Brick alternative poster

The /Filmcast: After Dark is a recording of what happens right after The /Filmcast is over, when the kids have gone to bed and the guys feel free to speak whatever is on their minds. In other words, it’s the leftover and disorganized ramblings, mindfarts, and brain diarrhea from The /Filmcast, all in one convenient audio file. In this episode, Dave Chen, Peter Sciretta, Devindra Hardawar and Adam Quigley discuss some of the works of Michael Mann, lavish praise on Rian Johnson’s Brick, and debate whether or not it’s okay to Twitter during a movie. Special guest Dan Trachtenberg joins us from the Totally Rad Show.

  • A discussion about Brick? Win!
  • seconded, awesome movie

and i LOVED the brothers bloom, checked it out at the lff last year, and i love people who mix up their genres too, like kubrick. chris nolan's diversifying now as well!
  • "Anyone who can't pronounce that name would have to be a complete idiot"

I laughed extremely hard when that happened, but in all seriousness good discussion and Brick is one of my all time favorite movies.

i realize i'm late in giving my two cents, but i wanted to anyway: a couple weeks ago, my class had a 'field trip' to the place where crank 2 was color corrected. the whole process was a 3 month 12 hour a day job, where neveldine & taylor were actively involved. i believe their goofy behavior at the premiere was in the spirit of the films overall insanity, and not from the fact that they don't take their film seriously. you just don't do some of the ambitiously technical things they did for something you don't give a shit about. so to say 'see, they aren't even taking it seriously' is completely misinterpreting their craft & attitude. i wasn't there, but to me it sounded like they were trying to pump the crowd up for a rowdy film, which truly makes films like crank a more enjoyable experience - as opposed to those quiet mousy crowds.

i guess that was a long winded way of me saying: promoting theater twittering is a bad, bad idea that will bite us in the ass down the road. i agree with a lot of what ya'll said on the podcast, & i really hope this whole fad gets nipped before it gets out of control. i cannot be alone in my absolute hatred for those fucking assholes who still play around with their phones during films.
  • i forgot mark ruffalo was in collateral! remember really digging the movie, first thing i saw javier bardem in. one thing i'd change about the movie is i'd swap jamie fox for will smith. not because jamie foxx gave a bad performance, but because...tom cruise and will smith!

oh, and the prestige was a period piece that went for hand-held over tripod/steadycam, without looking as ugly as public enemies. but even though it's off putting i hope the actual movie changes my mind about it, i was really looking forward to it before i saw how it had been shot!
