the touch

Stan Bush’s 1986 song “The Touch” was featured in the soundtrack for Transformers: The Movie, and later became a cult hit among Transformers fans and 80’s pop culture fanatics. The song was also later covered by Mark Wahlberg in Boogie Nights. Bush has recorded a new version of the song, retitled “The Touch: Sam’s Theme”, for the upcoming release of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Although, it’s not clear if the track is featured in the film itself.

You can listen to the new version embedded after the jump.  I’ve also included the original cheesy 1980’s music video, which I much prefer (at least that version is so bad its good…).

Also, Linkin Park have released a teaser for their new song, “New Divide”, which is not only a track on the film’s soundtrack, but also part of the movie’s score. That video is also included after the jump.

  • The original song isn't good (unless you're talking "so bad it's good").

    And this isn't any better.
  • Also it is terrible fight music, especially for Megatron vs. Prime.
  • Merciful_budah
oh give it up. For a kid seeing that scene for the first time that's awesome music.
  • Soundwave3000
    Absolutely aweful
  • dent08
I think thematically the tune is closer to their single "What I've done" that was used in the soundtrack of the previous movie. Anyone else agree?
  • every Linkin Park song sounds like WHAT I"VE DONE... don't get me wrong, they're an ok band, but every song is the same.

plus the new TOUCH music video.... so gay.
  • shoot hamaguchi
    I agree.
  • vva
Aw come on... lighten up! It's a movie about a giant robots fighting each other.
  • skippy
    that's your answer to everything!
  • Palmer
Yeah, I'd rather stick with the 80s version.
  • twstdbydsn
    me too.
  • Oh man this new version rivals brokenCYDE for terribleness. Wait, nothing can touch brokenCYDE and isn't fair to this song, terrible as it is.
  • Hoopla
Aw man... this is so bad. I wish they just updated the original keeping the same feel. The original is dangerously cheesy but a guilty pleasure. I'm actually surprised that I don't hate that linkin park song, it seems like it might be a fine addition to the movie if it doesn't have any singing with lyrics in it.
  • Eh, I like it. They ended the last movie with "What I've Done" which I thought was a great song for the credits, and this definitely has hints of it. I'm not seeing this song doing well for fight sequences, but I honestly don't think we'll see it used in a fight sequence. Sounds like Bay will use it somewhere else to me, something more emotional, pre-climax kind of a build up scene.
  • Talking about the Linkin park thing that is, haha, not the Bush remake. Woops. Should have specified.
  • wtf did they do to the touch?
  • I'd be disgusted if I didn't expect everything associated with a Michael Bay production to be awful and cheesy. And awful.
  • WOW I completely agree hopefully the movie isn't this bad, my god that was terrible. We are all now dumber for listening to that.
  • jason B
its goofy fun stuff like this that shows bay does care about the fans of this franchise.

i cannot wait to see prime in imax!!
  • Merciful_budah
There is nothing goofy or fun about that updated version. Michael Bay does not care about you. This is probably going to be just like the first one. There will be an hour and a half of human drama and then like 20 minutes of TRANSFORMERS fighting.

I'm expecting to be just as disappointed as I was in the first one. And if I hear this updated version of The Touch It'll be that much worse.
  • My name is Jason B and I was the top of my class at Sarcasm University, pa should be proud.
  • jank
seeing the guy in the affliction t-shirt, "rapping", was all i needed to stop the video right then and there.
  • good god. "the touch" remake is horrible. when will us goofy white guys stop trying to rap.
  • Dan
I prefer the Boogie Nights version.
  • Jesus that's awful.

