Star Trek Cameos Revealed

 Star Trek

TrekMovie has gotten their hands on the full credits for JJ AbramsStar Trek, and have uncovered a bunch of casting and cameo easter eggs. I have included some of the more interesting ones below:

  • J.J. Abrams’ “good luck charm” and best friend since childhood Greg Grunberg appears in the film as Jim Kirk’s stepdad (voice only).
  • Producer and Academy Award-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind) appears as a Vulcan council member.
  • Tyler Perry plays Starfleet Academy president Admiral Richard Barnett.
  • The Beastie Boys song “Sabotage” is listed as one of the songs used in the film.

Check out the full list at TrekMovie.

  • Freakin' Greg Grunberg, all over those J.J. Abrams projects. It would've been nice if he had more of a role in Lost instead of going with Heros IMO.

He also needs to do more movies. If Bradley Cooper was able to break out of Alias, surely Grunberg can make the jump to the big screen as well.
  • wow, very interesting
  • Peter
    Sabotage? Wtf.....
  • dontworryboutit
It's on that part in the trailer of young kirk driving the car off the cliff.

    yep.
  • I remember the Christian Slater cameo in Star Trekk VI: The Undiscovered Country. So random.

Tyler Perry? Really? Did Madea make it in also?
  • I saw this film over the weekend and it was FANTASTIC - the use of "Sabotage" in the movie is really, really awesome.
  • I saw the movie last Thursday and it is fucking fantastic. GO SEE IT.

Madea cameo seems blah, but FUCK YEAH BEASTIE BOYS!!!!!
  • shameless
    i HATE tyler perry.
  • Brian
Tyler Perry...wow. It's as if they think we don't already have enough reasons not to see this film.
  • Akiva Goldsman is in this bastard? Euugh...
  • Palmer
The Beastie Boys? How the hell is that going to fit?
  • Django
Maybe it'll be used for the "Star-base Jumping" sequence.

Which, I think'd be actually pretty damn cool!
  • Somewhat related: I'm on the fence about watching this only because I'm not a Trek fan and I feel that if I don't know about it I'll be lost during the movie. Can I watch this without knowing a lick of Star Trek?
  • Django
Apparently it's a re-boot in the truest sense: both appealing and told from the ground level of these characters, particularly Kirk's motivations for wanting to leave Earth & go to space in the first place.

If early reviews are any indication, non-fans are in for quite a ride - no matter what!
  • Slaters mom happened to be the casting director...odd no?
  • TomTom
Geez, what a coincidence to come across a time traveling spock in a random ice cave.

    Ridiculous script.
  • JJ Fredricks
Alas Michael Dorn's voice was used in a cameo. Did anyone else notice it? I watched both the Imax and theatrical film. And when I saw the IMAX version, everyone that I had seen it with told me, after the final credit, they were all, "what about credit to Michael Dorn"? It seems that it was his voice as the police officer in the opening scene with a young Kirk when he was questioned by the authorities. Did anyone else notice that? Anyone?Bueller? Bueller?
  • NDM
I noticed the Michael Dorn vocal cameo, too... The second that "police officer" started talking, I was like "Worf!"... I have been searching the net for confirmation...
