  • Ennio Morricone...

    Ennio Morricone....

    and David Bowie's "Cat People!"

    where? how? uh....
  • Fred
He reused the Kill Bill 2 theme?
  • Merciful_budah
he did? which one is that? I thought that was called "battle..." something or other...
  • chuckles
So which one of you out there are going to put together a playlist of these songs and share it amongst us? Anyone? Anyone?
  • :D
I haven't heard some of these songs so I'm going to keep it that way until I've heard it in action.
  • Awesome. I knew Tarantino would keep his style of mixing old with new. :)
  • alex
where did david bowie come from? cant say i'm surprised but talk about the odd man out
  • I'm getting more and more pumped for this. Hopefully Tarantino won't let me down.
  • KeepCurtainTight
He's really break'n new ground by using Morricone again.
  • I'm so sick of Tarintino. He's just another one of those pretentious, snooty hipster jerk offs whose fans think he's some big genius just for stringing together a bunch of nonsensical, offensive crap. I see nothing "genius" about his work, only a junkie hack worshipped by the oh-so-trendy hipster crowd. Don't care for him, if that wasn't already obvious.

yea here come the -thumbs. Bring it
  • Dan
You can sit around and insult all you want, but it wont get you anywhere. Even if you don't think he's a "genius" he's much farther in life than you'll ever be. Don't be bitter just because you have nothing going for you and he happens to be creative.
  • You post a stupid comment like this and not expect to get shit for it? You'd think you could have taken the higher road and just not commented in a "Tarantino movie" article to begin with.

For calling someone a hack. I've seen your type of posts a thousand times. Come back with something "new".
  • This is my favorite of yours ever.
  • i would think it's quite the other way around. it's considered cool to hate on tarantino and so very hipster-y to be contrarian. and FYI, "Malick" (as in Terrance) is a director who i see as total d-bag hipster bait.
  • Yea maybe. Malick the same guy Tarintino ripped off with his True Romance script. Just like he ripped off City on Fire with Reservoir Dogs. Maybe the problem with Tarintino fans is they haven't seen these films and like to pretend their some sort of cinema lovers because they appreciate his films. Nothing more than a hackk
  • People always pop up with stuff like this and it's complete bs. First off Tarantino makes no secret of the movies and books that influence his work, I'm sure if you asked him he'd say Reservoir Dogs takes ques from City of Fire. Second, although the basic idea of Reservoir Dogs and City on Fire are the same the latter concentrates more on the infiltration, Reservoir Dogs focuses more on the aftermath of the actual robbery. They are two different films. The dialogue and characters are not the same and the direction is not the same. Kind of how that funny video pointed out how the new Star Trek and Star Wars have similar stories but when come down to the execution they are very different. There are thousands of examples of thing like this in film making.
  • Thank you. Someone said it, because I'm tired of typing this same sort of response.
  • Exactly. Deleting my post b/c you said it better than me.
  • alex
Maybe you should choose a different word than pretentious. This coming from a guy with Malick in his user name.

That is unless your last name is in fact Malick. In that case, carry on.
  • Sorry let me dumb it down for you Turdintino fans: I mean he FUCKING SUCKS MOTHER FUCKER DADDIO *film reference* *film reference* *cameo* *film reference* hehe
  • maybe i should gay it up for the malick fans:

wee! lost world! pocahontas! you go girl!
  • lol
  • Pretty much exactly what I would expect. I think he already used White Lightning for Kill Bill though.
  • Nando
you're an idiot. im not a particularly large fan of tarantino myself, but he is one hell of a filmmaker. people are still consistently ripping off pulp fiction which is arguably the best film of the 90s. yes, kill bill had zero substance but when the style is that well done who gives a shit? besides this, tarantino was around long before the hipsters came on the scene. not just hipsters praise him, just about everyone does
  • DShelton--

    agree 110%
  • Marko
At first I thought Billy Preston was the odd man out.

And then I saw the Bowie.
  • Merciful_budah
Bowie is sort of perpetually the odd man out. So therefore, in a Tarentino film I would say he is arguably the most fitting addition rather than the odd man out.

Which makes no sense even though it totally does, sort of like Bowie and Tarentino's work....
  • I think what everyone here is forgetting is that the films you are debating are in fact made to make you forget about the day to day of arguing about weither that film you are watching to forget about your day to day about arguing is good or not. The films are supposed to be fun and that they are!

