Case 39 Trailer Finally Leaks

case_39

It has now been almost three years since Case 39 went into production. That’s some delay and seeing as the best information we have on a release date simply indicates a vague 2010 (I’m told that you shouldn’t believe the September ‘09 you will see in some places) I’m surprised to see a trailer online at all but one has turned up unofficially within the last hour on YouTube.

To get you ready for the trailer - embedded after the break - here’s the official synopsis from the placeholder page now constituting an official site:

…a horror film starring RenĂ©e Zellweger as family services social worker Emily Jenkins. Emily thinks she has seen it all until she meets her newest, most mysterious case, troubled 10-year old Lilith Sullivan (Jodelle Ferland). Emily’s worst fears are confirmed when the parents try to kill Lilith, their only daughter. Emily saves her and decides to take her in herself until the right foster family comes along. Then the real horror begins…

You can see a lot of that “real horror” in this trailer, which I’d guess takes us some way into the third act.

The film is directed by Christian Alvart, who subsequently made Pandorum - which is set to be released this September. Screenwriter Ray Wright was previously guilty of the Pulse remake and has The Crazies redo pending. If that doesn’t make you worried about the new Crazies, then I don’t know what will. Here’s hoping Wright is actually a very talented screenwriter and somebody else screwed Pulse.

Judging from early word on Case 39 however…

The young girl at the heart of the story is played by Jodelle Ferland, previously seen in Silent Hill and Tideland. She’s going to have acted in more R-rated scenes by the time she comes of age than I’d have seen by the time I went from minor to major.

This looks really good. Looking forward to it.

Ehh. For some reason, shit like this usually freaks me out, probably because a baby died in my house and freaky shit happens but it looks so-so. I hated Pulse and couldn't stop laughing. Hopefully this is better. And is that Bradley Cooper?

Poor girl - she's going to play that role forever.
  • Really not a big fan of Renée Zellweger, so this one is sort of a big meh for me.
  • Spence_Mgence
I concur. The only thing I have ever somewhat liked her in is "Me, Myself, and Irene" and she didn't even wow me in that either.
  • DRMB1990
Cold Mountain was really good too, I think that was one of the most different rolls for her, she wasn't the goody girl like in Bridget Jones and New In Town, I think she should take on more roles out side her comfort zone and show her range.

    actually looks kinda cool.
  • For some reason it kind of reminded me of The Frightners
looks pretty cool none the less
  • it was most likely the bulging door scenes.
  • I did think that, after I thought of Robert Wise's The Haunting.
  • DRMB1990
I was kind of thinking The Reaping for some reason...
  • I dislike Renée Zellweger.
    I dislike horror movies.

    but this looks... good.
  • This look alright I guess. Just another "Horror" movie to rent when it comes out on DVD.
  • Based on the comments so far. This movie is going to suck. No need to beat around the bush about it.
  • stb247
Yeah, let's face it: It's not gonna be another Ring.

    They try hard, though...
  • Yeah, because The Ring is such a high watermark for horror.
  • DRMB1990
If I'm not mistaken, I think there was some sarcasm in the way you worded that, lol. Maybe Evil Dead or Rosemary's Baby. Those are the ones that people look back on and many more but The Ring?.....EH....good, BUT, not that good.
  • I can say with confidence that this looks really generic and terrible and I won't be seeing it.
  • Lorky
Looks like a fun, freaky film.

Haters, you're welcome to return to HSM 3.
  • I would have been looking forward to it if the trailer teased a little more as apposed to revealing the whole plot. What is up with that lately?
  • i think this - it doesn't matter how good or bad a movie is anymore. All that matters is how it does on the opening weekend. People on Monday will discuss how good the movie did - and people will either choose to make it a point to see something on weekend two if it did well ("it was the number one movie last week") or opt to wait for video ("no one really went to see it, I can wait")

unfortunately, our society looks at how a movie does rather than what it is. And if a movie fails to bring people in the first weekend it suffers greatly. Short answer - it is all about marketing to people to come to the theater, even if you show them everything. Let them think there will be more laughs or scares than the trailer, doesn't matter once you have their $10 on friday or saturday...

Why does EVERY horror film now have to include digitally "demon-morphing" someone's face? It was startling and cool the first few films that used it, but since there have now been entire movies where the whole plot was jusr people with demon-morphing faces, it's getting really old. Kids are posting demon face videos on youtube. Enough already. Hire a makeup artist and do something original and creative..

I have no idea why they wouldn't release that, it looks better than most horror schlock, very Ring-ish, and horror movies make money.
  • wtf to it suddenly going from a high budget lifetime thriller to paranormal ghost japanese wannabe horror. either way it looks like it'll be a fun genre thriller.

Seeing the trailer I immediately figured this was concept crossover with 'Orphan'. Still, looks like it'll deliver some ews and yucks.
  • Looks good! And I must admit it kinda looks like "Orphan".. You're right Gen.
  • So she's a female Ed Furlong if you will
  • Alan Geiss
Ohhh, so this is the Silent Hill sequel they were talkig about.
