Yesterday we told you that Robert Rodriguez had announced that he was officially developing a Predator reboot for 20th Century Fox titled Predators. Well, apparently the project is almost ready to go because Fox has already announced a July 7th 2010 release date, according to ERC. Also, apparently the filmmaker will NOT be writing or directing the movie. He will be producing the project, which he hopes will shoot at his Austin-based studio.

The film will play 5 days after M Night Shyamalan’s Avatar live-action big screen adaptation The Last Airbender hits theaters. The Steve Carell/Jason Segel comedy Despicable Me is due to hit theaters 2 days later. Predators is expected to follow a team of commandos who must face a mysterious race of vicious monsters. That’s right, multiple Predators… not just one.

Rodriguez has said that he will go into production in the action movie Machete, based on the mock trailer in Grindhouse, in June, co-directing with Ethan Maniquis. Next up, After that, Rodriguez is scheduled to have the sci-fi action film Nerverackers in theaters for a April 15th 2010 release date. As I said above, Rodriguez will not be directing Predators, but he is still expected to be very hands on with the project and I’m not sure where he is going to find time.

  • Great news!
Maybe Sin City 2 is next!?
    Please?

All i want is for director Paul W S Anderson and the Strausse brothers to watch the new Predator movie once it arrives in Theatres,if it turns out good maybe those 3 directors can learn something about directing a Predator film lol lol.I would love those directors to see how much they *ucked up.

I only want a fresh movie with all the bells and whistles(ingredients)the first two movies had.Teenagers in a Predator film makes the movie look like a slasher pic.Predators in Antarctica? Get real Anderson!I say somebody like John Mctiernan for Predator and Ridley Scott or James Cameron for an Alien movie. However i do have faith in Rodriguez and co to bring us fans a great movie that WILL NOT SUCK.Laurence Fishburne in the movie sounds terrrific too.

he is not going to have time to do all these. That is making 3 movies that would come out within half a year.
  • Dr_Gonzo
Here we are again bro... Just you and me. Same kind of moon same kind of jungle. Real number 10 remember... Whole platoon, 32 men chopped into meat... We walk out just you and me, nobody else. Right on top huh? Not a scratch... Not a fuckin' scratch. You know who ever got you. They'll come back again. And when he does I'm gonna cut your name right into him... I'M GONNA CUT YOUR NAME RIGHT INTO HIM!

Predator does not need a reboot...
  • well that is crap....if they're going to be doing this movie they better move back the damn release date so a real effort can be made into this film on all levels...script, directing, acting and vfx, etc

I hate it when they rush these things so they can make a quick buck
  • Rodriguez is only producing predators, they are looking for a writer and director right now.
  • That makes matters even worse.

Just recently with Dragonball: Evolution they got Stephen Chow as "producer" and then hired James Wong as director and whipped out a product that's amazing because of its dreadful overall quality. It was also rushed.

Same Fox strategy. Instead of producing quality films they like thinking short term and deliver shoddy films that have no other purpose but to make a quick buck.
  • I wish Aids for anyone involved and responsible for this.

does anyone else think this reeks of Fox being desperate? think about it: theyv been at the bottom of the money pile (out of the main 8 or so big companies that run Hollywood) something like 3 years running, the Watchmen fiasco, making dumbass decisions (dragonball evolution! did anyone seriously think that WOULD'NT suck?), the list goes on.

and now we have this: the decision to go back to a classic film (i would say franchise but come on, the 2nd predator film is terrible) and reboot/sequel it to see if they can jump back on that money train before they do something so stupid it bankrupts them.