Why can't we all get along , and go watch some Nazi's go get scalped without wondering which scene is going to get nit picked.

    Peace Love and Happiness...
  • Merciful_budah
"Why can't we all get along , and go watch some Nazi's go get scalped without wondering which scene is going to get nit picked.

    Peace Love and Happiness..."

I think you might be my new hero. That's one of the most profound and eloquent things I've ever read on the internet.
  • I liked all of Tarantino's work and can't wait to see how he handles WWII. A big part of what makes his movies so great is the music he has in them and Inglorious Basterds already seems to have a good list going.
  • Lono
I have to agree for the most part. I have enjoyed his stuff less with each offering (could I just be getting too old?). And I've seen far too many of his "sources." He puts out a slick, relatively entertaining product, but he hasn't done anything terribly original or innovative. It reminds me of when I hear a new band and they sound just like so and so, it just makes me want to go listen to so and so instead of the soundalike band. And I do just tend to want more substance with my style these days. It ain't no crime. It's just gowing up. Feel free to berate me.
  • Juiceless
Malick, if your comment was actually about the post, then we could chat. Do you have anything to say about the soundtrack, or were you just interested in displaying your oddly inappropriate level of hate towards someone you've never met to other strangers?
  • yes! morricone is the shit, so this should be fun.
  • Peter
    hipster. word of the year.

can't wait for people to move on to their next clique they hate.
  • don't act like you're better than tarantino fans.
    you don't know us.
Malick fans on the other hand.
enjoy nice sloooowww shots of hands running through tall grass.
    cause thats not indulgent.
  • Maximus running his hand through his wheat field = epic win! Don't be dissing the slow shots man!! ;)
  • i wonder if the Bowie could possibly be an instrumental cover --indicative of the WWII period? Maybe like a brass version of it, or possibly one sung in French or German?
  • I would love that.
  • Marc
Cat People is from Bowie's 83 album 'Let's Dance'
  • Actually, the original version was for the soundtrack of the movie Cat People.

Here's the original version (and hopefully the one Tarantino's using?):

    sweeeeeeeet
  • Justin
What I'd Say is my favorite Ray Charles song, I can't wait to see how it's used.
  • Merciful_budah
I think you're really missing the point of a lot of his work. Yes he strings together a lot of nonsensical offensive crap in his scripts. He does that because that's how his characters talk. I really can't see what's wrong with that. All of his movies have kicked ass in my opinion. Maybe it's because I can just enjoy them for what they are without belittling them for what they're not, or maybe it's because they're all really fooking good. I tend to think the latter.

I'm not gonna be an idiot and say you can't rail on tarentino (free speech being what it is and all that) but maybe you ought to lay off on ribbing his fans. I mean it's sort of silly to be like "I really hate this incredibly popular film-maker and his fans eat poop on a daily basis" and then make yourself out to be a victim when they give you negative buzz for said comment.

you know, freedom of speech being what it is and all that
  • Juiceless
I think what he's really missing, Merciful_Budah, is the fact that liking movies isn't a competition. I can't really understand putting any effort into attacking people who a) create art I don't appreciate or b) like things that I don't.

He "doesn't care for" Quentin Tarantino. So, while most people would just not watch his movies, this guy heads for the internet where he can pick fights with people that do like Tarantino's movies.
  • Exactly.
  • I don't give a f*ck if Tatantino ripped off other films. Fact is, he delivered the concept better. His movies rock, and Pulp Fiction remains as unique and relevant as the day it came out. He has passion and he delivers with that passion, it comes through on screen and I'm always constantly entertained. That's all I care about.

I saw the 4:10pm Star Trek at the Imax at Universal City Walk on Wednesday, and who strolls out of the theater after me and my girl, Quentin Tarantino. I was laughing my ass off, because he forgot how to find Valet, while being harassed by a pack of Asians. I know it sounds racist, but it's true...I don't know, I thought it was funny to share.
  • If you're gonna mock him, at least spell it right, dipshit: Tarantino. The baddest motherfucker of film today. Malick has never and will never come to be one tenth of the filmmaker Tarantino is.
  • lmao I think you got it backwards. Malick is 10 times the filmmaker Turdintino will ever be, that's why he blatantly copied one of his films.
