district 9

The movie trailer for the Neill Blomkamp’s District 9, the super secret sci-fi project produced by Peter Jackson, will be attached to X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Apple will be premiering the trailer online sometime during Thursday afternoon. But if you have the chance to see this thing on the big screen, you might want to resist watching it for the few extra hours. I’ve also heard that an extended trailer (possibly the 4-5 minute reel shown at ShoWest) will be released online in a few weeks.

District 9 is based on Blomkamp’s short film Alive in Joburg. The film tells the story of Wikus (Sharlto Copley), a Multi-National United agent who becomes infected by alien biotechnology. He must go on the run from the oppressive government into District 9, a internment camp where “non-humans” have been forced to live since landing on Earth nearly 30 years ago.

  • Can't fucking wait. I'm so excited!!!
  • I really want to see this trailer. So much of this movie is still shrouded in mystery.

I know a lot of folks don't care much for the Halo movie that Blomkamp and Jackson were working on but if this film is good hopefully they'll pursue the Halo project again.

Anyway District 9 seems pretty awesome and everything I've heard from the ShoWest footage only supports that claim.

The short film is pretty cool. I am hesitant to make any judgments until seeing the trailer but with P. Jackson on board your can imagine we are in for something really great.

    I didn't know the official website(s). It's great.

I have real high hopes for this one. Blomkamp really does appear to be extremely talented on the evidence of all of his fantastic shorts. Check out his short ‘Yellow’ if you haven’t seen it already. On that short alone he’s a no brainer to direct a live action ‘Ghost in the Shell’ should it ever happen…

    Sweet!!
  • Just watched the Trailer for District 9. At first I thought I put up the wrong trailer, but then half way thru it I knew I had the right one. Looks every interesting. I don't wanna give it away. The run time on the trailer is 1:45.
  • Where can I find the trailer?
  • SteveK
WagnerT, where did you find the trailer?
  • One to watch for sure. Waiting for a film can be tough work but a solid viral campaign helps keep the momentum - even if you only follow the ones trying really hard to figure everything out. I wonder if someone has coined a phrase for the activity of following those who are engrossed in a viral marketing campaign. Hope the phrase isn't as wordy as this post.
  • I'll back again for sure, thanks for great article :D
