Sony has released three photos from the Peter Jackson-produced Neill Blomkamp-directed sci-fi film District 9. Two of the photos, included after the jump, we’ve kinda seen before, but the photo above is completely brand new. Click on the photos to enlarge.

Based on Blomkamp’s short film Alive in Joburg, District 9 depicts a fictional world where extraterrestrials have become refugees in South Africa. Wikus (Sharlto Copley) is a Multi-National United agent who becomes infected by alien biotechnology. He must go on the run from the oppressive government into District 9, a internment camp where “non-humans” have been forced to live since landing on Earth nearly 30 years ago.

District 9 hits theaters on August 14th 2009.

  • I can't wait to see this. The more I see pictures the more I have to try and stay away... too bad my will isn't that strong... sigh...

    Yeah this is a must see movie. A revolution maybe in visual and doch like movie;) and odd camera angels is most anticipated from my point of view;)
  • Not really related I just thought it is strange that in 2009 we will have a movie called "District 9", a movie called "Nine" and an animated movie called "9".
    Weird.
  • It was either on here or Unreality Mag that they had an article discussing that yesterday or the day before. There's actually another movie as well with the number 9 in it.
  • The CGI work on the ship has this haziness to it that you see on large, distant objects (think of a bridge on a summer day as you see it in the distance. I think it really helps make it look believable as it reflects the imperfections we see in the real world.

    "Infected with biotechnology"... Man, each time I find out more about this film it's starting tom make me worry. The uncensored trailer with the "innocent" aliens didn't make sense. The aliens are the ones getting bossed around?

    What is so strange about humans possibly being more lethal than aliens? Sure they may have advanced technology, but that doesn't mean humans are weak or stupid. Why do we always have to be oppressed by aliens? You would think that somewhere in the universe of billions of life forms, we would be the ones bossing at least one alien race around.

    It's a fresh view on something that could happen in the universe of humans vs aliens.

    I'm starting to fall in love with the design of the ship. I wonder what's wrong with his right eye.

    So many questions. I don't want to overly hype myself but this movie is looking far to fascinating not to get excited.
