ghostbusters eliza

The Hero Complex caught up with Dan Aykroyd, who provided a couple updates on Ghostbusters 3.  Aykroyd says that Ivan Reitman is “too busy as a mega-producer” to helm the film, and that his second choice would be Ghostbusters co-star and Groundhog Day/Analyize This director Harold Ramis.

“He has a lot of things going on, but it would be wonderful to see him do it.”

Interesting, no mention of the often rumored Judd Apatow. Ramis is the obvious choice, and even more obvious when I’m reminded that screenwriters Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky last worked on the Ramis-directed comedy Year One.

As for the story, Aykroyd puts a number to the next generation Ghostbusting team, saying that they’re aiming to have a five-member core team with not one, but several female members. He even mentions Alyssa Milano (who provided a voice for the upcoming video game) and Eliza Dushku as potential options (his personal choices… read: they haven’t been cast or contacted for the film, yet). I could definitely see Dushku as a tough new female member of the Ghostbusters team. Milano however is almost 37 years old, much over the perceived age of a “new recruit”.

I’m all for introducing a female member to the nextgen Ghostbusters team, but I’m worried that two might be one too much. The further you stray from the original idea, the more skeptical I become. I’m also nervous that two female Ghostbusters could result in too much romance at work, because you know Hollywood… Ghostbusters are likely to fall in love with other Ghostbusters in order to appeal to one or two of the other four quadrants.

Sigourney Weaver is now on board now, as is the original crew of Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson. Still no word on Rick Moranis, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Aykroyd seems to think that the project is developing so quickly that he believes we’re going to be in production fairly soon. We could be in production by winter.” I think this film is happening, but not that soon.

  • Rick Moranis is on board. These two are the worst female choices I have heard so far.
  • RyGuy
Rick Moranis retired from acting years ago after his wife passed. This was the same thing that came up during the voice recording for the video game. He's retired.

    From May 2006: http://www.protoncharging.com/ghostbusters/archiv...
  • Ross Jackson
I had heard that Moranis retired to raise his kids, who are now leaving for college, thus leaving him open to join the cast. I saw somewhere that he was on board.
  • Rick Moranis is on board.
  • I wouldn't care too much for Elisha... she doesn't have the comic timing credentials to fit those shoes.

And besides, I DON'T want some random hot girl to go along with my four favorite geeks. It would ruin the whole appeal of it all.
  • Unless they have Alyssa as a recruiter or Staff Sergeant position it would make sense then her being more weathered then the rest of the crew. But prolly not huh?
  • This is going to shit before it's even started.
  • your opinion means shit.
    gtfo the internet.
no really, you, and anyone else who acts like a massive bitch, go offline.
don't post about how people are allowed to have different opinions like thats a revelation, just go away and come back when you are polite.
  • musicsoup
dude, alyssa still looks younger than you do. doesn't matter if she's 37. but i don't think she'll end up being in the film.

why hasn't anyone mentioned annie potts? she HAS to be in the film. she's as necessary as all the other actors.

and ramis has to direct. they can't hand this one off to some up and comer or rat brettner. it needs to be someone we all love and trust. i trust in ramis. unless they wanted to give the film to robert zemekis. i would be very happy with that decision. won't happen though.

please don't let this film suck.
  • yo, that chic is hot!
  • gah
yo, that's blatantly obvious! thanks for sharing!!
  • Sounds really bad, maybe it should be like Four Guys and the girl as the secratary. I really do hate Eliza Dushbag i mean Duchku. She always plays the I'm the Hot Chic that can kick your ass. She just comes off as a bitch and a bad actor at that.
  • The_Kid
not sure about two female ghostbusters or even having five members on the team, four just seems right. But I don't mind the ideas of Dushku being on the team or at Ramis directing, actually I would love if Ramis directed.
  • Would Bill Murray really agree to be directed by Ramis again? I thought the relationship between those two was patchy at best - or has the passage of time healed that wound? Hero of /Film Stephen T seemed to indicated in his commentary on Groundhog Day that it wasn't the easiest of shoots for the two of them.

Regarding females, I don't have a problem with Dushku...she is a friend to the geek and wouldn't be too up herself to be a foil to Murray and co. Actually, her co-Dollhouse star Dichen Lachman would also be a good choice. Putting aside her hotness, she's pretty funny to boot.
  • Goobity
I was excited to see Ghostbusters 2. Then I saw it.
I'm betting a 3rd will be about the same.
  • Nan
Also making it obvious that Ramis is the main candidate - Stupnitsky got his start in writing as Ramis' nanny to his 3 kids. Stupnitsky & Eisenberg are partners and Ramis' protoges - he's even directed a couple of their scripts for "The Office", on which S&E are staff writers.

