Mark Mylod to Direct Anna Faris in What’s Your Number
Posted on Thursday, April 23rd, 2009 by Brendon Connelly

One of the scripts on the 2008 Black List was Twenty Times a Lady, adapted by Jennifer Crittenden and Gabrielle Allan from the novel by Karyn Bosnak. The basic premise is something of a tall tale, but it sounds like enough fun: a young woman wakes up one morning in the bed of her nasty boss and finds that she’s just hit her own personal ‘limit’ - he makes the 20th man she’s slept with. She refuses to break this limit so, in order to find ‘the one’ she finds herself trapped with only former contestants, as it were, being able to play for the prize.
The script is now set to be filmed, retitled What’s Your Number?, and set to team actress Anna Faris and director Mark Mylod. Very nice. I couldn’t be happier about this pairing because I’ve been counting both as real favorites for years now.
Faris you know, I’m sure, from the Scary Movie series and latterly Observe and Report, The House Bunny, Smiley Face and so on. She was particularly good in Lucky McKee’s May, in a supporting role, but I’d account that she’s always worth the ticket price just by herself.
Director Mark Mylod’s work on British TV was absolutely brilliant stuff, setting the stylistic paradigm for The Royle Family, one of the most important and influential sitcoms of all time; nailing the perfect tone for Reeves and Mortimer in sketch, game show and comedy-drama formats; and launching Shameless with what were effortlessly the best episodes in its entire history. I was a definite fan of this should-be-legendary streak.
Then he made the Ali G movie, which is far better than its reputation but still somewhat wobbly and headed off to the US. Since arriving he’s made one more picture, The Big White, which suffered massively from its hugely derivative script, and directed episodes of The Unites States of Tara, which I loved, and Entourage, which I wanted to love.
I’m very glad to see him taking on a movie again, particularly with Faris on board and a Black List worthy screenplay.
Incidentally, Faris can soon be seen in FAQ About Time Travel, directed by Gareth Carrivick - another of Brit TV’s hard working comedy directors. Perhaps she’s working her way towards Edgar Wright, step by step.

Interesting premise, Faris is great and Mylod clearly has talent, but the Ali G movie was ABYSMAL.

Anna Faris reminds me of Goldie Hawn or Shelley Long. She is underrated as a comic actress, so this new film might give her a chance to really shine.

What is stopping you from loving Entourage? Anna was in a few of those episodes he directed. I agree with you that she is worth the ticket price alone. In my opinion, the funniest female working right now.

I don't get the Faris love. I like her but all of you seem to be hailing her as a god? What should I be watching in oreder to "get it".

I'm quickly becoming a fan of Faris, and her willingness to play over the top quirky, even slutty roles is going to give life to a lot of would be throw away characters. Her timing and use of her face were made for comedy, and yet, she's still attractive enough to play "the hot chick". I'll definitely check this out. i wonder if they're going to cast all 20 of her ex-partners. By partners, i mean people she FUCKED.

My favorite Faris role so far has to be in Just Friends. Loved her in that!

I'm kind of surprised to read that this screenplay was on "the Black List". The book was cute, but nothing THAT great.
The writer was the Karyn of the Save Karyn website from a few years back, the girl who set up a website asking for money to pay off her credit card debt. She was on the Today Show often about it. It was quite popular. She wrote a book about that, and then this was her first novel.
I don't know what the screenplay was like, but I was surprised to see it on that list. It is a typical rom/com, something that Kate Hudson would star in. A film about the "Save Karyn" site would have been more interesting.
I will be interested in seeing it though.

Anna Faris looks like Brittany Snow in that pic.

That's alright and all, but I'm still trying to get over how HOT she looks in that photo.

I love Kate Hudson and think she is a fantastic actress but Anna Faris has the ability to turn what would be a typical rom/com and make it not so typical, i.e., lots better.

Start with May and Observe and Report.

Was she? Cool. Then that will encourage me to give it another go.

Observe and Report is something I'm going to wait for a DVD. My movie bucks are limited and I must save them for the summer blockbusters that must be watched on a big screen. I'll rent this May you speak of though. Thanks for the tips.

I love Ana faris - she is so hot. Glad she dumped her loser boyfriend.
23rd April, 7:39pm
She have a boyfriend?

I'll see anything Anna Farris is in. She's talented and gorgeous, I hope she advances in strides over the course of her career.

I don't get the love for Faris. I don't anything in her. She just comes off as desperate to me. Anyone who gets botox before they're fifty loses any respect I had for that person.
Can anyone actually name a film she made that was any good?

no, no, no go for Smiley Face!!! I think one of the best stoner movies EVER! and just a funny as hell movie all together.
