Steven Spielberg and Michael Bay

Michael Bay screened Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen for Steven Spielberg today on the Sony Lot, and according to Bay, Steven loved it.

“Steven Spielberg sat next to me in a big 100 person theater at Sony today,” wrote Bay on his online forum. “There were 98 empty seats. The lights came up after we just watched my cut of Revenge of the Fallen. He turned to me and said ‘It’s awesome’ He felt this movie was better then the first - and probably my best, who knows - at this point in a movie you start to lose your objectivity. I just hope the fans like it.”

Of course, this is all according to the guy who made the movie. Bay went on to say that they just got done cutting a new trailer for the film, which will be attached to X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which hits theaters on May 1st. So if you needed a reason to see Wolverine on the big screen, you might now have one.

  • ah true buddies :D

In Bay's wet dream, did Spielberg finish him off with a handjob?
  • daniel
bet speilberg doesnt think Twittering is a waste of time
  • hmmmmm... really? what has Spielberg churned out recently... Indy 4? can we trust his word... this is Spielberg were talking about though and half the shit he likes is good if not very good.
  • To make justice, Indy 4 was not entirely Spielberg's fault. There was a LOT of George Lucas in there.
  • And The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Man, people just love to forget that shitty movie he made too.
  • Blame Koepp. Forget the fridge and the gophers, most of what was wrong was the screenplay.
  • Indian Jones 4 and the Kingdom of the Alien Space Skull had George Lucas's prints all over it.

Spielberg has made Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, Forrest Gump, ET, Close Encounters of a Third Kind, Munich, and more.

Learn something about a director before you bash him with your assumptions.
  • Obviously his most important contribution is Jurassic Park.
  • It's funny how you left out AI and War of The Worlds.
  • Smash
Neither of those are bad movies - they're just not great ones.
  • Forrest Gump was Robert Zimekis.
  • True, I feel ashamed because I just watched it a few hours before that comment. Damn my fanboy-ism of Spielberg.
  • Dude he knows it Indy 4 sucks.
  • Indy 4 wasn't really a Spielberg movie; George Lucas had most of the creative control on that project.
  • Mike
anyone else think that photo is a little creepy?
  • Sues
I know what you mean. The way Spielberg's head is tilted ever so slightly...
  • Cheese
Every time i see Spielberg i think of south park and the storm trooper.
  • Do you think of Man Bear Pig every time you see Michael Bay?
  • It'd be nice if it were true.

It's funny, Bay's best film is still generally regarded to be The Rock, his first one. Perhaps he was just really hungry and motivated back then?
  • Well, as long as we can all agree that Pearl Harbor was his worst.
  • I'm thinking The Island was pretty terrible too. Maybe it's a tie between the two for worst Bay films.

of course Spielberg liked it. old Spielberg, that is. Young Spielberg would've spit on it
  • kiwis
i think spielberg has always liked these big movies. didn't he really like independence day?
  • no, young Speilberg wouldn't have spat on it. He did, after all create the Indiana Jones franchise (I do like Indy Jones movies, though) and he started out making blockbuster movies.
  • Saying that it's Michael Bay's best film isn't really setting the bar all that high. But if it's robots to Shia Ladouche ratio is higher than the first one I'll be happy.
  • "awesome" eh?
  • Ben
They sat next to each other? That must have been a little uncomfortable in an empty cinema.

    And LOL at that picture.
  • "Michael, perhaps you've never heard of a buffer, but..."
  • Haha I was just thinking that...100 seat theater and they chose to sit next to each other, wtf...and that pic really reminds me of 'Step Brothers'...
  • Gorb
The first movie was garbage. Anybody who tells you different is a brain dead idiot or ten years old.
  • i just like to think that people nowadays go to the theater to stop thinking and let their eyes do the work. so in that regards, it wasn't that bad, don't worry though i'm on your side.
  • that's exactly what tweens did with the Hannah Montana movie.
  • Thorloth
The first movie wasn't garbage, it was really fun. I could criticize it like everyone else but overall most people I know really enjoyed it, and I can't think of anyone in my circle of friends that is a vegetable or ten years old either...
  • I think it's pretty good, considering it's:

    a) Based on a Saturday morning cartoon show.
    b) The cartoon show was based on a Japanese Action Toy Line.
    c) The plot was never believable, no matter how you look at it.
    d) Did you really expect something like an Oscar from a film called "Transformers"?

Basically, let the kids have fun.
  • I'm typically not a movie snob. If a movie is entertaining, but not oscar worthy, I'll go ahead and like it. I was not entertained by Transformers. It had its moments, I actually didn't mind "Shia Ledouch" and thought he was pretty funny. But for me to enjoy a 'bad' movie it has to have a lot of qualities Transformers lacked. E.g. Coherency.

What is this site "Being Michael Bay"?

"Michael Bay, Michael Bay, Michael Bay, Michael Bay, Michael Bay, Michael Bay, Michael Bay, Michael Bay..." said Michael Bay
  • Michael Bay is actually a pretty catchy name if you think about it. But don't think about it too long.
  • Conrad
hah! Funny, James. Yeah seriously, is the whole movie industry centered around Michael Bay? Can we have non-Michael Bay news please?
  • Jeff W.
I love spielberg but he also said that Episode I was "Awesome".
  • UH-OH, there seems to be a traitor in our midst! I predict the hate for Bay will now be minimized.

I say he is a breathe of fresh air. Bring it.
  • what a funny picture. You know this is pasted to Bay's fridge.
  • I would've assumed by now that he made a mousepad and a T-shirt with that image for himself.
  • It's most likely in a picture frame right next to his bed.
  • Bay has totally rubbed one out while gazing at this picture. You just know it.
  • MoonDog
Actually, that was his second feature. BAD BOYS was his first.
