  • Dude
What the hell, I atleast thought MTV was cooler than that. I love the MTV movie awards because I thought that was the only place a movie such as The Dark Knight would get it's much deserved love. Not a movie like Twighlight, unless it was nominated for "lamest movie" and "gayest fans".
  • Barry Kicks
Surely something must be done about those gay fans! ::sarcasm::
  • yeah, Dude, last time I checked, Twilight's "gayest fans" are girls who have a huge crush on that Twilight guy. How does that make them gay...?
  • Dude
    you're gay!
  • You guys are missing the point: Dude is talking about TWIGHLIGHT... which is weird because that movie (which may or may not exist) is not mentioned once in this whole post.

Unless he meant "Twilight" and just can't spell. No, that can't be -- he seems so well-read and cultured.
  • Dude
    YOU'RE GAY!!!!
  • Bull
You thought MTV was cooler than that? MTV creates shows on a shoestring budget and profits off of them by attracting the attention of those below the age of 16. I used to love MTV, but for the past 5-10 years the shows produced at that whorehouse have been laughable at best.

MTV and the term "cool" should no longer be used together.
  • oh wow!! I'm so excited... *sarcastic*

I expect there'll be lots of screaming girls who will faint if that Twilight guy comes onstage to accept his award. But on a serious note, does anyone here on Slash Film really care about MTV Movie Awards?
  • i actually do. though you must take the wins and even the nominations with a grain of salt, i've always found the telecast fairly entertaining. it's fun to see those great, but underappreciated movies from the Oscars, get a little love from the real fans.
  • In the words of David Slade, "MTV Movie Awards at gun point? Just shoot me".
  • Dude
and where the hell is Wall-E in all of this? Dammit! My only hope now is that Andy Samberg and The Lonely Island goes on stage and start throwing rocks at Robert Pattinson or whoever the hell that douchebag is.
  • joshi38
*Insert obligatory joke about how MTV used to air actual music*

It's been a while since I've had any respect for the MTV Movie Awards... or MTV in general. So this doesn't surprise me in the least. These awards are simply the peoples choice awards without the people or choice.
  • it's Empty TV....
  • No, not really no...at all.
  • bob
the mtv movie awards would be the most entertaining award show to go to bar none. are you kidding me? you wanna sit through 15 minutes of "in memoriam" of stunt coordinators who havent made a film in 60 years? or watch someone like jack black fuckin host his little ass off for 2 hours. HATERS!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Bullio
Haters is a term dumb people use against reason. Go back to your room before your Mom sees you playing on your computer.
  • Yes, I would rather sit through a ceremony honoring people who are ARTISTS, not some popularity contests featuring comedians who cater to tweens.
  • MattK
How come Robert Pattinson is getting nominated for best BREAKTHROUGH performance? He's practically playing the same character he played in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, only he's dead throughout the whole film instead of just at the end of the movie?
  • these are movies i can really relate to as a 13 year old girl.
  • my boyfriends fast and furious all the way, but i'm like YEA. RIGHT. twighlight or mama mia or i'm so not going to school tomorrow. i'd be so embarrassed.
  • CamelSpit
Does Viacom sign your checks Peter?
  • Marko
The thing I'm most surpised is the fact that Robert Downing Jr is NOT nominated for best comedic performance for Tropic Thunder. Actually I'm quite surpised that Tropic Thunder is only nominated once, given the amount of hype they had for it at last year's awards.
  • You shouldn't be surprised because nobody named "Robert Downing Jr." was in Tropic Thunder.
  • Dan
Did any MTV award show watcher really go and see the Reader?
  • joshi38
Hugh Jackman didn't even see the Reader and he hosted the freakin Oscars
  • No, but I can guarantee they're mostly Kate Winslet fans.
  • haha I thought the same thing
  • This is so stupid. The MTV Movie awards are a joke. Everyone can guess that all the retarded little 12 year olds are going to pick the winners i.e. everything Twilight is nominated for...

