Lars Von Trier’s Antichrist Movie Trailer

antichrist

AICN has discovered the trailer for Lars Von Trier’s Anticrist, a horrific drama that tells the story of a grieving couple who retreat to a cabin in the woods, hoping to repair their broken hearts and troubled marriage. But nature takes its course and things go from bad to worse. In the initial press release, Von Trier said that the film would offer “a glimpse into the dark world of my imagination: into the nature of my fears, into the nature of Antichrist.” The trailer is certainly creepy and unsettling. Watch it after the jump and leave your thoughts in the comments below.

This is by far the most misogynist movie I've ever seen. I don't say that lightly, I actually can't think of a single one that comes close. This man truly believes women are different by nature than men, and that that nature is devoid of logic and reason, powerful, sexual, deceiptful and the epitomy of evil - the Antichrist. A child dies in an accident - except as it turns out, it was the mother's fault for being sexual instead of nurturing. Show her for the sadistic hysterical monster she is, taken out of civilization and off her pills for a few days. Snip off her clitoris and burn her at the stake. Then crawl home with what's left of your balls, pick some berries and reflect on the nurturing side of nature. Definitely an interesting depiction of a misogynist's world view, very well made and a great psychological horror movie.

You really need to pick up a dictionary and learn how to speak proper english. You basically over-dramatized this movie and did not truly understand. Very few will. It is VERY intentiionally hypnotic and strong on triggers. I can guarantee you that. With a title like "Anti-Christ", you should be able to understand why.

So I thought this movie was pretty intriguing for the most part. It was thought provoking, symbolic in many ways, intelligent, and intense at times. The only real bones I have to pick with this movie is that it is pretty slow paced, I couldnt really decide if this was European or American influenced, if it mattered, and if Defoe was the right choice for the part being that this is something I couldn't really envision him in. Sometimes it felt as if this was a movie that was trying to be "artsy" in some form, it felt forced, something was lacking...but it was worth watching and analyzing.

what was this movie actually about? I thought it was "somewhat" interesting but I was very disappointed. It was mostly just strange to me. What are your thoughts?

shitty movie from crappy director. and as usual , masses are overly fucked up to distinguish what's art and what's crap..is Trier European equivalent of U.S. garbage called Tarantino ??

    Fuck Art Let's Kill

Another scary movie from hollywood - the title is deceiving since it has nothing to do with the actual events of the Antichrist (based on in the trailer).

This movie played with my mind, could not stop watching at any time.

You know what? I have been married to a Norwegian (they are kind of like the Dutch you know), and this story reminded me of him somehow, this depressive people, getting away from the real world, this thing in the woods, by the trees, people kind of crazy, it is creepy. And my Norwegian husband is a misogynist for sure! von Trier is very strange but I love Dafoe and Gainsbourg is getting better!
Good choice of actors Trier! I would love to see it!

Hallo! I have seen the movie and i liked it very much. but i have to say that this is not for the faint-hearted people. It`s a very strong movie. I must say there were one or two scenes that shocked me a bit.

let's go to the cabin in the woods, try and get our marriage back in shape, then let's have sex by this gnarly looking tree with hands coming out of it, so that i can get you pregnant with the antichrist. or at least, that's what i'm guessing happens.

hells yes, this movie looks gnarly.
  • Lars Von Trier + Willem Dafoe = <3
  • Wow. I didn't exactly expect to find a trailer (esp. so soon) for Von Trier's latest awesomefest! (Thanks Zentropa, AICN, /Film)
  • I love the look of this and it seems like it might be an entertaining psychological horror.

I'm into Lars von Trier just as much as the next person, but that trailer definitely didn't give me the vibe of a Trier movie. But trailers do that sometimes, and I'm going to see this film regardless. Looking forward to it.

    OUAW....
  • Some shots seem video-y. You know what i mean by video-y???
  • I agree, it looks as though it was shot on HD. This trailer is a perfect example of where I think FILM would have worked a lot better visually, some of these shots look quite cheap, even though they are composed and light beautifully, it's still in the nature of HD (in my opinion) to have a slightly cheap feel to it.

You notice this quite a lot when something is moving at a fast pace, the motion blur looks slightly 'off'. I know it's to do with the difference in format, but I don't like the way it looks at all.

Lars von Trier is one of the founders of the Dogme95 movement, and one of their main rules is to utilize hand held digital cameras. I respect him greatly for sticking by this, and in my opinion it gives his films a very specific feeling. Obviously however, this is not a true Dogme95 film, but you can see the similarities and influences it has had upon his later work.
  • Okay, I feel slightly stupid for not picking up on that. Regardless, I think this movie may have benefited from a more traditional approach. Having said that, I'm only judging a freaking trailer and I'll be more than happy to see this in theaters.
