What we know so far: Office scribes Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky are writing a screenplay for Ghostbusters 3, which will bring most of the original cast members back in a mentor capacity, and introduce a whole new generation of Ghostbusters. Harold Ramis insists that “everybody” from the film’s original cast will return, but some, like Sigourney Weaver are still hesitant about returning.  Dan Aykroyd teases a few new details in a chat with MTV :

“There will be a whole new generation that has to be trained, and that whole new generation will be led by an individual who you’ll all love when you meet him but I’m not going to tell you anything yet,” teased Aykroyd. “They’ll be lots of cadets, boys and girls, who’ll be learning how to use the psychotron, the accelerators and all the new stuff, the neuron splitter, which is going to be the interplaner, interceptor and all these great tools that they’re going to have, to flip from dimension to dimension.”

It sounds like the Ghostbusters won’t just be passing the torch over to a new team, but possibly training a larger group? I might be reading too much into what Aykroyd said, specifically the phrase “lots of cadets”. But it definitely doesn’t seem like there is just one or two new members, but instead an large group.

  • Is he talking about the video game or the movie? Re-read the interview, I can't make out which one because he keeps dropping back and fourth between the two separate entities.
  • Last week Dan Aykroyd spoke to CHUD briefly and gave his two cents about 'Ghostbusters 3' and the upcoming Ghostbusters video game.

Apparently he believes the video game is the third movie but also acts as a lead in to the third movie… He also mentioned the dimension to dimension stuff and neuron splitters etc…in reference to the game.

I think the only thing we can learn from all of this is that without a finished script, and until the video game is released, we won't really know what will happen in the movie!

Sounds like a Police Academy / Ghostbusters mashup. This will be gold.
  • Jack Spade
Rumor has it David Chappelle will be in it.
I wonder if that's what Dan Aykroyd hinted about when he said "....and that whole new generation will be led by an individual who you’ll all love when you meet him but I’m not going to tell you anything yet."
  • I just jizzed in my pants.
  • Beast
    where'd you hear that?

Whoever they get to be the new young "bill murray" type character better be good. It better not be Seth Rogen, or anyone who was in freaks and geeks, for that matter.
Fresh Faces. Is that so hard? But anyways they better get somebody good.

why not have Oscar the new leader of the new generation of Ghostbusters. do you guys remember baby Oscar who was in Ghostbuster 2 well it makes sense for him to take over cause he would be grown up and he can follow his step dad foot step of been a Ghostbuster.

"Ghostbusting makes me? feel so good!"
  • Dannymanners
...this is starting to sound bad ....Dear god dont let Ashton Kutcher be in it
  • Jimmy Mac
It almost sounds like the original pitch for Ghostbusters.
  • "Lots of cadets, boys and girls" - for some reason the image of the little padawans from Episode 3 came to mind. Which wasn't very good.
  • Not good for the padawans that's for sure. Perhaps Raymond plans on mowing down the cadets with an accelerator?
  • Ghost Brothers 2000
  • ck.
    hahahaha
  • I wish The Atlantic Paranormal Society from the SciFi Channel's Ghost Hunters would learn how to use the psychotron already.
  • I wonder if the original theme song by Ray Parker Jr. will receive the remake-cover-modernizing treatment --- wait a minute, of course it will, and it wil suck. I can already hear the Black Eyed Peas butchering the "who you gonna call" line.
  • Who Ha
The best way to do this is to just USE the original song by Parker Jr. Why mess with something so genius & already ingrained in pop culture?
  • Why mess with something genius and pop cultured? Because this is Hollywood, and they always do that...!
Mark my words, this is going to involve either one of these music acts:
    - The Black Eyed Peas
    - Green Day (this could actually work)
    - Some weird ensemble like the Alicia Keys - Jack White duo for Quantum of Solace
  • Yes, that is worrysome, but let's not forget that Ghostbusters 2 hade some rather bad songs as well.
  • Flax
RUN DMC was awesome. Plus, Bowling for Soup covers GB's and it does suck.
  • Ludo does this song live, and they do it well. I'm betting on them doing it for the movie.
  • ck.
yeah this idea is sounding worse and worse each time new info is released
  • I agree, I'm shocked that most people here seem to think it's a good idea. This is going to be horrible.
  • JAYLO
    You sound worse and worse
  • I was thinking about that too. As long as it's not completely overdone and crapped on, I think i'd be ok with it. But, we'll have to see on that one.
  • GrammarNazi
I doubt there will be an large group...
  • Peter R
To bad Rick Moranis still says hes retired and sticking to country music...i loved his character.
  • Learn Google better. Moranis is in for the movie.
  • I don't care what the idea or set up is, I just care that it is well executed. And I think it will be.

I wonder who is going to get the director's chair on this one, though?
  • Infrafan
I think that makes sense. Like any business franchise, it has to branch out into places. New York can't be the only place with ghosts. If this is the direction, I'm hoping for a better sequel than two.

But, I can't help but be reminded of the episode of The Critic titled "L.A. Jay" where Jay is hired to write a unnecessary sequel to a franchise not unlike Ghostbusters to be sure called Ghostchasers, and has a thrilling speech at the end that is as relevant today as it was when it aired, if not more so.

Here's Part 1. You'll be connected to the other two parts:

Sorry. I forgot that speech I was talking about was in the episode "Eyes on the Prize". A must hear speech. MUST HEAR!

  • Considering his involvement in Year One and his apparent memorization of the first Ghostbusters film, Michael Cera is my guess for the leader of the cadets, the one Aykroyd is saying we're going to love. Right?
  • Solid
Isn't Shia Labarf the new franchise killer? Don't bring Cera down to his level, people. It's not fair to his actual talent.
  • JAYLOAD
This is a dream come true. As bad as this may end up being, I'm still going to love every minute of it.
  • Vajayjay
Everyone. Please. Quit talking about Oscar. He's gone. Let him go. Ugh
  • TheRealPuffycombs
    Say what holmes?
  • TheRealPuffycombs
    ....You're starting to sound bad...
  • Palmer
Cadets, maybe something like try outs?
  • Flipping dimensions? What the fuck?
  • Across
Can't anyone tell he's describing a kids film?
  • garrr
So basicly there going to hire shitty actors like zac efron and nic cannon
  • I highly doubt they would hire those two for this franchise unless they really don't like loyalty to fans or money. I trust that whoever is in charge right now for this film will do an excellent job.
  • Paul Rudd and Bill Hader are musts.
  • This is great news. I'm glad this is getting made. From what it sounds like, maybe there's going to be alot of Ghostbusters, possibly like a precinct or something which is good. It would be nice to see Sigourney Weaver back with the original cast but the writers could fix that little bump in the road.

In the Ghostbusters Video Game intro cutscene, Venkman mentions "franchises coming soom". Perhaps Dan Ackroyd and Harold Ramis were working in a little foreshadowing into the game?
  • well written script of Ghostbusters 3 which is compose of cadget.
