputer Skynet within the Terminator films, is developing a Hybrid Assistive Limb (or HAL… get it?). The suit is s a cyborg-type robot that can expand and improve physical capability. It was designed to help paralyzed people walk again and participate in daily activities.

According to Cyberdyne’s website, the suit works by detecting very weak biosignals on the surface of the skin, after nerve signals are sent from the brain to the muscles via motoneuron.

“HAL catches these signals through a sensor attached on the skin of the wearer. Based on the signals obtained, the power unit is controlled to move the joint unitedly with the wearer’s muscle movement, enabling to support the wearer’s daily activities. This is what we call a ‘voluntary control system’ that provides movement interpreting the wearer’s intention from the biosignals in advance of the actual movement. Not only a ‘voluntary control system’ “HAL” has, but also a ‘robotic autonomous control system’ that provides human-like movement based on a robotic system which integrally work together with the ‘autonomous control system’. “HAL” is the world’s first cyborg-type robot controlled by this unique Hybrid System.”

The future begins…

Dude, this has been around for a while now.

    Either way, we're f*cked.
  • Yeah I thought you guys posted this like a year or two ago? Maybe that was Engadget or Gizmodo. I remember watching the videos of someone just picking up rice sacks. Still exoskeletons will rock! Especially for the handicapped. Hey if they could help Professor X walk, why not?

The world was coming to an end after the ROOMBA was invented. If a robot can clean your whole house by itself, it can kill you.
  • ----
Roomba's are pretty terrible at what they where designed for.
  • Lol. Human's kill people all the time, did you know that? But if you mean more so of a Terminator or I,Robot then yeah I could see them being dangerous.

But hey what am I thinking the end of the world must be right around the corner...

    That last part is sarcasm.

    Is English your first language?
  • We've been doomed since cavemen created spears, it's all been downhill since then.
  • kentonsam
Yeah, it can help the paralyzed walk again, but can it enhance your strength? If I wanted to leap a wall in a single bound, could I? or hit random people and make them fly back 20 feet? if it can do all that then I will bow down to my robot overlords and join them in their annilation of man.
If not, i'ma hell of a cook. robot's need cooks right? right?!?!
  • Yeah right they need cooks...... -.-
"Here Mr. Robot take a cake......(robot puts it in its mouth) BZZZ-BZZZ-KABOOOOM !!!!
  • This is scary and exciting.
  • Philsauce
that's the most badass thing I've ever seen
  • can i get me one of these?
  • Dan W
Oh man. I can't wait to see how many broken limbs and pulled muscles are caused from this thing. Just wait until it just goes that little extra distance and breaks the wearers elbow in two.
  • What a bullshit the earth will be safe forever !... Yeah right give me a brake. We are fucked we are fucked hard. And i love it.... see some fucking japanese cyber shit travel in some Travle-Shit-Machine to take a shit on Madison Square Garden.
Damn i sed "shit" pretty much times... what a shit !
Soo if i got it right, you are in a suit that controls me ?
What a piece of shit diarrhea money vomit shit !
And i love it ! GIVE ME MORE THIS SCARY !

  • HollywoodHills
    that suit needs a jetpack.
  • Yeah... this is old.
  • Omg its starting, save yourselves. Looks pretty neat and more advanced then other models I've seen that do something similar.
  • Salad_Fingers
Let the implants commence! All very Ghost in the Shell no? Batou and the Major will be knocking door to door for Section 9 recruits before you know it.
  • Flax
Anyone else find it weird they're calling it HAL?
  • Jason
IF and we are talking a BIG IF, they can ever get the thing to actually work like it is designed to do. And they would probably have to be approved by some kind of federal standards group like the FDA does for food and medicine. Then it could possibly help people with limited mobility or paralyzed people. Of course those people would have to be extremely rich to buy such a suit. I doubt that your average health care insurance provider would cover what is bound to be a VERY expensive piece of equipment. So at the end of the day how many people is this thing REALLY going to help? I think the money to make this machine would have helped a lot more paralyzed people if it had been used to fund stem cell research. Just my opinion, I could be wrong.
  • Jason
Although I must admit it does LOOK very cool. Like something out of Tron:)
  • Cyberdyne ... HAL ... can this company choose any more references to Human Killing robot/computers?

The world will when the computer become self aware!!!!
  • Dirk Diggler
From the company' official website's FAQ:

Q: How much does "HAL" multiply one's strength?
A: It depends on the type of "HAL" you wear, but roughly speaking, "HAL" can multiply the original strength by a factor of 2 to 10.

WOW. So does that mean we'll be f*cked by superhuman Japanese?
  • SteveL
Actually that shits more like the Darth Vader suit than anything else.
    "Rise, Lord Vader"-Emperor Palaptine.
