District 9 Teaser Trailer: The Uncensored Version

d-9-uncensored

The teaser trailer for Neil Blomkamp’s District 9 debuted just the other day, and regardless of whether or not you appreciated its faux-documentary style, I think it’s pretty safe to say that Blomkamp’s visual style is unique and, in my opinion, spectacular. One of the critical moments in the teaser is an exchange that takes place between a human and an alien who is sitting behind a table in an interrogation room. The alien responds to some basic questions, but we don’t see what the alien’s “face” looks like (it’s blurred out, Cops style), nor do we understand what it is saying.

Now, via IMDB, a new trailer has surfaced which removes the blur and adds in some English subtitles for the alien language. I for one was kind of a fan of the mysterious undertones of the original teaser, but the subtitles give further hints as to the plot/setting/circumstances of the new film. Hit the jump to check out the trailer, then hit the comments to let us know what you think.

  • That's a pretty cool alien design.
  • Yeah, I love it.
  • Looks great. Can't wait too see this film, I think I am more excited about this than any summer blockbuster.

  • Knowing Weta Workshop. Most likely a mix of things.
  • Chris

  • District9
Actually its full CG. I know becasue Im working on this movie as CG artist.
  • Could be both as a lot of shops have been doing a mix more and more these days.
  • Wow, I love it. Very interesting without all the pixels and what not. Can't wait.

That just made my whole day. I've spent the entire week watching the trailer, wondering what the alien's faces look like, then we get this. This movie is going to be astounding. Pure gold.

Guaranteed there's a waterboarding scene. How long do you think an alien can take it?
  • It depends. Are they allergic to water like the M. Night aliens?
  • It depends. Are they allergic to water like the M. Night aliens? (groan)
  • The video JUST got taken down on imdb. I clicked on the link from the main article, and decided to watch the original first. But when I went back to watch the uncensored version, it was gone...
  • i love the mystery behind this! even though we know what the alien is saying, it still creeps me out!
  • gregt
    best part of wolverine
  • I have to admit, it was what I was most looking forward to when I walked into XO:W.
  • Yup. It was taken down.
  • richard
i really want to see some of the stuff where the agent is infected, instead of the interviews and such
  • This looks like a strange commentary on apartheid and the recent xenophobic violence directed at against immigrants.
  • I think the movie is set in South Africa, if I'm not mistaken. yes, indeed, it's pretty much about xenophobia and apartheid.
  • You still don't really know that other than the theme and the backdrop Blomkamp has used in this and what was in the short film.
  • really? looked like some kinda crazy space cockraoch to me, but tomato-potato i guess.

    :)
  • Go read some books. Might help with understanding allegories.
  • HEAVENLY_CREATURES
Yeah, i picked that up too.
  • I really,really, really like this preview!!!
  • Looks fantastic. I really like how they devoted some of their efforts into making a realistic fake alien language without making it a parody.
  • it looks Pretyy Real. I just hope its not Like Cloverfield. I thought that movie kinda Sucked.
  • Have you watched the short film this is based on? It's not like Cloverfield.
  • YesI have. I meant with shaky camera. Thats all...
  • This made the trailer a thousand times better in my opinion. I liked it blurred but now I really have an idea of why I should be excited for this. The themes behind it seem like it could make it go the extra mile this summer and deliver something truly amazing.

It would be better with Jar-Jar.

We-sa justa wantsa tosa gosa home, sa.
  • "Jar-Jar Binks makes the Ewoks look like Fucking Shaft"
  • Spaced FTW!

This is pro-alien propaganda. Don't fall for it; they will enslave us when they really come here!
  • Haha, what kind of a name is "Neill Blomkamp" anyway? Sounds made up to me...

But Peter's right, this guy has wonderfully unique style. He will go far in this business.
  • That is if the business doesn't ruin him first. Let's hope not.
  • Brian
When they zoom in on the alien's face...you can't help but see emotion in it's face...sadness even. One question though, how in the world could humans occupy a ship like that from an incredibly advanced race of alien life forms?
Either way, the reversed portrayal of humans and aliens (or what it seems) is great, I hope this one does well.
  • In the short film they were siphoning resources we had to rebuild and maintain that ship. I'm assuming here for the film they found a way to keep them here by denying them those resources somehow?
  • tyler
what short film is this you speak of?
  • This one. Which the film is based on

I'm really glad I got to see the first trailer before this one. They're both amazing, I loved the mysticism of the first trailer, and that got me really excited. This trailer actually told me what I was getting excited about.
  • The subtitles for the alien dialogue really fills in a lot of the gaps in the plot that were left by the first one. The aliens had intention of going there and really just want to leave but of course the humans only care about their technology and weapons.
  • Although this is a sc-fi film I can already tell that Bloomkamp is probably using the aliens as a device to show us the humans reaction towards them. Like you mentioned the real monsters in the film will probably end up being the humans.
  • OK this film just moved up onto my must-watch list.
  • Sam
has a real children of men vibe to it, i'm definitely looking forward to this film. The halo shorts were great too, i love how there was little reliance on cgi and when cgi was used, it was very realistic.
  • David
I hope to god it's better than the wretched City of Men ...
  • starscream9289
I actually felt really bad for that poor alien. He just wants to go home!
  • I'm 100x more excited about this film now. You can sense a great deal of emotion in the tight shot of the aliens face. You could almost feel the same vibe when it was blurred and no subtitles. Body language can say it all if done properly. I can't wait for this film.