    MTV Sucks.
  • JD_
wow, getting a little worked up over an award show that isn't supposed to be taken seriously
  • GwG
They would give Penn and Franco a nom for best kiss but ignore Penn for best actor... Although I feel like an idiot for expecting MTV to do better than that...
  • David
While I agree that this hardly reflects any actual artistic value of movies, I think in a way this is a more important awards show than many others since it is now using people's vote. This is like getting free research as to what the demographic that watches MTV (whatever that might be) responds to. Someone running a studio or pitching a movie idea should be very concerned about these results as opposed to how movie critics or other actors/actresses perceive things because of the buying power this reflects. Sure, ideally studios should be concerned with the artistic value of their products and such but it is possible that doing so could hurt the bottom line which is what keeps them in business.
  • Weyland_Yutani
You need to think about this a bit. Internet voting - you know, the kind that a 13 year old girl can spend hours on (i.e. It doesn't really reflect much of anything).
  • That's what you get when MTV watchers pick the nominations. Though there are a few categories in which I have a favorite. Like Franco for best comedic performance, Franco and Penn for best kiss and Franco, Rogen and McBride for best fight. to be honest I didn't realize the similarity until I typed that up.
  • They forgot one of the nominees for Best WTF moment:

High School Musical 3 gets nominated for Best Movie.

Everyone including MTV knows this is just a joke and done for laughs, but tons of teens will tune in and watch and people like us will discuss the absurdity of it on message boards, so it works. I won't watch the show but I do thank you for posting this and letting me chuckle a bit.
  • It would be quite an achievment if Slumdog wins a bunch of these awards too, because then it would be liked by film majors and janitors.
and thats a hard feat to accomplish.
  • from what i've gathered, the movie is really finding an audience in the college and older high school crowd, so i wouldn't be surprised to see Slumdog steal and award, though probably not one from a sparkling vampire.
  • oldschoolfilms
MTV Awards...last I remembered, after they lost their credibility, MTV in general is geared more for the tween crowd to begin with. But, it is fun to rip on them for such shitty choices. 8 nods to Twilight. Shakes my head. Was that really shocking though? Ah, well. I won't bitch since I don't even waste my time with it anyway.
  • It's not an award show to take seriously. I mean the nominations were helped picked by fans and the winners will have been voted on by fans. Its the only place Twilight could possibly win anything. I use to love the MTV movie awards, but I haven't watched them in years because most of the noms/winners I cannot wrap my head around. At least there are a few decent picks up there.
  • A-hahahahahahaha.
  • HSM3 and Twilight defs Best Pictures...
    WTF
  • RWF
Goddamnit. What is going on in this world?
  • It's not MTV's fault for Twilight dominating the awards. You could have voted last month for who would have taken over each category on MTV.COM its all the twilight fans who voted so many times.
  • All the nominees that were OBVIOUSLY just added in because they gained hype from the Oscars (Kate Winslet, anyone from Slumdog, etc) look so out of place next to...well...Twilight and High School Musical.
  • starscream9289
    "Best WTF Moment"

    Really?
  • I nominate the whole 2009 MTV Movie Awards for "Best WTF Moment"
  • I guess all of you (readers, commenters) have the memory of a goldfish because it seems like this sort of discussion erupts every year when MTV announces their Movie Award nominations. It's a popularity contest. It always has been. It always will be. Yet, every year people spout off "oh, MTV's all bullshit now" as if this was some recent development.

IT HAPPENS EVERY YEAR. STOP BEING SURPRISED AND/OR OFFENDED BY THIS. If your vote isn't represented in the nominees, then too bad. If you didn't vote and you disagree with the nominees, then too bad.

I also like the position of people who are totally hoping for Dark Knight to win but if something like Twilight wins, they'll disregard that victory as "stupid, meaningless, not even a real award". If it's such a stupid show, do you even want one of your favorite movies being associated with it and as such, why do you care? Hasn't Dark Knight gotten enough fucking attention?
  • twwww
to everyone complaining that this is a joke etc etc its reality check time, these awards are for teeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeenagers ok guys so stop being all appalled because HSM and twilight are nominated, if you were a 16 year old girl youd want them to be nominated too and guessss wuuuuut the demographic for these awards is?
  • Nominated for best movie: High School Musical 3: Senior Year and Twilight in the same bracket as TDK?? Really?? Is MTV ran by a bunch of fucking tweens? What a joke.
  • Jesus Christ, what the hell is it with Twilight. The movie sucked as it is. TDK FTW!!!
  • Palmer
Meh, who still cares about the MTV Movie Awards?
