Angels & Demons

Ron Howard’s big screen adaptation of the Da Vinci Code prequel Angel’s & Demons won’t hit theaters until May 15th, but Columbia Pictures is already moving forward with a third film in the series.

Now you might be asking yourself: “How can there be a third film when a third book has yet to be released?” Good question. Well author Dan Brown has announced that the next installment of the Da Vinci Code series of books. Titled The Lost Symbol, the new novel will be published in the U.S. and Canada by Doubleday on September 15th 2009 with a first printing of  5 million copies. That number is about half of an average Harry Potter book, which is to say - a lot.

Not much information is known about the story, although it has been widely speculated to be about Freemasons in Washington, D.C. Brown, who is clearly obsessed with the Freemasons, has been spotted over the years in Washington, researching Masonic temples.

If the footage screened at ShoWest is any indication, Angels & Demons has the potential to be a bigger hit both critically and financially than the first film. And if that comes to pass, I have no doubt that both Tom Hanks and Ron Howard will return for the third film.

That's great to finally hear of a date for Brown's third book!

    It's Langdon's third book, Brown's 5th? I believe.

Yeah. I was one of the few who liked the DVC movie, however, I preferred A&D as a book. Hope the movie is good and that The Lost SYmbol is just as good.

Freemasons in Washington, D.C.? There's an original idea that screams to be made. In fact I'd say a movie like that would be a national treasure.
  • Yeah.... but to be completely fair. Brown has been working on this book for like six years, before National Treasure was even a thought in a screenwriter's head. But yeah, they beat him to it.
  • gah
Didnt that Brad Metzler novel have the exact same plot too? They're all the same. I hate grocery store literature.
  • National Treasure came out five years ago.

i like that hanks & howard have stuck with this series. i didn't mind the da vinci code, but it would've been easy for them to walk away after the 1st got so much flack.
  • kdrodawg
    which it so deserved
  • Deception Point would be a great movie. THat's probably Dan Brown's best. Which doesn't really say much....
  • Doesn't say anything. It's the same rehashed plot, with different characters. Entertaining to read, but it's really just a matter of guessing which of the first 5 characters you meet is the bad guy.
  • "Digital Fortress" and "Deception Point" are both really good, fast paced reads and "Angels and Demons" is a better book than "Da Vinci Code". I am really excited about the movie.

    It's not "angel's" it's "angels".

    Just thought you should know.
  • I'll be curious as to your reaction in fifty years when "Lolspeak" has been accepted as our first universal language...

Finally, it's been a long time i am craving for more Dan Brown novel and now, this is it, all i need to do is wait and as soon as possible, file for a reservation at all bookstores here in the Philippines to be sure that I will get a copy of it. haha.
  • The book will also deal Mormons and their connection to Masonry. Should be very interesting. He spent quite a bit of time in Salt Lake studying Mormon history and the Salt Lake Temple. Very rich in masonic information.

Hey! I know what The Lost Symbol is! ----------> $
  • The Lost Symbol will be about Kryptos, the code statue at the CIA headquarters.

From what I understand, there was a crucial symbol left out for aesthetic purposes by the artist, which when revealed changed the meaning of the code. There are 4 parts to it, and three have been solved. I'm going to guess this is about the fourth part.
  • I guess it's nice that they have faith the 2nd movie will do well enough to guarantee a third film.

I just finished reading "The Lost Symbol" and thought it was an excellent read. I can't wait for the movie!!!
  • Leogirl
Yes, the book is wonderful so far. My husband is a Mason and tends to get upset when I talk about the symbols and secrets. He tells me that he doesn't want to hear another word about the book. Jeez! (lol)

I just finished reading "The Lost Symbol." It's a very exciting read that should turn into a fantastic movie.

I'm looking forward to seeing Tom Hanks resume the role of Professor Langdon.
  • Leogirl
I doubt it if they will use anyone else to play Robert Langdon. Tom is so perfect for this role. It's funny because from DaVinci Code to The Lost Symbol, I always picture Tom Hanks' face as I'm reading. ;o)

I think Linda Hunt should be in the movie as the tiny asian woman - can't remember what her name was (secret service, I think?)
  • Leogirl
I am currently reading ," The Lost Symbol". I was so excited to read it because my husband is a Mason. He does get upset when I ask him questions about symbols or information that I'm reading in the book. He tells me that I am not to ask him anything else concerning Masons. Jeez! lol

Howard hinted today at the Austin Film Festival that he will be doing The Lost Symbol, but we shouldn't expect it anytime soon.

Dan Brown is one of my favorite authors. I saw the Da Vinci Code first and enjoyed it which lead me to read the book which I also enjoyed. I then went on to read Angels and Demons which has became a favorite book of mine now and was excited when I heard it was coming to the screens. I wont lie but when I saw it I did find myself whispering to my mum thats not how it goes it the book but I can say that at the end of the film I had enjoyed it just as much as the book. I think Dan Brown is an incredibly talented writer and cannot wait for the next book of his. :) X
