Movie Trailer: Nora Ephron’s Julie and Julia

Julie & Julia

Since the leaked Transformers 2 trailer was taken down, I thought I’d bring you something equally as exciting (yes, that is sarcasm). Columbia Pictures has released the trailer for Nora Ephron’s (Bewitched, You’ve Got Mail, Michael, Sleepless in Seattle) Julie & Julia on Moviefone. The film is actually an adaptation of two bestselling memoirs: Julie Powell’s Julie & Julia and My Life in France, by Julia Child with Alex Prud’homme.

“Based on two true stories, Julie & Julia intertwines the lives of two women who, though separated by time and space, are both at loose ends…until they discover that with the right combination of passion, fearlessness and butter, anything is possible. ”

Up front and center are the performances by Meryl Streep and Amy Adams. Check out the trailer after the jump and leave your thoughts in the comments below.

Watch the trailer in High Definition on Moviefone. Julie and Julie hits theaters on August 7th 2009.

  • Is the title a Jules et Jim reference?
  • no, this movie is based on a memoir written by a woman named Julie Powell, about Julia Child. I guess Amy Adams plays Julie Powell.
  • I realize that but the title resemblance was rather notable. And for the record Jules et Jim is one of the great french new wave films.
  • yeah I know of Jules et Jim (but haven't seen it yet). Maybe the title of the memoir is a nod to that film, but I haven't read the book so I can't say for sure.
  • Watch it, I can't recommend it strongly enough. It plays tension like an accordion.
  • Julia LoveChild
All of America has been clammoring for this one.
  • Yes, because "All of America" wants to watch torture porn and action movies all the time.
  • Julia LoveChild
Hey !!! I WANT to see this one you turd burglar !
  • Then stop eating all those fishsticks and stop making sarcastic remarks like "All of America has been clammoring for this one"
  • I know that my mom would love to see this. Meryl Streep does a great impression of Julia.
  • Sally
We were wondering what movies you Mom was interested in.
  • Really? why would you care what you Mom is interested in? I don't.

And it's a freaking comment box. What's the deal with people making stupid snarky comments about everything?
  • Lewis
I'm a dude and I think that looks great. No sarcasm necessary.
  • nice. another Meryl Streep-Amy Adams movie :-)

    it looks good.
  • Why be sarcastic? I would actually consider this more exciting than a Transformers 2 trailer.

The trailer is terrible, and don't uses the talent of Meryl. Too bad, but I hope it can be a sucess and that she get her 156th nomination.

Meryl Streep... bringing credibility to even the most seemingly lackluster of genres.

Wow for once a fun movie that doesnt invovle soft porn or 70's flash backs and isnt a chick flick.
  • Bill EnBarry
Ooh ! What are all these movies you are watching?
  • Anonymous
Well, it is a chick flick.
  • It looks neat, but I think I'd rather just watch a movie about Julia Child. Without the Julie part. It'd be more interesting.

    Meryl honey, ditch the agent.

Are you kidding??? Meryl has one hell of a carrer going for a woman over 50! Infact she's become an institution and a brand name beyond any other living actress.

Did you ever hear the acceptance speeches women give, when they win in a category where Meryl is also competing? They are always refrencing her and what an honor it is, just to be among her name...

Seriously, the woman can touch anything and come out a winner in these days.

I am a 30 year old guy and I am looking forward to this movie. Probalbly more than Wolverine or Transformers 2.

I have been looking forward to this movie ever since I found out about it. I loved the book. The trailer just makes me crave it more.

If it were someone other than Nora Epron, i would consider watching it, but she's a definite stop for me. On a side note: Amy Adams is the next great American actress, imho.
  • Seems like an alright movie. Both actresses seem like they give great performances.

Enjoyed both of the books on which the movie is based and am looking forward to the movie. I'm a big fan of Nora Ephron and have read all of her books and enjoyed all of her movies -- she's witty, very intelligent and doesn't take herself too seriously.
  • I would see Julie and Julia just for the grand experience of once more getting an opportunity to see, the greatest screen actress ever put on a Meryl Streep performance as only Meryl can do, add a little of Amy Adams a pinch of Stanley Tucci with a little bit of French Omelette and a deboned chicken on the side, and I'm ready to run stop signs on my way to the theater.
  • Linda Johnson
Nora Ephron is a genius beyond genius. Clearly, she diserves to be admired for all she has accomplished in her life. I believe that I am her best fan. I watch "Sleepless in Seattle" or "You've got Mail" three or four times per week to cheer me up; they are better than prozac. I just read "I Feel Bad About My Neck". Nora is an inspiration.

I just saw the film here in Fairfax in a special preview and it was FANTASTIC! I just LOVED it! Meryl Streep is amazing as Julia Child, whose show I can remember watching as a child because my mother was a foodie too! Amy Adams is wonderful as Julie, and the film just so totally WORKS! Great ensemble cast including a wonderful performance by Jane Lynch as Julia's sister Dorothy. This is definitely a film I will watch over and over. The food plays a starring role as well!
