wolverine trailer

20th Century Fox has released a new internet-only trailer for X-Men Origins: Wolverine on Apple (click on the “exclusive clip”). The film finally hits theaters next week. I’m not quite sure the point of the new edit, as it doesn’t seem to offer much that wasn’t shown in previous trailers/television spots. It’s very possible that the trailer was an alternative cut of the previous trailer, and that Fox decided to release it online to further combat the piracy of the leaked workprint.

Speaking of which, when the movie showed up online, Fox head Tom Rothman told Entertainment Weekly that “the version that went out” was “about 10 minutes shorter, doesn’t have key scenes, it wasn’t edited, and none of the effects shots were in any remotely final form.” The Huffington Post noticed that both the leaked “unfinished” workprint and the final cut have the same running time of 107 minutes. How could this be? Did Rothman lie? Or does the theatrical cut actually feature ten minutes of “key scenes” not in the early cut?

Movieline ’s sources claim that “cuts had been made to the leaked workprint before the additional footage was added, which resulted in a similar running time.” I’m sure we’ll find out exactly how much different the theatrical cut is early next week.

    First?

The sheer insightful nature of your entry astounds me to no end.

the more people become annoyed with firsters the more i think it's funny
  • Do you remember when you were a child and every time the teacher would ask the students to line up at the door to go outside? And every time there were kids that had to be first in line? Well, that's exactly how this is, people wasting alot of time trying desperately to be first. It's rather childish if you ask me. It's not really people being annoyed, it more or less people knowing not to act in a certain way.

I was always last so I could get the lights.
  • That was always a good place to be during the line up. Do you remember when the class got too loud and the teacher would turn the lights off to quiet everyone down? Or nap time? Nap time was the best.

I work here in Hollywood, and while I have not seen the leaked cut, a lot of people are talking about the fact that these two cuts are in fact the same and that nothing is really different. They were trying to save face and keep people from seeking it out. I do feel bad for Hugh Jackman, he seems to be a good guy. I will check it out when it hits the theater next week, that is where these kind of movies should be seen.
  • I also plan to check it out. I refused to download the leaked cut, so I haven't seen it and I'm not worried. Fanboys who saw the leaked cut have NO right to complain if they went ahead and see the movie next week, only to have seen the very same version.

ditto on Hugh Jackman, he worked his ass off for this.
  • Kelt
Yeah, I have noticed that barely any of Fox's "bockbuster" movies go above 110 minutes, unlike Paramount or WB which are willing to go with lengths up to 150 minutes
  • im hoping the cuts were for the better
  • You are right C-rex. Rothman is a liar.

    20th Century Fox ...meh

    Fox Searchlight... yaya!
  • freemachine
Oooooh, a whole 10 minutes of key scenes and polished effects? No thanks. Fox really should learn the art of damage control.
  • Ok. I know this movie is being lashed at from every which direction. I haven't seen it yet. I refuse to see an unfinished version of it simply because I absolutely love comic book movies and I am hoping this will be no different (Though... Last Stand and Spiderman 3 killed a bit of me). I really am looking forward to seeing this on opening day. And this clip showed a TON of Liev Schreiber. I don't care what movie it is... the more Liev Schreiber, the better. The man is a great actor. I hope he can make a difference in this movie.

I just wanna see Wolverine decapitate people and kill helicopters with his bare claws.
  • Stay far away from this film because none of that happens.
  • /ambient
I hope this gets a "complementary" box-office win. I'm totally uninterested in the film anyways, but I'd hate to hear Fox whining about how the illegal upload ruined their opening weekend results. That's just sad.

    Two things killed my interest:
    1) Agent shoots Wolverine in the face and he's still alive
    2) Wolverine flies on top of a helicopter

    Fail
  • Bill
You do realize that Wolverine has healing powers right? He was burned alive and was able to regenerate himself.
  • freemachine
Ahahahaha! Healing powers. From a bullet in the face?---yes. From a roundhouse kick to the head by Chuck Norris?---no. There are comic books, and then a little thing I like to call "reality".
  • Smash
    He has adamantium bones, genius.
  • There will be Blood
Oh? Did he have these healing powers in X2? Because I clearly remember him getting shot in the head by police officer and he was down for a few minutes.
  • Joe
"He has something nerdy that most people going to the theater who don't have a good knowledge of comic books will be confused greatly about"
  • YeahBabyYEAH
The sheer bla Bla BLa . . . LOUD NOISES!
  • Palmer
I'm not going to see it in any case. I mean sure, I'm not really a fan of this movie but I'll probably rent it when it eventually comes out on DVD but I'd rather save my cash for something like The Limits of Control or even the Star Trek movie.
  • freemachine
Rent it? But if you only rent it you'll never get to watch the special features. :o You'll have to buy the DVD if you...errr...ummm...(strike that). o.0
  • Palmer
Blah, I'd imagine special features for this movie would just be...blah. Probably something about trying to be faithful to the various characters origins and what not...yeah right. Are Fox even big on special features for DVDs?!
  • freemachine
Now that I think of it, the workprint is probably the closest thing to a "behind the scenes" special feature as you can get.
  • Andyrooskie
See, that's why I watched the leaked version. I still plan on seeing it in theaters. The studio's got my money regardless. But seeing them both is the idea. I love LOVE seeing unfinished versions of films, and comparing them with the final version- it's a phenomenal way of observing how a particular film is put together, whether you're interesting in the directing, cinematography, editing, VFX, etc. It's fascinating.

