In January, it was rumored that 20th Century Fox was developing a Predator reboot titled Predators with Robert Rodriguez and Troublemaker Studios in the producers chair. Rodriguez confirmed the rumors at a news conference today at Troublemarker Studios for the long-awaited reform of the Texas film incentive program.

IESB reports that Rodriguez gave a list of the many projects he has in development which he hopes to shoot in the state:

“I’m going to be able to shoot my upcoming Machete here, a sci-fi action film called Nervewrackers, a re-boot of the Predator series called Predators, and a couple of smaller movies called Sin City 2 and The Jetsons.”

Nervewrackers has an announced April 15th 2010 release date, and is likely to go into production next. Warner Bros is still hoping to have The Jetsons ready for 2012. Who knows when Rodriguez will find time to helm a Predators reboot.

The film is expected to follow a team of commandos who must face a mysterious race of vicious monsters. That’s right, multiple Predators… not just one. Rodriguez is at his best when it comes to the intergration of special effects into a story, and Predators might be a good arena for the filmmaker to play in. Lets just hope that Fox has hired someone good to write the script.

    This sounds great! *snicker*
  • david
What happened to the Red Sonja movie he was making?
  • he was only producing...I think the bigger question is what happened to Barbarella? since it wasn't even mentioned...
  • ----
The same thing that will happen to half of these movies - vanish.
  • starscream9289
    The Jetsons.....really?
  • my bet is it'll look like jetsons mixed with spy kids.
  • Lono
I am working on the script for the reboot of this reboot as we speak. Look for it in 2018. I'm also re-rebooting Halloween and Batman.

Who needs new material when there so many boots to re and then re- re-?
  • This is actually a good thing for Predator since it has gotten so off track. I personally liked Predator 2 but the Alien vs Predator stuff was done poorly.
  • Infrafan
It can't be a franchise if you keep rebooting the freakin' thing. Take a note from what they did with the Bond franchise. It doesn't make any sense anyway when you have one that lends itself to being readily available to add another installment of your own and not have to call it a reboot. All these horror franchises are perfect examples. Each one has had it's ups and downs, but they just keep adding to it.

Rebootingremaking is to movies in theaters what "unrated" is to home video. Say it and it draws 'em out.
  • So... is Machete still happening?
  • yup it might be his next quick shoot before Nerveracker...since it's all set to go and it's going to be a small action film...I'm guessing like a month to film then he'll jump into Nerveracker and edit them both at the same time...I'm not really sure if Machete is actually heading to theaters or it's going to be heading directly to DVD....I guess when it's finished he'll find a distributor
  • JPDyno
reboot? Mneh, Predator doesnt really need a reboot. If you dont consider the AvP movies canon, then this will just be another 'encounter' with predators on earth.

they better be bloody good marines to take on multiple predators... I watched predator recently and those guys were the pinnicle of awesome. "Bunch of slack-jawed faggots around here. This stuff will make you a god damned sexual Tyrannosaurus, just like me. "
  • I doubt it's really a re-boot ...I think he meant like another sequel without the Alien franchise attached... his script for Aliens Vs Predator involved Dutch and Danny Glover's character being taken to the Predator homeworld to battle other trophy species for the entertainment of the elders...which sounded bad-ass but would have been way too expensive at the time it was written... I can assume it won't just be set on Earth expect a stop off to the Predator homeworld...since the title gives that the impression
  • musicsoup
so this news has kinda blown my mind. the jetsons!! that's insane. he is kinda perfect for that film, but i hope it doesn't look as green screen as spy kids or shark boy.

as far as predator goes. the original doesn't need a reboot at all. just a new story with big balls and lots of violence. i know robert is good with violent balls, so i have faith there.

sin city 2 couldn't come soon enough.

don't really care about machete. and i'd be interested to know what nervewreckers is about.
  • wakka wakka wakka
i got somethin' fer yer sore ass. *cocks shotgun*

please help stop this before they ruin it. like everything but batman.
  • The_Kid
I'm excited for it but I'm a Rodriguez fan, so my vision is blurred.
  • "predators" haha!
  • Jeff
Wats da matta Dylan? CIA got you pooshin too many pencils?
  • MCA
dis is bullsheeet, all off eeet. Amazing.
  • dutch
so you cooked up a story and dropped the six of us in a tumble drier!
  • freemachine
If this were Michael Bay saying this I'd be afraid...cause he'd actually do it. But this is just more wind from Rodriguez, who talks about all these ideas yet never manages to get them off the ground. Just look at what happened to the Sin City sequels.
  • oh shit! This is a Fox movie????????????? we're fucked!
  • Both the predator movies (and the AvP movies (?)) have been done by Fox. Makes sense.
  • filmkid
can someone tell Hollywood not every movie back in the days needs a freaking REBOOT