And I rather liked the original song.
  • huh
lmao hahahahaha wow that was so bad...best laugh i've had in weeks, he looks like such a washed up douche bag and the video is fucking horrible
  • Imax
    a
attention attention- Whether it is true or not- Imax is now in damage control and apparently are planning to change their entire statistical charts on their website so if people go to check what constitutes an Imax experience it will now include all the "mini max" theatres they have been advertising as Imax too.
  • wake me up please. this is scary.
  • Lol I seriously hope none of "The Touch" song's are in the movie maybe after the movie for the last song during the credits. And if that Linkin Park song is in the movie should be a real emo moment where Sam decides he has to face Megatron himself and die to save millions...lol.
  • That was awful. Incredibly uncomfortable to watch. Why can't he just let go?
  • gah
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA. oh man, that is too much.
  • musicsoup
So wait, why not just get Linkin Park to play this version of The Touch? Why do we need Sam Bush's terrible attempt to sound exactly like Linkin Park? This really isn't associated with the movie. It's just Stan Bush wishing he could get through to Bay. But I think Michael Bay actually has the sense to know that this is terrible, and pretty painful. He already has one of the most massive fucking bands in the world working with Hans fucking Zimmer to incorporate a song they wrote as a theme to Bay's massive fucking movie, so why would he possibly need Stan Bush? And just as far as this pathetic video goes. Man, studio musicians have no soul. That guitarist is so lame. And this rapper guy, man he sucks. This is just crap. I'm not the biggest Michael Bay / Transformers fan, but even Bay is better than this.
  • Kelt
That song is actually making me like Linkin Park more
  • musicsoup
hahahaha! seriously!! i'm with you there.
  • Wow i hope that song not in the film.
  • :(

I wish Stan could have just added a new guitar solo to the original or something. Touch09 is just...terrible. Sure, the original isn't great, but it's fun as hell.

As for Linkin Park, I hate them as a band, but like someone else said: So long as that song is confined to an instrumental version, it'll be fine.
  • Thatdudesafaggot
0:46 is the funniest thing I've ever seen on this site. I actually LOL'd hard.
  • LeMime
That's good, but 3:04 to 3:18 is pretty damn sweet too! Stan and White Rapper are well into it, but the guitarist's face says "just nod and try not to laugh, you're getting paid for this!!!'
  • The original song is one of the greatest songs of all time (I'm serious), and this new version is badass simply because it is associated with one of the greatest songs of all time. I warmed up to it the second and third times I watched it, and now I also think it's kick-ass.

I suspect the rest of you are just "new-transformers" fans. Which is disgusting.
  • Rune
I'm a hardcore TF fan, and I loved the original The Touch from '86.
But sorry to say, this new version... sucks. I can't stand it.

    Fail.
  • Merciful_budah
Oh up yours on all that. Not because your an oldschool fan (I am too), but because you're trying to act all cool about it. If you really think that the people dislike the new version of the song because they're newer fans of the franchise then you're really offbase. And to be honest, I think the fact that you like it simply because you're an "old-transformers" fan is much more sad than people watching it with a fresh perspective finding it to be crappy. I love the old version of this song, I think it's glorious. But this new version is just sad.
  • Your negativity is really dragging down the atmosphere. Let's just take a step back and breathe deep, OK?

Given that Stan Bush released this new version as a re-imagining of the old one, just as the new Transformers films are a re-imagining of the old series', this song is really intended as an homage to that era.

I can't view it from any perspective BUT that of associating it with the old song, because as far as I can see that's what was intended.

I'll happily admit that if this song came out and there was never any previous song, or previous Transformers film, then I'd believe it was a terrible song. But I can't. It's not possible.

    This song is amazing.
  • Abdel
I like the new version but the Linkin Park song is way better.
  • Robert Commiskey
This new video kind of symbolizes the moment when Christian rock festivals became alright with nu-metal. The guy who "raps" is probably the really cool choir director at an evangelical mega-church. I bet some of the church parents find his fashion edgy, but at the same time think he's a really good guy. So they probably imagine him when they think to themselves, "No, I am open-minded. My friend raps with Stan Bush."
  • I felt it was like an snl andy samberg skit
  • matt
    affliction shirt = epic fail
  • freemachine
Agreed. Anyone who wears and Affliction t-shirt deserves a left upper-cut, followed by a right hook.
  • freemachine
Agreed. Anyone who wears an Affliction t-shirt deserves a left upper-cut, followed by a right hook.
  • He's lost his touch. :P

It's not a terrible remix but they should definitely had this over to a band that's used to doing this kind of heavy lifting.
  • freemachine
Does anyone even watch music videos anymore? BTW, the Boogie Nights version is the best.