plus Rodriguez is not gunna have time to really put anything worthwhile into this if hes got 2 other films to make in the same time. and hes only producing this film so that means Fox will hire a hack director to fuck it up, probably Uwe Boll or Brett Ratner or the guy who fucked Alien vs Predator! (how could u NOT make an awesome movie with these creatures/characters?)
  • Fox has been in the shitter for a while now. It looks like they're trying to burn every possible bridge they can.
  • Awesome! Another franchise Fox will shit on!
  • They already did with AVP. At this point Fox wants to get any ass they can get into a seat, even if it's just a one weekend turn out.
  • I hope its good, Predator films need to be good after those awful AVP movies.
How could they take the concept of Aliens and Predators fighting each other and make it complete shit with a sequel? Even the comics were good, some good games, but shit movies yeah the Predator & Alien name have been soiled hope its good.
  • angel angelov
this shit start from predator 2.remember that in the predator ship on the trophy wall there was an alien skull!so this concept have history!

  • Who knows it could be good, but i doubt it.
  • Robert Rodriguez marches to his drummer. He has integrity, artistic vision and has dealt with difficult personlaities like the Weinsteins. So I doubt Predators will "Rothmanized"... which is the best thing for the project.
  • filmkid
well for Dragonball: Evolution Stephen Chow did not really help on the process for the movie cause FOX was not listening to his ideas his only a producer by name but nothing else. Stephen Chow refuse to promote Dragonball: Evolution in Asia at all its been confirmed on a Asia article.
  • matt
I hope it's a semi-sequel. I can't be bothered going through the motions of watching the good guys do the whole "omg, what was that?! is it an alien?" etc I'd like to go with the idea of the army knowing about the existance of predators and sending in some crack commando team designed to fight Preadators.
  • Luc
Schwarzie is an old man now...leave him be...what was the name of the guy in "the marine"?john cena?
    Top guy for this movie!
  • I'm really hoping they do the Predator some justice and make a really badass movie...I mean as much as the 'AVP' movies suck, the Predator characters are always awesome to watch in the theater....
  • He's not directing now? Big mistake! They must not care about the fans.
  • I think that if Rodriguez were directing, we wouldn't get the reboot for another half decade. He's already way to committed to other projects to direct this one right now.
  • Mchops
Very true. I didn't think of that. But why attach his name if he's only producing? Fox move for money?
  • Most likely. Either they want to bring in more fans by having a producer with a big name, or they actually want some quality to their films this time around. Fox films that have a fan base usually lack in quality.
  • It sounds like Rodriguez is going to be really busy. Kinda makes me wish he were this motivated a few years ago. At least we would have had Sin City 2 sometime soon. As for the reboot of Predator, yeah I guess this is good news since the last effort was terrible. I just hope all these projects get done in a timely fashion.
  • I never thought I'd see the day when Robert Rodriguez would move into producing films in the reboot territory. I gotta say I feel a little disappointed.
  • _spinster_
Why, wat about the Alien vs. Predator 3, i've been waiting for that
  • lol
  • Weyland_Yutani
Hope to shoot in Austin? If true, this film already has fail written all over it. I like my Predators in a jungle... forest... mountain. Predators on a green-screen set or in an Austin BBQ joint just don't cut it. I'd even buy-in if they were in the snow. At least then, we could be assured of an interesting action film.

Good in comics or not, a Predator story on film worked in the original for a reason. Rodriguez would be wise to carefully study why that film worked. CG Arnold is not an option.
  • I truly give my best of wishes to Rodriguez.

I hope he can fight off the onslaught of silly Rothman limitations, restrictions, and impositions that he thinks might "lighten" the mood of "Predators" (he'll probably request to make the Predators a baby blue and pink color combination to make it "family" friendly; like he did on the set of Origins against Hoods consent).

    Best of luck Rob.
  • AWBwood
what did rothman request as changed about wolverine to make it family friendly?
  • He repainted some of the sets on Wolverine to a "lighter" tone without Gavin Hoods consent. Rothman thought they were to dark so he took the decision to change the colors a bit.

I find that incredibly intrusive and unnecessary. Especially if it impedes the directors vision.
  • angel angelov
    ok that's good.but what about AVP 3?
