Concept Art: Style Frames From The Road

Who knows if and when we’ll ever finally get to see the movie adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s The Road (IMDB currently lists an October 2009 release date), but to hold you over until then, check out the Stlye Frames that Production designer Chris Kennedy created for the film which were posted on Flickr by Hugh Marchant.

For those of you who don’t know, Style Frames are kinda like rough concept art for movies. They are meant to evoke a feeling, tone or look, rather than being referenced for particular moments in a film. Head on over to Flickr to see them all.

  • This is going to be a great movie. I love No Country for Old Men, which was based on Cormac McCarthy's book. The frames are so beautiful, by the way.

Must they tease us! It's a great book and hopefully it will be a great movie...if we ever see it.
  • Yeah I'm really hoping we get to see this movie sometime this year. The book's great and I hope the movie will be too. The wait is agonizing.

    Give us this film!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can some one help me who has read the book?

I am about 100 pages in, and I'm not intrigued. Do I keep going, or am I not going to like it at all?
  • Brad
I loved the book, but if you are 100 pages in and you don't like it I would say stop reading. The Road isn't plot driven AT ALL and if you are waiting for something to happen, well you'll probably be disappointed. The whole book just goes on like the first 100 pages. Not much happens. They find some food, they eat it. Someone is coming and they hide. When things DO happen it is very creepy and visceral, but mostly it is just a poetic and exquisitely worded tale of a father and son walking and walking and walking through a post-apocalyptic wasteland. There are many things I loved about this book but if they haven't grabbed you by 100 pages in, I'd say it's a pretty safe bet that it is not the book for you.

Keep reading. Perhaps, as a whole you will understand what McCarthy was doing. Hate it afterward, but at least you will have read the book. It's a pretty short novel.
  • I hope the studio isn't holding the movie back because they have doubts about it. It was one of my most anticipated films for last fall.

im thinking the same thing. Anytime a studio holds something back i get nervous. The book is just too good to have a poor film attached to it. Let's just hope it's because they haven't found a decent release date.
  • I just finished reading the book and this all looks fantastic. The cinematography will be as important as the characters in this film, and, from the look of this concept art, I don't think that I will be disappointed.

i'm not sure what's holding you back, as i was instantly taken into this dark world that was created. i'd say start over because ever single sentence written is pretty flawless. the stuff they encounter is pretty fucked up, so definately push through & finish.
  • I concur. I loved it from the get go so I don't know that I can recommend you keep reading it if you're a hundred pages in and not interested.
  • God I hate the Weinsteins and their stupid company.

If only Tarkovskij was around to direct this one ...

    Hi.
About this great novel, please see the link.
    Regards.
  • I read the book a few months a go and really liked it. Some of the concept art looks like what I imagined. I really hope this movie comes out this year.

Hi, I have been asked by the studio to remove the slideshow of my work from my flickr account and I was legally required to do so.

I can only ask if you would please do the same – sorry.