Obviously it's better if you can procure a workprint though LEGAL means, but the point still stands...
  • You're a smart person, save your money for the new Star Trek film that looks alot better than this. If Star Trek's as good as everyone says it is, go ahead and watch it again.
  • I love how this "Exclusive Clip!" is just the same trailer from before.

Shame. The only way this movie could be viewable a second time would be if they cut the entire ending out.
  • Have to agree with you. I'm thinking a cliff hanger ending right when Wolverine finds out about all the manipulation he's suffered would make this film better.
  • Even though lots of people are hating on this movie I'm still gonna pay and see it cause, Wolverine is the best superhero next to Batman and Hugh Jackman makes for a great Wolverine...
  • The theatrical cut won't be any longer. Its 107 minutes.

Fox has a history with these "profitably secure running times" to ensure a set amount of earnings (squeezing in as many screenings as possible).

Oh and taking anything Rothman says to heart can only lead to disappointment. The man has a long record of "stretching the truth" and is responsible for bringing the once respected studio (20th Century Fox) to its current pariah status.
  • Bert
I've seen the leaked version and just today saw the final theatrical version. I can honestly say they are EXACTLY the same except for unifinished CGI.

It's not a great film and that's all there is to it.
  • where is Wolverine being screened at? i smell bullshit.
  • Albert Brodsky
I like Hugh Jackman. He is the first to play my favorite comic character, and he's done a respectable job, but I've never been on board with Fox's choices for this series.
When they announced the Wolverine movie, I was disappointed.
The previews look cluttered with characters and the more I see, the less I'm wanting to watch.
I hope this movie fails. I hope it fails badly.
It won't, but I'd love for it to, just so in ten years we can get a better writer and director to take this in the right direction.
Also, I want to see the yellow suit and a stocky actor. I love his mask, and refuse to believe it can't be done.
  • Ruy Gordner
Same shit, I´ve watched both. Rothman, a professional lier!
  • I just want to see it in a big screen. I saw it already and I enjoyed every second of it (except of what they did to Deadpoll)
  • twstdbydsn
I've got a bad feeling about this.
  • dlb
This is just Rothman trying to cover his ass and trick people into thinking otherwise. They did the same thing with that 90 page treatment of X-Men 3 leaked. It revealed that Cyclops, Gean Grey, and Professor X as well as Rogue and Magneto being "cured". I think Simon Kinenburg(sp?) or Zack Penn came out and stated that it was nothing more than just a "test piece" to get the film going and that the end product was vastly different. This was not the case

I don't see the reason for Rothman to do something so unnecessary. Most of the people I know who have downloaded it have said that the film was great and worlds better than X3 (even with missing VFX shots). Fox will never get it.

    Dragonball anyone?
  • dlb
i somehow left out "die" after cyclops, gene* grey, etc.
  • McGoohan
Frankly the movie will in all likelihood be superior in the unfinished form. The finished effects were laughable, and the only enjoyable part of the entire Wolverine experience was the hilarious and informative unfinished effects shots. It gets almost artistic at times; drawn on claw extension, anyone?
  • so....the workprint wasn't as unfinished? all the bad buzz i'm hearing about the plot is the actual plot? oh geez. Wolverine is gonna TANK.
  • Brian
Has anyone noticed that in 2 instances with the Wolverine film, there are 2 different tracks from Tyler Bates' score for the film 300? First one being in one of the scenes in the Wolverine film and another playing all through this new trailer. Mind you the trailer version is slowed down and slightly modified, but it's the same piece. What's the cause for this? I mean 300 was done by WB and Wolverine is FOX.
  • Mayroth
I hope they cut out Cyclop's part. The idea of having him in this is just stupid. This is Wolverine. Not Cyclops. Hate it.
  • They were probably trying to show how they could spin off an x-men first class movie. Either that or they were trying to redeem the character by killing him off last time. Either way, I agree that he shouldn't be in the film but has to be for the eventual fight scene at the end. Oh yeah that ending sucks if you ask me.
  • I think it's safe to say that the Wolverine work print is the exact copy that's going to be released in a few days. It's sad because this movie's already got bad word of mouthed stacked against it that if it makes any sort of income, it's off of sheer luck.