Predator needs a sequel no REBOOT
  • id rather a reboot then a remake
  • filmkid
    i rather a sequel then a reboot

i understand for some movie we need a reboot but this might turn bad FOX might force a P-13 Predator Reboot movie just cause to have new younger audience.
  • great announce!!!
  • The reboots are coming daily now. 20 bucks on Alf for tomorrow.
  • Goobity
Robert Rodriguez is the best 'up-coming project' announcer of our times.
How many things is this guy developing? I can think of at least five...

Sin City 2, Barbarella, Red Sonja, Machete, Shorts...the list goes on.

I dig his work, but come on man!
  • The_Kid
Actually Shorts is basically done, so now he's working on all these other projects, don't Forget MADMAN, Some of these movies he's not directing, just producing. I think he's producing Red Sonja and Barbarella. But Sin City 2, Machete, and Nerveracker.
  • The_Kid
    cont.
But Sin City 2, Machete, and Nerveracker are the films he is going to direct.
  • Louie Wax
how about we just boot new ideas and stop re-booting old ones

i do love robert tho, much power to him.
  • The Dilation
OR instead of hoping they hired some good writers for the script, we can stop with all these bullshit reboots, re imaginings, retooling, retarded, what ever you want to call them and actually work on some new fresh ideas instead of scrambling to find source material to work from. Where are all the new ideas?!?!
  • RUN! GO! Get to the Choppah!
  • I assume this will be followed by Predator ^ 3.
  • evanz
I wish I could get paid for brilliant writing like this. Not one predator, but many...I would have never of come up with that on my own.
  • AWBwood
Agree with all those above who are sick of reboots.

They always fuck them up anyway (except Batman, of course) , which means we'll undoubtedly be getting even MORE shitty reboots in ten years time....

Enough! PREDATOR is a god damn classic - Rodriguez won't even come close to its sheer brilliance, so why bother?
  • Machete could be good for a few laughs. However, I am much more interested in the prospects of things such as Sin City 2. Haven't heard anything about Nervewrackers.

Jetsons sounds good in theory but I have my doubts. With tons of studio pressure, it will probably be aimed the 7-12 year old age group and leave us fans of the original series in the dust.

Calling another predator movie a reboot at this point is hilarious. Oh how I love marketing for the masses.
  • NandosFan
"If it bleeds we can kill it"
  • RODRIGUEZ_FAN
I love Robert Rodriguez. Just sayin'.
  • F the Jetsons and F nervewhatevers. WE WANT PREDATOR!!!!
  • I'd rather see him focus all his energy on one project at a time, and really aim for the best he can do. Feels like he might be spreading himself too thin and thus might spew forward some barely average work. Hope I'm wrong, but I can't see how spreading one self too thin produces reliable work.
  • wmwm
    Who will be Rodriguezs 'Arnold'?
  • I don't normally respond to comment sections, but this is fucking bullshit.
  • lux
a reboot? but why?? predator 1 and 2 were good.. just make predator 3 you fucker!
  • Rodriquez shouldn't waste his time with this project. He'll be forced to adhere to a subpar script most likely (Fox doesn't hire good scriptwriters anymore, who needs a coherent story right?).

It would only be a waste of valuable time he can spend on other projects with other studios who are more open to good ideas.
  • lux
Ohhh nooo you´re right.. it´s a Fox movie.. we´re fucked indeed...
  • Lux
    God.. I hate Fox..
  • RPK
This is just more sad news from Hollywood. Destroying all my childhood classics. Can't fucking wait for the Nightmare on Elm Street Reboot.

    Let's see. Hollywood has destroyed...

    Superman
    Get Smart
    The Honeymooners
    Brady Bunch
    Texas Chainsaw
    Friday the 13
    Halloween
Aliens & Predator (they've already skull fucked both of them, why not do it again!!!)
Nightmare on Elm Street (its in production)

Trying to think of what's left.

    Maybe 'The Fly' ?
  • Justin Craig
Of course they're going to make Jetsons for little kids! Why would a grown man want to see an adaptation of a Hannah Barbara cartoon? Get laid bro. Just don't forget to pull the Jetsons sheets off your bed first.