There's also the fact that Ramis has guided and read their drafts for G3 at every stage, and he got them the job in the first place.
  • yeah but he has a new cartoon series...lol...he's still working I think they could get him to do a cameo
  • Yeah, Moranis said that the had made a enough money to support him for the rest of his life. I doubt we will ever see him in another movie other than maybe a biographical thing of someone he has worked with, him doing a short interview. (Maybe something on Mel Brooks or Bill Murray?)
  • Rusty
The faux picture of Dusku attached to this article is repugnant. Grow up slashfilm.
  • gah
well, some of the readership here are 13 year old boys trapped in 30 year old virgin bodies, so I'm sure it's just pandering.
  • jeremy
Aykroyd, man.. is he serious? Those are the worst females for the job. There are funny girls that would be perfect for this kind of comedy, considering they're still shooting for the same magic of the original film. Name 5 people better.. it can't be hard.
  • I wonder if Tina Fey would be interested in strapping on a proton pack? Funny and sexy to book...plus, she has that book-ish look that could work well.
  • gah
Sarah Silverman perhaps? suprised she doesnt have a movie career yet.
  • Are you really that surprised? I loved seeing her get her face punched in the Way of The Gun though.
  • SOS
Tina Fey is a damn good shout. Doesn't matter though, this film has disaster written all over it. All the main characters are pushing 60+
  • Bustedmovie
Is there a good script already made that requires a female? Or is this another example of a studio making demands of movies regardless of how it'd work in the long-term? They're risking tampering with a well balanced comedic troop for the sake of gender equality? What other unrepresented minorities can they add to the crew?
Hopefully I'm wrong and they make it work, but I have to say that I'm not liking how this is shaping up, like it's being entirely forced.
(And please, whatever you do, NO Sarah Silverman! I can forgive a lot, but not that.)
  • it should be sarah silverman, jane lynch, and maybe even let sigourney strap on a proton pack. please hire funny women, and not just hot women, as much as i love beautiful women, these women need to stand alongside murray and akyroyd. the idea of jane lynch being a ghostbuster is cracking me up already.
  • Jane Lynch would be a great choice!
  • dan
    heck yeah eliza
  • Wasabi Steak
Some of you sound like morons. Sounding all scared of a hot girl being "a friend to the geek or not". What kinda finger in your butt malarkey is this? If Dushku has a side role in it, its fine.
I dont know if there's any need for another Ghostbusters movie but if the main cast is in along with some new blood to entice younger audiences, its fine.
  • Just make this good. That is all.
  • Dan
How about Summer Glau? Her series has been cancelled and I don't see Joss adding her to Dollhouse unless Eliza, him, and FOX truely feels that it'll keep the show going longer. We've seen her as a badass on Terminator & Firefly/Serenity.

I do think that if Annie Potts returns, she should be replaced. I mean.. if we are trying to start a new generation of Ghostbusters, I think there should be a new sarcastic but stands up for herself secretary and I think Jeanne Garofalo should be it. Hell, it could be daughter replacing mother.

I donno.. do they want to bring characters in that were born before GB 2 or after it so the age would make sense?
  • primitiveskin
Was ABC Family's The Middleman so little-seen that Natalie Morales isn't on anybody's radar? Her Wendy Watson character is smart, sexy, funny, and she kicks butt. Hell, "The Panhellenic Ectoplasmic Investigation" episode was even chockful of Ghostbusters references! Art Crawl!
  • freemachine
Ummm, those thingies have totally put me at loss for words...
  • Solid
Hmmm... I don't know what to say to knews like this. I've been a gb fan since kindergarten. So if this isn't good I'll likely kill someone, no, not really, but I'd feel like I'd just watched the prequels again. This era in films is odd, isn't it? Such a nostalgia fest. Well chris tucker'd be a cool new gb member. In fact, I wouldn't mind a brett ratner directed gb movie, just since I think he has the comedic sensibilities for it. a lot of comedies now are just fart jokes. Brett as much as you might hate him, he's from the old days when every comedy wasn't a jim carrey ripoff. Oh don't f this up guys!
  • CyT
Id love this so much if it were good I reckon its worth the gamble of making it. So long as they remake an 80's film and dont reboot it into a 00's action flick. Keep the stupid comedy! People still want to laugh in 2st century.
  • kimmie
i think harold raimis brother ted should be in the movie.he doesnt have to be a ghostbuster (eventhough it would be cool)he should have a role in the movie.

Why are you commenters encouraging this mediocrity? This film is going to be a shit heap. Talk about going back to the well.
